In this video, we review the new 440 v2 from New Balance Numeric and also compare it to the previous 440 v1, whose details we loved
This shoe will be available online at midnight on 2/2/24 and in stores on February 2 at southsideskatehop.com and at the Southside Skatepark at 510 Iowa St. South Houston, TX 77587
Information from New Balance Numeric -
This shoe did not exist before being in Numeric -- though it looks like it could have. When we first talked about the project, we looked into classic 70s running silhouettes and vintage court styles from NB. The goal was to create a timeless upper that feels like it’s been a part of NB for years without actually having a history at all.
- V2 (version 2) will be the only version in the market starting Feb 2024. We may revisit V1 in the future.
- It’s built on a modified last that is a few MM’s wider in the midfoot and slightly rounder at the toe down. The fit and heel lock have been improved as well.
- wide sizes are new to Numeric! It’s a consideration the brand offers for most of its popular models, so we thought it was time for Numeric. We are introducing 440v2 in wide as well as 272 and 574.
- The shoe has been out since 2018 and has found itself on a lot of skater’s feet all over the globe. Mostly we wanted to focus on team feedback and what we saw as production issues with the shoe. Our goal was to create something that is noticeably better underfoot and increased durability over the life of the shoe. We have added a lot of new models to the range, 480 and 600 specifically, that might take the spotlight off the 440, and wanted to bring some attention back to this team favorite.
- It does take about 18 months from the initial concept all the way to the shelf at the shop. Ryan Lay was one of the first people to get a pair to test. He was skating the v1 a lot at the time and said this, “It is absolutely criminal to have us skate the v2, feel all these improvements, and then have to skate the v1 for a whole year.” I know a lot of the team guys are eager to skate these publicly and excited to see all the clips!
