From the web: "No, Congress has not stolen money from Social Security: Social Security Act of 1935: Requires excess cash to be invested in interest-bearing bonds backed by the U.S. government. Government borrowing: The federal government borrows money from Social Security to fund its operations, similar to how consumers and businesses use money deposited in a bank. The big thing you missed in this video is the fact that taxes on Social Security should be illegal in the first place. Double taxation is illegal and that is exactly what is happening. SS recipients have already paid taxes on the wages when they were working and now when retirees desperately need this income the most to live the government gives them the shaft! Retirement may become a problem for Americans

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

That is the way I am understand how social security started !!! Now , back when we were raised , we were believed that Social Security would take care of us, until we die . Third of all : there was no retirement plan or 401k … etc. back when us baby boomers grew up !!! I am the descendent of a boomer as are my 2 older sisters. I have worked, and been taxed, since I was 14 years old. My sisters get to retire at 65. I have to work until 67. I agree that social security should not be taxed, it was our money, taken from us, to provide for us in our old age. I was told at 14, the government takes your money to pay you later in life. I said back then, why can't I keep it and save for myself, I was more fiscally responsible at that age than any member of Congress. I was told by my high school history teacher: Did you know that most Senators have had not one, but two failed businesses? Now I'm being told that cuts will be made come 2031 or 2034?! 😮 I get to retire shortly after that...what will be my paycheck? My taxes are higher than ever, with 1/3 of my check going bye-bye off the bat, and my refunds at the end of the year getting smaller and smaller. Meanwhile, inflation and cost of living has skyrocketed where I live, so I try to save extra but it is damn near impossible. W..T...F. Stop messing with the social security fund, get your shit straight, and solve this shit because I didn’t pay in my whole damn life just to be told there's nothing left of my own money and I have to work until I die!

Went from paying $20 a week for gas to $100 a week. Groceries went from $671 a month to $300-$400 a week!! EVERYTHING has gone up well over 100%, yet they slap is with 2.5% increase. It's absolutely PATHETIC and disgusting!! I can't help that I'm disabled now but I paid into it for 35 years and I'm getting 💩 back.

I'm sorry about your situation. Depending on what your disability allows, maybe you could do something for cash/at home, like voice-over books, child-mind, data-entry or label or package things or some other small task for a local business. Even collecting return-for-refund bottles (maybe get your kids involved?). Once you make a little bit extra money--while I know his may sound undoable--if you buy even one 1-ounce coin of silver a month ($28) or save the same amount for 3 months and buy a 1-gram gold coin (Canadian Maple is best at 99.9% pure gold, American Eagle 2nd due to 91% gold content) after a year or two, you will likely have made more than inflation (esp. with gold). If necessary, you can sell it or keep it for emergencies. I know it sounds difficult, but precious metals usually protect the holder's buying power--much better than putting any extra $ in the bank at 3 or 4%.

I get all of my medical from the VA as well! So, I went to the social security office filled out a form to stop Medicare from taking the money out of my check every month putting it back onto my check every month. You should do the same. To stop Medicare premiums from being deducted from your Social Security check, you need to fill out Form CMS-1763, which is called "Request for Termination of Premium Hospital Insurance or Supplementary Medical Insurance" and submit it to your local Social Security office; this form allows you to cancel either Part A or Part B of Medicare, depending on your situation. I would go to the office to do it because it's quicker. I did it and got the money back on my check the very same month.

It was not easy and we went without and never bought new cars etc. Now SSI is just a smaller part of out income every month. Why? because we did not ever think the government had the duty to take care of us, that responsibility was ours not theirs. Sorry you did not take your retirement seriously and take responsibility for yourself. Too late for you. You should tell every young fool like you to not be like you and shirk responsibility for your own retirement income. Best advice for you now? start a crafts type business for extra income. I am doing that just to keep busy and afford toys and not have to take my retirement income to pay for them. They divorced in the mid 70’s and she scrimped all those years raising 4 kids to boot with rents from the 3 flat she lived in plus measly child support. When she started getting his SSI the cheeks took away her weekly home help visits, Medicaid, LifeLine and SNAP benefits. She gets more $ now but pays for her home care once a week, pays for Medicare out of her SSI, and relies on a food pantry. Where is HER fairness!!!!

Social security is in jeopardy and they are giving government workers who already have fat pension more money. How dumb are the politicians more and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

Most rich people stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then most poor people stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich but impressing them. People prefer to spend money on liabilities, Rather than investing in assets and be very profitable

Forty years is a long wait, but I’m happy it has finally arrived. I’m 74 for Pete’s sake, better late than never! As a single person, I always had to supplement my teacher’s salary with numerous other jobs and paid my share into the system. I only retired full time at 70. Enough is enough! Thank you, I’m very grateful to finally receive what I rightfully earned...good bye WEP/ GPO!

At its height in 1949, US foreign aid totaled nearly $100 billion, while it bottomed out at just under $25 billion in 1997, both after adjusting for inflation. Between 1946 and 2022, the US has spent an average of $51.0 billion each year. Consider: Since 1980, defense spending has risen by 62%, climbing from $506 billion to $820 billion by 2023, after adjusting for inflation. In 2023, the US military spent approximately $820.3 billion, or roughly 13.3% of the entire federal budget for that fiscal year. The US outspends on military as much as the next ten countries.

If all you’re living on just Social Security, you pay very little taxes on Social Security. I know many people that they live on Social Security and they don’t even pay taxes because they don’t make enough to barely survive. We need more money in Social Security everybody does. Especially those among us where that’s all they have. Many older people are not any longer able to pay for rent and can’t get into low income housing across the country. People are starting to live in vans and cars more and more. All the while the rich get richer.
