New BBD Carb For The Polara 318 Mopar

Thanks for the look inside! That satisfied a lot of curiosity about these reproduction carbs. Wish they'd been around in the early to mid 1990's when it seemed really hard to get a good rebuilt one. I had a 1980 Chrysler Cordoba that used that style of BBD. No amount of rebuilding could help it. This looks like it would have been a good solution.

The BBD came in two versions, the 1 1/2" and the 1 1/4". The 1 1/2 was on the larger engines, 383 and similar. By the way, the BBD stands for ball and ball dual, referring to the two check balls, and the fact that it was a 2 barrel. Where did you get the new carb? I noticed it didn't have the metal tag under the air horn screw to tell what application that particular unit was for. Back in the day, it seemed like chrysler wanted 3 of them for all their 340 dart engines, we made them by the thousands.

The BBD is to be set at 1/1/8 to 1/1/4 on air fuel mixture. I would go no more than one and half full turns out to start with.

Can you go over the connections? I ordered exactly the same for 1970 plymouth… the OEM has one port for Pcv valve hose and this one has two… how should this be connected?

Just cap one of the ports so there's no vacuum leak and you're good to go 👍🏻

@@SortedGeorgeGarage thanks! Love your channel. During first start up it shot the plug off the secondary port so I was afraid to push my luck until I verified . Any thoughts on that?

The caps that come with the new carbs aren't exactly up to much.... they're more a dust cap for transportation purposes. You could always get some proper vacuum caps, or just get a small length of hose and clamp 1 end to the carb, and put a bolt in the other end og the hose to block the hole and clamp that into place. Old school 🤘🏻😎 That'll work 😉

The original one as it's the same carb as the factory original Chrysler one - just new instead of worn out 👍🏻😎
