Thanks for everyone’s concern about my new axolotl! For everyone asking if I cycled the tank, yes of course I did. When I finally put him in, it was a couple days after I filmed setting everything up. Also when cleaning his tank I used vinegar after, but with how much stuff was stuck on and in the tank, dawn soap was a must. Hope I cleared everyone’s concerns!

A tip when getting axolotls: Before you put them straight into the tank it's good for you to have them in a plastic bag with the water they came in and you hold the bag in the water for about 20 minutes so he or she can get used to the water temperature. (By plastic bags I mean a clear one like the ones you get when buying the animal).

Few pointers, Axolotls require a 20 gallon long (30''x12''x12'') minimum. You will need to upgrade that tank once it grows a little bit, or save yourself the hassle and go ahead and upgrade it now. The tank cycle takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks or more of dosing pure ammonia to build beneficial bacteria (not a one-day thing); that tank is not safe for the axolotl yet. You can tub the axolotl and do daily 100% water changes with dechlorinator (Seachem Prime like you had) in a shoebox or larger size food safe container (add a hide and an airstone for oxygen). I own axolotls and this is a little bit frustrating to see with the rising popularity of axolotls in the pet trade. Please, please do research before you get an exotic like this. They are a lot of work and are very, very sensitive.

Just wanted to touch on some things for anyone watching this and considering getting an axolotl 👋😊 No hate at all to the video creator, no one starts off knowing absolutely everything! But please do *alot* of research before buying one of these adorable creatures, for their benefit! 💖 You need to fully complete a fishless cycle prior to adding an axolotl to the tank - I can see she did end up pinning a comment saying she cycled it for a few days before adding the axolotl to the tank but a full cycle usually takes an average of 4-8 weeks and can even take multiple months to be fully completed. Anything that states it "instantly cycles" a tank shouldn't be used or trusted, your tank needs time to go through the whole nitrogen cycle and you can't rush this. I also don't know the size of the tank but a 20g long or 29g regular tank is the *minimum* current standard to house a single axolotl - for every extra axolotl you add another 10g minimum to that number, and you also need to ensure that they are of the same size, gender, that there are multiple hides/caves, that they are well fed etc. A filter with a low flow (to not stress out the axolotl like she states is best) but you also need to ensure your filter is rated for at least double your tank size, axolotls have a high bioload and your filter needs to be able to combat this. Decor wise any axolotl under 5-6 inches shouldn't have any substrate (known as a barebottom tank) due to an impaction risk, after that size they can be put on aquarium safe sand as long as it is very fine, tiles, stay barebottom etc. (Do not use gravel/pebbles etc. The axolotl will try to eat them, possibly get impacted and potentially die) You should provide multiple hides for your axolotl, you need to ensure there are no sharp edges or places your axolotl can get stuck. If using fake plants ensure they are silk/not sharp and couldn't possibly cut the axolotl. They don't like light, they should be kept away from windows or any major/constant light sources - this will also help keep the tanks temperature down. Axolotls require a tank temperature of 60-64*F or 16-18*C, this can be achieved with an aquarium chiller, fan etc., there are other non-permanent methods to cool your tank like using frozen water bottles/icecubes (as long as they are made with conditioned water) and so on, but these may not be enough depending on the climate where you live. Axolotls are carnivorous, they thrive best on a diet of night crawler worms or earth worms, and you can add variety by also giving axolotl safe pellets etc. There is also a large commitment here, axolotls can live for a long time, 20+ years depending - can you commit to all of its needs (and financially) take care of it for its whole life? Although you don't have to walk them like a dog, you do need to feed them, conduct water changes, complete a full tank cycle, test your tanks water, take them to the vet or tub and treat them as needed etc. There are alot of things to consider before committing to being the sole carer of a live animal. Everyone else has already touched on it, but don't use chemicals or soaps not meant for an aquarium. I can't fit everything into one comment obviously, but here are some very basic things you should know/consider prior to getting an axolotl! Again zero negativity towards the creator ♡ They did touch on some good points and maybe just left some other bits out by accident but for anyone considering getting one of these adorable amphibians please ensure you do extensive research prior and that you can provide everything they need for a long, happy and healthy life! ☺💖 ~ @PetalPocky 🌸

Ok so you didn't cycle, you ised dish soap to wash the stuff, the plants are too poky and they will cut the axie. The tunnel is way to small! They could get stuck! Please in the future do more research before getting one. The tanks also too small for a long living axie. I care a lot aboukt these animals. Im sure he was fine but cycling a tank can take weeks you can add ammonia to speed it up some and they normally require atlead a 20gal breeder tank. I also didnt know how to cycle a tank for an axolotl when i first got mine its a common mistake it takes time qnd patience. I would qlso highly recomend getting a water test kit to be sure it was properly cycled you should always test for nitrate nitrite and amonia also just general hardness hope this helps! I recommend api master test kit qnd test it weekly.

Hi, this video popped up as a recommended and I'm glad it did, because I am an axolotl breeder and there are so many things wrong with this video. I understand it's your first time owning one, but then you should make sure you do your research first and not show people improper ways to care for them. Yes there were true points throughout the video, but for everyone watching please make sure you actually do research, and not base it off what you saw. Axolotls are very picky and difficult if you're doing everything right. Again I am a breeder so I do actually know. Do not just get an axolotl because you saw it on minecraft, make sure you are actually ready to care for a pet. Congrats on the new pet, but if you want it to do well and survive, just make sure there is some more research done.

First off when setting up a new tank there is many steps you have to do to make sure all of the chemical levels are stable. I see that you just set up the tank and put the axolotl in and that’s fine just for future reference let the tank run for a week or more before putting anything in it. One last thing the substrate you put in the tank is meant for salt water so it could also have an affects on the axolotl. Over all good job and have fun watching them grow! (Ps) I am not just some person criticizing tanks I own 4 of these and I am just trying to help people out.

Cycling usually takes over a month to complete. Uncycled tanks will lead to illness, fungus, and ammonia burns in axolotls, and could potentially result in death especially with how small this guy is.

You never never never clean anything for the aquarium with soap of any type. No way to get all of the residue off…. Plus you have to rinse sand multiple times. And axolotl has to be at least 6 inches long before sand can be used

Hey i breed these adorable creatures and id like to give some advice. Please tub the axolotl with 100% daily water changes you didnt cycle the tank properly if you just whipped that filter straight out of the box and started running it. You cant do a fish in cycle with axolotls because they are sensitive animals :(

Axolotls at least need a 20 gallon tank you should get a new one now before it grows and don't touch them a lot they are very sensitive. The tank needs to be cycled correctly it take a few weeks. I can't tell about the plants but they should be soft if you are using fake ones, I would use real ones personally. You were right about a few things but I hope your axolotl does well congratulations on your new pet I hope u listen to the comments :)

Hey there! Almost everything she said or did in this video was entirely wrong. As a warning just from watching this video, do not listen to anything she has to say about aquariums or axolotls. One axolotl needs a minimum tank size of 29 US gallons, and while 10 gallons added for each additional axolotl is acceptable, I would seriously recommend 60 US gallons for two if not larger. I have one axolotl in a 29 gallon tank and I want to move it to a 60 gallon if that tells you anything about their species. Never get axolotls from pet stores, as they are often inbred, mistreated, malnourished, or ill. Pet stores simply don't know how to care for their animals and don't care enough about them to learn as a general rule. Buy only from knowledgeable breeders that can tell you the axolotl's heritage 3-5 generations back. Axolotls require water temperatures under 68 F, and temps above 75 F are deadly. The water must be kept in pristine conditions at all times. What is safe/good for axolotls: -Large river rocks, no substrate, slate, tile, or fine sand substrate. fine sand substrate can only be given once the axolotl is over 5 inches long. -Worms and sinking carnivore pellets are a great diet for them -Live plants -Hiding spots -Air bubblers -Efficient filters that have a low flow or a flow that can be dispersed -SeaChem Prime Water Conditioner What is unsafe/bad for axolotls: -Warm temperatures -Gravel or rocks smaller than the axolotl's head -Uncycled tanks -Sharp or chemical-y decor -Copper -Iodine -Soap of any kind -Aloe -Almost all 'slime coat' related products -Almost all water conditioners other than SeaChem Prime -Tankmates other than other axolotls or nano shrimp -Salt baths (despite it being recommended on certain places as a fungus treatment, salt can damage their gills and burn their skin) -Keeping male and female axolotls together -Keeping axolotls of different sizes together Axolotls are very delicate creatures that require very knowledgeable care. 29 US gallon axolotl tanks need weekly 25% water changes, which need to be done for the axolotl's survival. The more axolotls you have, the more frequent maintenance needs to be. If you have any specific questions, I am happy to answer them.

Hana please look at aquarium info before putting your axolotl into the new waters and space and also real plans like live plants are better for your tank like the ones that can stay submerged in water for a long time and also never give the axolotl sand if it’s not full grown Sand for a baby or young axolotl is not good for adult axolotl’s it is good

The fact you didn’t cycle the tank for a week or two it could take months to cycle the tank right bro aswell at the pokey plants you put into the tank that could rip or damage their skin and if you live in a warm invirenment you have to buy a chiller because axolotls like cold water if it’s more then like 68 fahrenheit and you didn’t even buy a cycler. If you don’t know about axolotls or don’t do research don’t get one. You don’t even have a test water kit. It could severely make your axolotls life misarable and if it’s too warm in the tank he could morph and it could make him pass away quicker. Please do research before you buy a pet and don’t implisively buy animals you know nothing about.

she didnt let any beneficial bacteria build up nor let cycle in general. trust me what shes doing is very dangerous and can cause many tanks to completely perish, let alone one infant axolotl. I understand that she may be a beginner but maybe dont go with something so odd to take care of as an axolotl just because u thought they were cute. it wont be cute when its laying on the bottom of the tank flipped on its back.

Just a few suggestions: 1. When the axolotl grows up (probably grown up by now), get him a larger tank please. 2. Ensure that the temperature of the water stays low, as they are adapted to live in cold temperatures.

Yes 20 gallon long tank at bare minimum for a single adult axolotl, as big as you can go if you really want to do right by them. Or if you have a lot of them. Esepcially be sure the tank is longer than it is tall, they spend most of their time t the bottoms of tanks than they do swimming around. Plus larger tanks can be decorted more interestingly and with live plants like java ferns and other axolotl-safe/suitable plants which will help reduce some of the mess axie's make. ie. Plants will feed on the messy poos and amonia from the axolotl.
