As new schools get added to the Big 12 conference at a staggering rate, it becomes apparent that fans of these new schools might not be too familiar with their future conference opponents or the universities they represent. The Big 12 itself is full of schools that have strong regional brands, but not national ones---yet. One of these schools is my alma mater, Kansas State, and I've noticed a trend amongst fanbases online of confusion over the Wildcats. So, as an introduction to K-State for those new seven schools (and Colorado, welcome back Buffaloes), I decided to make this brief overview of the Cats for anyone who might need a refresher on some of K-State's heavy hitters.
In this video, I cover some basic traditions of K-State, like the Pride of Wildcatland and the Wabash Cannonball, as well as some brief histories of the football and basketball programs, from Bill Snyder's greatest building project in college sports history to the arrival of Jerome Tang as head men's basketball coach last season, and even some insight on K-State's biggest rivalries with KU and Iowa State.
As always, the comments are always open to response, as long as nobody flings any mud or starts any arguments. K-State fans, be sure to add things in the comments I missed that you think is important enough for the new fans to know. Fans of the new eight schools, don't be afraid to ask questions, like where the best place to eat in Manhattan is or where to go to tailgate.
Given that I'm a K-State grad, I won't be making any videos on the other Big 12 schools, since I flat out don't come from a position of knowledge for them. But if you have the means, I'd like to challenge you to make an introductory video as well. It's not every day a conference as competitive as the Big 12 adds eight programs, so insight like that would be greatly appreciated!
