Great review Matt 👍 I have a 2019 F90 M5 (non-comp) and I picked that over a comp car because it’s slightly softer on UK roads and I’m not a driving god and it is without doubt still an absolutely epic car. I’m not sure what the 0-60 of the ‘normal M5’ is but it’s quick. I saved £27,000 off list and it’s s fully loaded with the adaptive cruise, massage seats, better lights etc etc. The LCi is no doubt a great car and probably a better car than mine but the pre-facelift is also epic and now a lot cheaper than a new M5 comp. If I were to be buying again - a) you can only get the comp car, you don’t have the choice of a normal softer car b) don’t buy a new one, get either a pre-reg new non-LCi or a used pre-facelift with low mileage. Regardless of the fact it’s no sports car, it’s still exciting to drive, I love the sound for the sports exhaust makes in Sports+ and handles very well for a 2T barge!

I have worked with/for BMW for 34 years and I’m currently the service test driver for the dealer I’ve worked for (27 years here) . I have driven thousands of BMW’s over the years and I can say this man is spot on about the 550 being all you need for the street. No one really needs an M car for the street but they are a helluva lot of fun to drive!!!! And yes the 550 is more comfortable to drive especially on long trips.

I drove the M5 Competition at a BMW track day last summer, and it was impressively good. We kept on the safety nannies but it was quite easy for an amateur to get it up to 130 on the straight and then brake quickly to enter the corners and chicanes without losing control. The acceleration and braking performance is outstanding. We didn’t get to drive it on the street but I believe that it would not be as smooth and comfortable on rougher roads as my daily driver 540. The customers for this class of car will have more than one car, undoubtedly, so daily driving comfort should not be a consideration.

M5 will be faster. does it matter whether its by 0.1 second or 1 second. lets not kid ourselves, people will buy these cars for the flex (they're both jack of all traders, masters...) . The M5 is so much more desirable, its worth the extra 30k for the fruits that come with that alone.

Around 4:40 he says that you can't shut the boot using the key. Actually you can, you just need to keep the button pressed and it will close the boot. It will stop the closing motion directly when you let go of the button on the key.

@@markoobradovic1825 Agreed, black out the grille, get it in that beautiful Isle of Man Green if you can and you’re sorted. I think the big grille suits the M3 and M4 a lot better than the standard 4 series, because it doesn’t have the chrome bits around and within it.

@@jojajo2707 look it up. The fastest officially recorded M5 is 2.6. And it’s not problems with launch control. M5 has a ZF auto gearbox so doesn’t have conventional launch control like that in a double clutch gearbox car. The computers can’t give the same assistance with launch control. Therefore it’s up to the driver to properly launch it. That’s why people get so many different 0-60 times with the M5.

@@bmf5420 there is a LC in bmw. Panamera is using the same zf8 speed and it works well all the time. Its not the drivers fault, its bmw fault. Chris Harris or mat said it allready, that the m5 lc just sucks. Please show a video with that times. In every german test the m5 doesnt came even close to 2.6 seconds. Dont mix the fact that c&d have a 1 foot rollout start while the rest of the world dont use that. U cant compare the times. No m5 or m8 will ever do a 0-60 in 2.5 from a dead stop. Thsts impossible. @@jojajo2707 the procedure is called launch control, and the onboard computer will tell you LC is ready, but it’s not actually launch control. The ZF box only has brake torque launch. And I’ve heard problems with M5’s gearbox myself. There’s an undocumented limit of the number of “launch controls” the car can do before the gearbox wears. But still, that doesn’t take away the fact that people record times of 2.7-2.8 seconds in non-ideal conditions. I can’t send pictures through KZbin but I have the performance report of someone recording a 2.7sec. And you’re right about C&D, I completely forgot they use the 1-foot rollout in America 👍 regardless of BMW’s ZF problems, nothing takes away from it’s unbelievable performance

Ever since the M5 went twin-turbo V8, the car to get has been the M550i below it. Like you say - too big, too stiff, too fast, still isn't a sports car...if you want a proper M car, get an M2 and enjoy it because it is the best M car! If you want a fast BMW saloon, get an M550i. My friend has been selling BMWs for five years now and the "get the M###i model below the M" has been good advice across the board at BMW for that whole period of time (except for the M2).

The M5 CS is the one and I agree a tuned M550i will be an awesome daily specially with the M Titanium performance exhausts :))
