He so big by comparison because Fiona's birth was considerably premature. Fritz's development is probably par for the course in a normal hippo birth, at least as far as hippos in captivity go.

Seems hippos should give up living in the water. They can't float and they must come up for air quite often. Nature is super weird but cute.

They can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes. They even sleep under water and instinctively bob up for air without waking up. Fritz is still so little that he has to take air breaks more often than his mom Bibi but he'll get there.
