Correlation does not equal causation.

Doesn’t equal but definitely does suggest. I mean behaviour is definitely contagious esp in teen years. Alcohol smoking defo as a result of friend groups.

@@youtubeboxingcentral2022 the problem is, the similar interest influence social groups as well maybe the obese people all are foodies thus they hang out together or In the case of smokers who tend to be ostracized in society are forced to hangout with each other. Anecdotally I don't hangout that much with my own friend who have become heavy drinkers, because now we don't have as much in common.

James Mitchell notice I didn’t address the obesity issue because I’m not too sure but I will say that if your family is obese in my experience you are more likely to be obese. Children aren’t foodies from birth they learn from those around them. You talk about smoking in the adult world yes smoking groups do tend to form but in the teen years (when the habits start) smoking starts usually out of peer pressure and joint curiosity. Alcohol is also the same.

@@youtubeboxingcentral2022 In regards to childhood obesity it's probably best to avoid it as children have very little agency to make decisions. I agree with you about the influence of peer groups on teens, but the video doesn't make such a distinction. It applies it's theory more broadly. Further more how can a static measure show influence, when influence implies some sort of change? Would a longitudinal study make more sense?

Though this program shows that behavioural economics can be used to improve society, it can be used for the opposite.

At 1:30 I thought it was just people with certain traits just naturally gravitated toward similar people?

Doesn't this simply describe the normal spread of obesity in a population? In other words, there are percentages of each type of population from obese to non-obese. For each person there is a certain likelihood that their friends will be obese purely based on population percentages. Was this tested in populations where those obese to non-obese ratios are different to see if the correlation holds? And you'd in theory have to do an experiment where you track some individuals and see if those whose friend population makeup had their own obesity level change over time dependent on their friend makeup changing. Seems dubious.

This is only because people gravitate towards other like people. This is over thinking it. Drug addicts like to hang with other drug addicts. Misery loves company. There's soo many other examples out there. I'm 150 lbs. And most people around me are much heavier than me. I've never been able to gain weight.

I'm watching episode 3 and saw episode 1.. Will catch up with the other Two. However this programme ignores what philosophers have been grappling with for hundred of years. How we see and experience the world and how it actually is. This programmes weakness is the assumption that we have 2 groups opposing each other etc. It ignores intersectionality and more importantly power and money. Billionaires funding global social media and MSM to pump up hate and division is not equal to those who challenge these power structures. The 3 year old t-shirt experiment assumes those children are a blank page not already socialised and exposed to the construction of their world.

What exactly matters throughout all of future eternity and to whom does it exactly and eternally matter to? Currently, pertinent facts matter, but one day, there is not going to be a conscious entity from this Earth left to care. ONLY those species who eventually get off of this Earth might survive longer, everybody else eventually dies and goes extinct.
