WOW!!! I think I need this! I had been looking at the old Boss ME-50B. So nice to see they finally updated that unit. And like you, I like knobs!! I've owned a Zoom B1 Four and recently got a Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig v2 and prefer it because of the knobs. This Boss ME-90B has all that and more! I am not much on effects, but I love the versatility this brings and of course, the Boss name and reputation. Thanks so much for this demo.

I got a boss ME50B as a Christmas gift back in 2010. I still keep it for sentimental reasons. I got a boss GT1000 core in 2021 and it sounds awesome but sometimes it takes time to dial it in. This unit seems easy to dial in and I like the fact that it's for bass instead of the GT1000 core which it's primarily for guitar Wich a few bass FX added.

I was very close to purchasing a Zoom B6 or other multi effects unit. I'd been watching the vids on the ME 90B closely. I realized, I'm still trying to finish learning how to use my few years old, Zoom MS 60B, still had not learn to use it completely with the all the touch screen options. I think I'd prefer to have the turn knobs at my reach to tweak the effects more quickly. Ordered the ME 90B, will arrive later this week. We'll see how much easier it will be to use; for me.

Frequencies are not the same... If you think bass that s fine you are in the range. It Can be heavy to transport but it is solid gear with pro connections for live and studio experiences.

Otherwise Katana bass amp would be a good alternative for practice or small gigs. it has effects on it (+app)and portable bass amp easy to carry for the same price. If you are not too sure then Spark 2 amps are affordable and great product , they are made for bass and guitar. (+App).

Is it capable of having both the compressor and the octaver switched on at the same time?

It looks like it's impossible, but digging in the manual it says that if you use the "Boss Tone Studio" app for this device, you can change the FX2 Humanizer effect and exchange it for another one. One of these is the "M-Comp", which gives you the ability to then run an octaver in FX1 and the compressor in FX2. The Zoom MS60B+ seems a little more flexible, although you don't get the easy adjustability.

yes, octaver is in fx1 block where compressors are also, but compressors are also accessible from mod block without a software need. if you use m-comp as compressor, you can also reach it from fx2 block with tone studio software.

Any idea what WAV file formats are supported in the IR loader for loading your own Impulse Reponses into the 3 user slots in the BOSS Tone Sudio? The manuals have no details and at the moment I'm using trial and error with different formats for various 3rd party Bass IR packs, all unsuccessfully.

Good news! I've tested with Own Hammer IR library (the Ampeg SVT library) all the way up to their 96 kHz 500ms samples, and also some IRs from Shift Line, and had no problems. Just one gotcha, you can only upload IRs into the 3 x User slots while the ME-90B is connected to the computer. I have to say, using the IRs really improved a lot of the sounds over the default "SP Type = Original" quite significantly. With many sounds there is the high frequency noise which I found went away when I used any of the IRs I uploaded.

yes, 3 ir can be loaded as cab sim. I'm not sure if 3 ir per each patch or in total. You can save your combinations and have 36 empty slot for that. Every effect set has its own dedicated button. You have buttons for Preamp, modulation , fx1, fx2 , drive/synth, reverb/delay and blend + expression pedal. I mostly use this as a pedalboard. I create base pedalboard patches like markbass amp + compressor. When I need I toggle drive, chorus or reverb. You can either use it like pedalboard or as a patch which you can manipulate your setup with ctl button. Management is really cool for live and very flexible.

@@kotanel yes this is possible in memory mode. CTL button is for that. Once you design a patch then you set the behaviour of CTL button like "toggle drive + chorus + reverb" on/off. or whatever effects you like.

Next on Caveman Multi Effects; with Bluetooth device control, user presets, insertable effects loop, tuner, battery capabilities, only 195mA, USB to editing software. I'll bet there is a way to get your compressor and the octave in there somewhere and I think you can inport IR cabinet sims, too? I ordered and hope I can dump my Two Notes Opus IR library or at least a couple of cab sims into this. Having a pedalboard garage sale and using this small dynamic board.

Getting back into bass . Not sure about this ,as I have the ME-8B and Zoom B3 . When I purchased the ME8-B it was complicated back in 1996. I also have the Roland Bass Microcibe RX which is good playing at home . I don't play in bands anymore ,so I may not need this 😊

I first got into the mini basses when you showed the Mayones Cali. But I was really turned on, when you reviewed the Tiny Boy ones, from Japan, specially because I wanted a fretless 5string. But these are even more inexpensive, and easier to order. Thomann doesn't carry the TinyBoy brand, unfortunately. PS: Flight also have the Mini JB bass SB model, but I wanted a neck carve/contour, on the TBL. I'm curious as to whether they are going to be any good. Cheers ;)

Something else I've learned as I delved deeper... This is a minor thing, but if you are trying to setup a delay with a VERY specific ms timing (e.g. to match backing track/sequence with specific tempo), the ME-90B only lets you set Delay Time in 10ms increments, e.g. 440ms, 450ms, 460ms, etc. So if you have a song with 116bpm tempo and want a matching 464ms delay - you can't :(

Have had the boss gt1b for a bit more than a year now and I'm pretty comfortable with it now. That being said, having to exit one menu before getting to another is quite annoying, so much that I ended up buying certain effect pedals separately. If I was in the market for a multi effects unit now, I would probably look at this one instead. 🤔

Downgraded from a GT-1000 to an ME-90 and use it every day. The A-I-R-D engine is a huge upgrade from the ME-80. Love BOSS. Great review. Best Regards and Best Wishes!.

I have a Boss GT-1B, which can do pretty much the same thing including getting lost in the abyss of the menu. To upgrade my gear GAS I went for an HX Stomp. Together with the hx edit software you can create almost everything on the fly (without getting lost in the menu of the Stomp)

I am a proud owner of the ME50B for over 10 years. I have been looking forward to an upgrade. But this ME90B is just a modern toy that can do the job. I was hoping for a more compact and versatile product. There are not that many multi effect options on the market for bass players. I would love to see a finished all-in-one dedicated to bass. Boss almost did it this time.

that's an issue we're dealing with constantly, but there's no real solution. The volume differences are depending on the system you're using to watch the video. TV's and AirPods make speech louder, proper speakers or headphones give the normal volume. We're mixing in a way trying to accommodate everyone as good as we can, but it's a challenge
