Articulate and erudite but also personable and genuine! Looking forward to following your booktube journey. “Deeply wound-up thoughts unraveling” is poetry.

Just so you know, you come off perfectly speaking on camera, despite the awkwardness you feel. I wonder if you are a writer as well as a reader? What kind of books did your parents write? Also, your bookshelf looks wonderful and I'm straining my eyes trying to read the titles. Perhaps a tour?? Welcome and thank you!
@ToReadersItMayConcern10 ай бұрын
You're so kind. I really appreciate you saying that. A tour will definitely happen! I just have to figure out a decent camera setup for it. I write all of the time, but not professionally. I work as both an English teacher and book editor, so words matter to me a great deal. My mom stuck with journalism while my dad has written poetry books, memoirs, realistic fiction, and even a couple children's books.

I second what Lucy said. You speak very well! I'm glad to have come across your channel!

I love the shelves behind you! And welcome to booktube, I'm interested to see what sort of content you will be releasing.

Thank you! I'm still figuring that out. Expect some variety in video topics as I work through what interests me most. People have requested a bookshelf tour, so that'll certainly happen at some point.

Really appreciate your thoughtful care & calm. I love fantasy & magic realism, but am a massive poetry/philosophy nerd. Thanks for the bookish inspiration.

Welcome to BookTube! I'm humbled I'm one of your favorite channels. Yay! Looking forward to more of your videos...great to have you here! :) I don't think I caught your name in the video (if you want to share, of course).

Hi, Peg! It's great to see you here. I have my own "history shelf" off-camera, and I'd say almost half the books are inspired by your many, many wonderful book hauls. Thanks for giving us readers so much to consider (despite the strain on our wallets). And you're right, I hadn't considered mentioning my name-It's Ruben. I'll try mentioning that in future videos. :)

Lovely introduction to your channel -it's wonderful to have your voice on booktube! Personally, I have yet to start my own booktube journey. Thus far, I have leaned toward writing blog posts, however I do miss discussing books. I look forward to following your booktube journey since we share many of the same interests! Cheers & fond regards -John

Just finding your newbie tag. Welcome to BookTube! I love everything you said about books shifting our mindsets and things that are hidden in literature. Books and reading are so powerful.

Thank you so much for being here! The intimacy of books is unmatched, intimacy of thought, of sentiment, of desires, books being our nearest way toward someone else's mind. It's wonderful.

Steve and Chris are brilliant, I lost count of how many books I read because of their videos.
@ToReadersItMayConcern10 ай бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree. They're a consummate gift to us all. I might make a video just on the books I only know about because of them. That seems like a fun idea.

Hey I just found you in my mentions! Thanks for the kind words. Just subscribed. Welcome to Booktube! Hooray for convoluted fiction!! You get used to talking to the camera. I kind of like that it's not like teaching.

Yes, hooray for convoluted fiction! I just heard that the Marguerite Young reprints are due out soon from Dalkey Archive press-I hope that spurs on many new readers to give her a shot; she's someone I only discovered because of you, and I'm thankful for that. I recorded a new vid yesterday, and it does feel more comfortable. Doing this has helped me realize, though, how much I rely on facial feedback when I speak. It becomes like fuel for my words. Thank you so much for watching!

Do you take notes and make lots of annotations when reading? Make summaries, written analysis? Do you practice that intense way of reading? Or are you just casually reading without taking notes.
@ToReadersItMayConcern5 ай бұрын
I take extensive and careful notes. I have a video on how I annotate that shows footage of my scribblings and a video on how I 'read seriously' that may be of interest to you.

Helllooo Welcome to booktube! Do you use discord? I would love to talk with you, we have soo many of the same books!

Yes, you can find me there (and you already have, it seems). I've noticed that about your book selection as well: we share similar tastes. I have about four other shelves that are off-camera and they contain even more overlap, such as with our collection of Oxford Handbooks. Feel free to send me a message! We actually chatted back-and-forth through comments on one of your videos, months and months ago (not using this channel). We discussed skepticism. I think I said some things about existence itself being a possible prior and about how skepticism would also commit you to being skeptical about your own memory (and thus the memory of your own skeptical argument), and you brought up your own skepticism about the need for consistency. I hope I remember your position correctly and maybe that'll jog your memory of the discussion.

@@ToReadersItMayConcern I couldn't tell you. Soo many people have debated me about my skepticism over the past 7 years that it's become a blur. We can chat about it more thoroughly over voice. I actually want to make a nonfiction book discord for people who read thiccc books lol. The level of conversation that these subjects requires often suffers from being done via comment sections.
