We've sold out of our last batch of these idler arms and bushings. We do still have the set of 14x20mm shims available if you want to dial in the pre-load on the bronze bushings. And if needed, we do have the upgraded flanged nuts available if you have an earlier arm with the stamped washer and Nylock nut: www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/IdlerArm.shtml#On-lineOrdering

I got one from you for my 94 pickup. So far so good. You are doing a great service for Toyota owners. Thanks again. I would say I will buy again but hell this one might last forever.

You should be good to go on that set of bushings.

Pretty neat, I was talking to my dad about doing this just a couple of months ago wondering if it would help with keeping alignments for longer than 9 to 12 months. Its always worn plastic bushes for me. I do a lot of driving, about 60k miles a year so it doesnt take long to find flaws in vehicles for me and his has been a big one.

Went wheeling in my '94 Xtracab with my buddy, and got miles into the trails when he broke his OEM idler arm on his '88 Xtracab (both 22RE with minimal modifications). Turned that day into an adventure, having to take my pickup all the way back to civilization to get a Duralast idler (was not the preferred casting) and then back into the woods to replace it with headlights and flashlights. Wish we would've addressed the idler ahead of time!

Yes, that can be an adventure. Over time, those under-sized OEM idler arm shafts can fatigue, especially if the plastic bushings start to wear out. It's a shame Duralast/AutoZone changed suppliers on the old FA5040 arm, it used to be an excellent product and now it's just run of the mill.

I'm gonna need to get a good set of crescent wrenches before l tackle this job. 🎉🎉🎉
@The4Crawler Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's often true. Some of these arms have that top nut cranked down so tight that it's hard to remove. In the process, the mfg. crushes the flange on the plastic bushings inside which is probably why those bushings wear out so fast.

Hi Mr. R Brown, I thought the arm was supposed to be tight, not rotating around? I am trying to save my old idler arm; the arm is very tight, and not moving.
@The4Crawler3 ай бұрын
Is this with the original plastic or the bronze bushings? The plastic bushings seem to be set up very tight from the factory. Those bushings are somewhat sloppy and then deform to fit tight when compressed. With the bronze bushings, it's not required to set them up as tight since they are a precision fit. As long as there's no play up/down, they are good to go. If you installed the bronze bushings and they're tight on the idler arm shaft, it may be due to excess paint on it or a rough finish. Try sanding down the shaft until the bushings slide on without jamming.

How tight should your arm feel when pivoting?
@The4Crawler8 ай бұрын
Should not feel any up/down or side-side movement. See step 8 of the installation instructions: www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Docs/IdlerBushing_HowTo.shtml

Do you know if I can get any of these to fit a napa proformer
@The4Crawler11 ай бұрын
Check the diameter of the round shaft inside the bracket. If it's 20mm, then the bushings will fit straight away. If it's smaller than that, we have brass shim stock you can wrap around the shaft to better fit inside the bushings: www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/IdlerArm.shtml#FAQ1 www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/IdlerArm.shtml#IdlerArmBushings

If I sent you my old Idler Arm, can you re-bush it for me and drill and tap for a grease fitting on the front?? My Truck is a 1992 Truck/ SR5 / 4 Wheel Drive / 3.0 v6 engine…That way I know I’m getting expert help on this item….

Unless you have an arm with a 20mm dia. shaft in it, these bushings would not fit, and the majority of idler arms do not: www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/IdlerArm.shtml#FAQ1

What above the bush goes to the end of pitman arm attached to idler steering rod ? What sort of bush do we use ?
@The4Crawler3 жыл бұрын
Both the idler arm and the pitman arm connect to the steering relay rod with tie rod end type ball joints. Those have a tapered stud that fits into a tapered hole in the relay rod and then held in place with a nut. No bushings needed for that connection.

@@The4Crawler would changing the bushes of idler arm fix the problems with idler arms ? Or in other words : most of the problems with idler arms caused by the worn out bushes ? So instead of buying new idler arms we can simply change the bushes ..
@The4Crawler2 жыл бұрын
@@koraykaranfilci142 There seem to be 2 or 3 major failure modes. One is that the plastic bushes wear out and that leads the round shaft of the arm moving about inside the bracket on the frame (i.e. sloppy steering). The second mode, that may be preceded by worn bushes, is that the shaft on the arm bends and eventually breaks. The last failure mode is that the tie rod end on the arm wears out or breaks. So if you have an arm that's loose because of worn plastic bushes, then yes, replacing them can restore the arm to like new condition. You can often get new plastic bushes or we have the bronze versions: www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/IdlerArm.shtml If you have an arm that's bent or broken, then it needs to be replaced.
