I have a pedal monster and two idash in my nd2. The Miata throttle mapping is excellent- the pedal monster is not a really needed , i have to run it at track setting 7 before I really notice. Makes rev matching a little easier. I have the two idash set up as shift lights as well, its extremely flexible, you can measure everything- and I mean everything. Just bring your check book. It’s first class. Support from Banks and FM is excellent.

Rambling story about throttle curves: I remember reading about when engineers were developing the Chrysler LH cars, they were frustrated because customers always reported that Hondas felt more powerful, even though on a dyno or in 0-60 they weren't. Eventually someone did some datalogging, and figured out that drivers in the real world never go full throttle. In this process, it was discovered that Hondas of the time had oversized throttle bodies, making forva more aggressive throttle response, and making the last 1/3rd of pedal travel becane redundant. The engineers then oversized the throttle on the V6, and without changine anything else to the engine, suddenly customers were impressed by the raw power of their new Intrepid or whatever. My Dakota R/T bears this imprint, with a remarkably weak but huge engine, and a very large throttle plate. I compared it once directly to a new (at the time; 2012 or so) Camaro SS with an LS3, which is lighter and has a cool 175hp more. The Camaro with GM's infamously damped e-throttle felt like a minivan until you stomped it and waited a moment. It was raining like hell, yet it was all very civilized. Hopping back into the old Dakota, the gas pedal felt like the detonator to a bomb. From quarter throttle it would blow the tires off and roar like a prostock drag car. If you didn't know any better you'd think it was outrageously powerful. Of course, the big secret is that at quarter throttle it was giving a huge percentage of maximum output, and the bottom half of the pedal is made of pure anchor-dragging disappointment. But it's a neat trick. I guess I need to buy one of these things for the Miata, if they work with NCs. Between that Dodge and a bunch of over-carbed 2-stroke dirt bikes, I've gotten used to that kind of throttle response. It always surprises me just a little in the Miata when the bottom half of the pedal actually makes the car go faster.

We'd love to hear your honest evaluation of the PedalMonster. Brandon and the team at FM were very skeptical at first. However, the most skeptical person of throttle controllers was Gale Banks himself, a hot-rodder from the 50s who still runs Banks today. He was not a fan of the concept until he tried our prototype unit. After a few days of driving with it, he returned to the office and admitted he was wrong. "I never thought I'd say this, but I'm sold. Let's make these!"

I'm curious on what application you see the Ecliptech vs the Banks idash being ideal for. Noticed that you have both on your ND Andy. How does FM like to distinguish those products? Personally I feel there is more capability with the idash and the Ecliptech is a more functional shift light. But I can't speak to ease of use and installation.

The iDash is modular and insanely customizable to monitor almost any system in the car, while we just use the Ecliptech as a shift light. :)

Depends on how heavy your foot is! This part only increases how much the throttle opens relative to the gas pedal position.

Can the idash monitor oil pressure?

It can but not via the OBD2 port on Miatas. Banks has additional sensors that can be added and the oil pressure is one of them.

The iDash should work with both automatic and manual cards, but the pedal monster is only available on the ND at the moment. Sorry.

How about a new standard for electronic controlled throttles.......WYPIWYG (whippy wig). What-you-press-is-what -you-get. I just got a '20 and one annoying thing about it is the lazy throttle when blipping from idle speed. Hopefully the Pedal Monster and/or a tune will fix that.

The Pedal Monster definitely makes the car feel a little peppier at low rpms, but since it's essentially just giving the car more throttle, it feels like it falls off again in the higher rpm range.
