Regardless of whether you like the song or Avenged Sevenfold in general you can't deny that Synyster Gates is one of the most insane guitarists on the planet.

I was watching one of their videos a while back, I forget which song him and M. Shadows was going reviewing the different aspects/recording of the song, but he said regarding the solo, that it was literally pieced together like 3 seconds at a time because he couldn't play it. So he just pieced it together. I lost a Lil respect for his ability when he said that.

all their albums have something different. STST was pure metalcore, Waking the Fallen implemented melodies and a lot more of clean singning, City of Evil was straight up prog rock, Self Titled was like a continuation of the style developed in CoT with heavier elements and a lot more wacky, Nightmare always seemed kinda thrashy, so lets go with thrash metal, HttK was a classic heavy metal album and The Stage was a prog metal masterpiece. Here, they seem to be experimenting a lot, so it's safe to assume it'll be a continuation of the themes explored in the last cycle (both musically and lyrically, as they said on an Instagram post that the central theme will be Existentialism)

@Jj just because it doesn't have crazy synth or piano solos doesn't mean it isn't prog. The riffs are crazy complex, songs are 6+ minutes that don't follow "verse/chorus/verse/chorus", it's all there

I think people are forgetting that The Stage exists as a record. Shadows' vocals on that record are very much in the tone that we know for the man. But after the illness that he suffered from while on the world tour for The Stage, his voice hasn't been, and never will be the same. Regardless though, I think this song is amazing and weird, and I can't wait for the record this summer!

As someone who likes experimental music and prog metal, I really enjoyed the direction A7X is going with this album. Their old stuff is great, but I like that they are not getting stagnant with their sound like many other bands do. This is a very artistic direction they have gone with the soundscape and kind of dredges on leaning into existentialist thought like they stated the album was influenced by. I'm looking forward to the rest of the album.

You don't have to go 180 in music direction to not be stale. It's fine if they do whatever they like, but I keep hearing these arguments and it's just not fitting. I know bands who stay true to the sub-genre of metal they've been known for, only to change it to their own style that no other band can copy and even then be new and refreshing with new influences. Some bands even excel so much that they re-define or create a new sub-genre by being themselves. Changing style per se is not a sign of "freshness".

It took multiple replayings to fully understand the complexity, and it has quickly become one of my absolute favorite A7X tracks. The white album still holds a special place in my heart as its the album that initially got me hooked, although I had become a fan during City of Evil. As a huge avenged sevenfold fan, this song imo: I was waiting for the single to be the way to call people's attention to the next album, and I thought that they were going to release a heavy ass song (remembering the good ol days), instead the single was totally different from what I had in mind, i caught me off guard and during the live stream showing the song I got disappointed. Now a day later and after listening again to the song multiple times I really enjoyed it, it has deep The Stage vibes which I don't mind because I personally love The Stage, and when I was worried about the heaviness of the songs I just calmed down and though "bro, the album must have at least 8 songs, of course it has heavy songs". Right now the only thing that is left to do is wait for the album and hope for the best, at least is was finally announced

Enjoyed the new song. It's different, weird at times, but good overall. M. Shadows' voice will never be the same, but it's understandable after years of screaming. We liked how it fused so many elements of A7X over the years together. Excited for the new album!

@@heavenbent4pleather83 I agree that his voice is fine and still good, but it's certainly not better than it's ever been. The tone in his singing seems to have taken a hit (understandable considering all the stuff he's went through) so it doesn't sound as bright, less power, and cuts a little less, but it still sounds good overall and fits well. Rarely do vocalists sound better with age past a certain point (middle aged)...You got a select few like say Devin Townsend, but it's certainly not the norm. Add in health complications and improper usage in previous years and vocal ability loss is almost bound to happen. One thing I will say is that his vocal control overall sounded very tight and that's a great sign!

Lots of people have been commenting about Matts voice but I really dig it, I really think it fits the new proggy type thing they're going for. It sounds higher, which I really dig. He was already in my top 3 favourite vocalists ever, but honestly, he still is. As a prog metal maniac, i'm really eating this up lol. Great song, Matt still has it, and fantastic solo.

Guitar 101: the song *is* in drop D it just uses a very specific chord in the chorus called the reverse power chord, for example with standard tuning if a regular power chord is 3-5-5, then a reverse power chord is 3-3-5. So for drop tuning a regular power chord is 5-5-5 and the reverse power chord is 5-3-5.

i like the song, but it has the variation of hail to the king lol, also, the fact that you had to slow the solo down that much to even slightly understand what is going in is a show that synyster is truely one of the best guitarists of our time Edit: it definitely sounds like a combo of hail to the kings riff oriented songs and the uniqueness of the stage, super excited to see what they do with that

Avenged has changed a lot to say the least. This song is absolutely amazing and I love how they keep their experimental vibe, like the stage. Like some dystopian theme-like music. I love how that background wail/bend type sound stays in time with the beat and what not. Overall it’s a great song!
