"Daydreaming" is my No.1 MAID's track......Apart from it being totally wonderful, it holds a special place in my heart because the MV came out 3 days after I lost my partner to cancer (2017)....So the track hit me hard....Kanami played a beautiful guitar opening to it at the Yokohama Arena. ..Been lucky enough to have seen the MAID's LIVE..... TWICE...Both in Japan.....The opening concert of the 10th Anni Tour. (Tokyo Garden Theater)...and the last concert of the 10th Anni Tour (Yokohama Arena). The MAID's have been the light in my darkness since losing my partner..And so I flew out to Japan from the UK to see them...Long May They Reign!👑

A native speaker gave me the pronunciation tip of the century: Japanese vowels have only one ☝🏽 sound, just like Spanish. As a Spanish learner, this jumpstarted my Japanese. Ah-Eh-Eeh-Oh-Ooh (A E I O U) That means Rinne would have to be “Ree-neh” 🤣 8:11 that look MUST be one of your next thumbnails! Great choice and great reaction 🎉 You picked two diametrically opposed Band Maid offerings. Same instrumentation, same musicians, completely different universe of sound. Not many artists can do this. Heads up for those next reactions! “Influencer” is a weird song; Saiki raps!

Also, EVERY vowel is pronounced. So, for example, "kawaii" is kah-wah-ee-ee" (NOT "ka-why" as so many Americans say it). So, they are always pronounced the same and they are always pronounced when they appear. They may be reduced, but they are there (for example "desu" often sounds like simply "des" to our English ears, but if you listen, there is definitely a bit of an "oo" sound after the "sss" when spoken, even if it is sub-vocalized. "Miku desu!"

this is why a feminine influence is good in metal/rock. The duality of the two songs in the video. You don't see many real high level rock bands going from a sweet song like daydreaming right into something sick like rinne at all these days.

Hey Ross, after Endless Story came out some fans thought that they were going more commercial, as it is a little slower and softer than most of their repertoire. If you can locate it, the live performance of YOLO from the 2018 Studio Coast Shinkiba performance has to be what I personally consider the BEST live version of YOLO. Especially listening to the left channel, you can hear how Miku had progressed as a guitarist in just 4.5 years. In Daydreaming, Kanami's solo sounds to me like a scream of longing. The song has a couple different interpretations. the one I prefer is a woman who is remembering an old relationship that while it was good in some places was also bad in others, and she is dreaming that maybe it could have worked. A second interpretation which I don't agree with, but some younger folk do, is the woman upon seeing an old lover from a toxic relationship had a brief fling and after they have left the room, is dreaming that they might have made the relationship work. Rinne is based upon an old Japanese horror/suspense film, about a serial killer who films his victims as they die to try to capture their soul leaving the body. Since in the film the kill used an 8mm film camera, the MV was recorded on 2 Super 8, 8 mm film cameras and a couple action cameras (Like a GoPro) The reason for the action cameras is that Kanami's fingers and Akane's feet as they played were too fast for the frame rate of the film cameras, (24 Frames Per Second), so they used the action cameras with a frame rate of over 100 frames per second (I have read that 120 fps was used). After it was edited, they overlaid a film frame filter to hide the fact that the digital camera was used.

If you could class Daydreaming as a rock ballad, then this is up there with the best. And the genius just knows what emotional strings to pull with her solo ... as with them all. One extreme to the next - Rinne ... well that speaks for itself - awesome.

With her solo in Daydreaming, Kanami runs over you like a freight train, doesn't she? And the buildup with Misa and Akane as well as Saiki with Miku from start to finish?... Not for nothing for quite a few people THE song that ranks a tad above all their others. Well, at least for me. 😏 Followed by the attack that goes by the name of 'Rinne', certainly an interesting combination. 😂 The song and Saiki's so charming 'It's sink or swim. Shut Up' at the end is supposedly a nice greeting to all those who said that they had taken a slightly too 'soft' direction with their music. :) And yes, not listening to Rinne in the car is probably a good decision, unless you've deliberately removed the brakes beforehand and want to drive into a wall at full speed. 😇 _____________________ _"Sometimes we laugh because we're sad or to hide our frustration"_ - from *Gacharic Spin* -「 I Wish I 」 🎶✨

RINNE or Reincarnation - I'd probably try something more like "Li-nn-ee" to try to get somewhere near the Japanese ballpark. The Japanese R is a single hit with the tongue - no trilling (well, you might, if you want to sound like a hoodlum), no throathy Rs, and in reality it is a kind of sound sort of equidistant between R, L and D. And the the double -nn- means a looong sound. The final e might be perhaps like the initial e in "exstacy" or "expressive".

Thank you for your reaction. I’m not sure but Rinne is a term in Shakugan No Shana, check sub version of first episode if you want to know how to pronounce it, and is refered to as an entity. Maybe it can mean both an entity and reincarnation as a process, I have to come back to check that.

K-Ross , Daydreaming was filmed in Taiwan in 2016 , I saw them twice both time they did Daydreaming Saiki`s voice was better then the video mesmerizing , Rinne was Filmed with 8mm film to look like an old Japanese horror movie of the same name , the lyrics Its sink or swim Shut Up at the end was Miku`s answer to people who were saying they were getting to poppy sounding , Miku`s a feisty Pigeon .
@zer0tzer011 ай бұрын
Rin Ne is correct. Japanese is broken down into 2 and 3 character syllables with no Silent Es. It's short for Reincarnation. I have no idea how they arrive at a consensus for pronunciations and abbreviations. That remains a mystery. Everyone gets emotional with their music, Even MISA. Miku & Saiki have said that she is the Pure Heart of BAND-MAID. She used to hide behind her bangs. Rinne was inspired by a Japanese Horror Movie of the same name. It used a lot of 8mm film in it, which is why it was shot on 8mm film in an abandoned house.
@TlanImass11 ай бұрын
Dang, I hope someone can explain "Rinne", the word. Because if I put the Romaji in a translation, there's nothing. But when I put the Kanji? 転生, its Romaji is "Tensei" and the English translation is Reincarnation. Maybe Rinne is just a shortened form of the word "Reincarnation"?
@armynurseboy11 ай бұрын
It is the Buddhist concept of life, death and rebirth (samsara). The song is about someone who is tired of the cycle and just wants out.
@tona251711 ай бұрын
The idea of reincarnation is originally an idea of Hinduism and Buddhism in India. Rinnetensei(輪廻転生) means that a person repeatedly lives and dies and is reborn into a new life. Rinne(輪廻) refers to the turning of the wheel, and Tensei (転生) refers to being reborn. Also, the words Rinne and Tensei alone are used to mean the same thing as Rinnetensei.
@tsunami-lightwave939511 ай бұрын
輪廻 (Rinne) is not technically "Reincarnation". It is a term from Buddhism for the concept of the cycle of death and rebirth. The English translation for the term is actually "Samsara", but almost nobody would know the meaning of that word in English. "Reincarnation" is close enough in common parlance, though "Reincarnation" tends to have the nuance of being reborn as something else as a one time thing, not an ongoing cycle.

Hello, I am a Discord "BM-CD" member Japanese. "輪廻Rin-ne" is a Buddhist term consisting of two Chinese characters. "輪rin" means wheel. "廻e" means to turn or to go around. Thus, "輪廻" refers to the way the wheel turns. When these two characters are combined, it is "rin-e," but since "rin" and "e" are hard to pronounce in succession, it is pronounced "(if written in phonetic symbols) rin-ne" by a euphonic change. The meaning of "輪廻Rin-ne" in English is reincarnation. This word is often said with the word "転生ten-sei※" in the four-letter idiom "輪廻転生rin-ne-ten-sei," but "輪廻rin-ne" and "転生ten-sei" alone can also be used to mean the same thing as ”輪廻転生." ※ "転生ten-sei" means that one life, which was mine/your's, continues to live after its death as someone else or as another life form, thus being reborn. Buddhism teaches that a person's reincarnation is related to the evil deeds he/she did in life, and accordingly, in the next reincarnation, he/she will be reborn in one of the six realms called the "六道riku-dou."
@toshimatyu665411 ай бұрын
Additional explanation from Japan BAND-MAID's Rinne is inspired by the famous horror movie Reincarnation. The story is about a scientist who believes in reincarnation, who murders his family to confirm reincarnation, and then the reincarnated people unknowingly visit the place of the murder. When we think of living things as things that carry life, we see that life has continued to live without dying since its birth.
