How many people leave comments whining you don’t use enough beekeeping PPEs? I have less than 300 subs, and even that small I get hate mail, can’t imagine what you get!!! Keep going anyway!! Your videos are helping generations of beekeepers now, and in years to come, you are doing a great work, don’t come down!!! Even if you have to work with a sword in on hand and hive tool in the other!!!! 😉
@kamonreynolds5 ай бұрын
Hey Tim! Good to hear from you, sounds like you are staying really busy with your bees. You are correct! The ugly comments happen all the time and sometimes worse things. When we started out it was harder dealing with them because I was unsure and didn't like the sound of my voice. (Still don't) but people like you told us to keep going and we did. Because we decided to work thru the ugly things so much good has happened. Don't let those peons get to you Tim, you have a lot more good to do for others and yourself!

Thanks again for another fantastic video! I'm a second year beekeeper with a lot to learn. Being on the same hive time-line with you has helped me open my hives more aware of what to look for. Thanks!

Ha Kamon the videos are great can you do one of how you inspect your hives the normal way u do it I know you do not pull every frame when the flow starts I have never seen a video on it no where. I remove every honey box and go all the way down to the brood nest at least every 10 days I pull every frame I have 60 hives I am sure u have a simple way of doing this you have 300 hives and like me u do not have help well I am a 65 year old woman and I am getting tired and now I have back problems I want to keep being a bee keeper thanks.

So, I'm in the northeast and have a 1yo hive. A couple weeks ago I checked it and it seemed weaker than was expecting coming out of winter. I reversed the boxes because the queen hadn't moved down into the bottom box and it was essentially empty and molding. I figured the flow was about to start so I didn't feed them. Now 2 weeks on the black berries and black cherry are starting and I open it up and find half the frames in the top box are solid capped brood, the bottom box has lots of brood, but lots of food. Plenty of bread and nectar but nothing capped over. Then I find a bunch of new queen cups and at least one queen cell (swarm) with a newly laid egg not more than 24 hours as it was still standing straight up. I removed all the swarm cups/cells, and added a mostly undrawn medium super, with one partially drawn frame in the middle over a queen excluder. I simply don't have the drawn medium comb, so I don't have any other option. My question is should I expect this hive to continue to build up to swarm? Or is what I did enough. I'm prepared to do a split if I need to.
@bogtv24775 ай бұрын
Thanks for doing this series! This is my first year I started with a package 1 april. My hive is similar, I am at two deeps and I was going to inspect them today like you did but I decided to do it tomorrow because it got late. I'm getting ready to do a split and I spent the afternoon carrying the new box back and forth trips down to where the hive is at. The bee's asked me hey what are you doing down here walking back and forth and decided to give them a break and will open them up to inspect tomorrow. I had queen cups so I'm checking to see if they actually grew a queen and if they did, might do the split. and if I find the queen again I"m going to mark her again. I've marked her three times and they keep cleaning it off. So I have competitive advantage markers but I'm going to simply mark her white because the green marker is a dark dark green and likely wont make it any easier to find her next time I need to.

Can you possibly do a video where you specifically show the difference in the comb of drones, larvae, pollen, etc? I’ve read about it but I think visually seeing it would be a big help.
@dawndominick28335 ай бұрын
I used to use DE too until someone told me that when the bees are fanning to ventilate, they can pull that DE up into the air of the hive and it will get on them and harm them. I decided to play it safe and not use it anymore.

Maybe you can do a viedo on marking handling queens? Those girls are a lot faster than one would think. Last year I tried to get one in a queen cage.. She flew away bopping up and down bc of her weight. Could not catch her and she never came back. The other day a mated queen fell onto my trailer during inspection could not catch her either. Took off my gloves so I would not hurt her got stung by beez 3xs in one place. She went under the nuc on the trailor so I think she will find ger way back. I'm to scare to catch and mark them. Takes so long to raise them!

How old can the pollen be, when you feed it back to them during dearth.?
@kamonreynolds5 ай бұрын
The fresher the better. And if it is it stored in the freezer I think a year would still be very good. Won't be as good as fresh but better than a cheap pollen sub!

Kaymon. I’m about 2 weeks ahead I don’t want to get behind the 8ball. My top deep box is nearly completely drawn and stuffed with nectar (backfilled) Added a super with waxed foundations last week. I’m not looking for honey this year. I want to make more bees before winter.

There is a lot of chatter online claiming your wax is nasty and some people scrape of their comb every year because of a lack of experience spinning honey. The cost of replacing equipment can send you to the poor house.. Smoking your thumb at 3:54 reminds me of Tommy Chong
@kamonreynolds5 күн бұрын
Yeah the people who change their wax out every year I guess don't watch bees in the wild use it for multiple years

I love the global patties with rocket fuel in them. We buy a semi load of them for my expo so I get mine there. HillCo gets several pallets and resells them right now at their store.

How can you tell if your queen cell is for a swarm or a supercedure? In missouri, I got a package of bees 2 months ago and they are maybe 2 frames behind yours here. I keep finding queen cups and elongated a couple times now too.

I was just thinking I want a shirt that says “swarm producer” with a tree and blob, all my queens go to the trees. How many deep comb frames per hive do you think you use in spring to prevent swarming.

Hello sir, was just wondering if you wax your frames or if you buy them with enough wax already on?
@kamonreynolds5 ай бұрын
These are the Premier's extra heavy wax foundations. I haven't ever seen the need to add additional wax if they are used within 2 years of purchase. As you can see from the video the bees really like it.
@xHONEY0BADGERx5 ай бұрын
Yes that’s why I asked, looks like the bees don’t have issues with those. The ones that came with hive kit I purchased I’ve had to rewax

How did we as humans ever survive ancient times, medieval times, and the renaissance era’s? There are 2 things vital to survival…. One is a P.T. Belt and the other is a new suit!!!! Lol! People stop whining about safety…… it’s called “common sense”. You do what your comfortable with, and mind your own damn business. Read a book about free will. It’s interesting.
