Family mostly, Juan (what's left of 'em, anyway!). Staying close to home. Gigs on the 30th and New Year's Eve. But I did treat myself to a cute little Sonor AQX "Jazz" kit! I'm having fun getting reacquainted with an 18" kick wide open again and trying to make the most out of just one all purpose type cymbal cymbal and a hi hat. Feliz Navidad to you and yours and thanks for giving all year 'round. 🙏☮🎄

Very good playing. But I miss the core of Gary Chesters concept: singing the pulse, the offbeat, the melody and any other voice of the used ostinato WHILE playing the reading.
@JuanCarlitoMendoza

Absolutely! I do that as well. I just didn’t do it in this video. Maybe I’ll do a part 2. The only problem is when recording I can’t have the lav mic on because it will peak and distort.

@@JuanCarlitoMendoza Mr Mendoza, you're killing me. I liked the sound of the Foundry Reserves but there was a slight clang to the sound. These paper thins are probably the dream. The average 14" Foundry Reserve hi-hat weights are approx 950/1160g. Paper thins could be around 820/950g maybe? Either way, I'll be watching closely to see if they debut in your upcoming vids!

Thank you Juan! Yet another tasty lesson. Sooo smooth, with dynamics. There's an end result I probably never reach. But, at 4:36 it sounds like the snare and kick doesnt line up so well,or am I wrong?
@JuanCarlitoMendoza
@JuanCarlitoMendoza 7 ай бұрын
Could be. I’m human like anyone else, so there are probably plenty of flubs in there that I could fix in post, but eh not worth it. I want to be as transparent as possible with my playing. Plus I try to film these as quick as I can before my family gets home so I usually do these example in 2-3 takes at most.
@PezrulezHaakon
@PezrulezHaakon 7 ай бұрын
@@JuanCarlitoMendoza I do understand the press for time. I also have a family. I appreciate your transparency, and I love to watch your videos and lessons. The things you do are unique and you do them so effortless with an amazing amount of finesse. But I'm not entirely convinced you're 100% human 🤗 Keep up your good work 🙏

Excellent except why not begin the double pardiddle on the hi hat with the left (weaker hand ) so as not to have to cross under when you hit the snare w the left hand (snare would then be hit with the right hand).. Harder at first bit easier and more efficient in the end .
@JuanCarlitoMendoza
@JuanCarlitoMendoza 7 ай бұрын
Most people are right hand dominant so I just started it that way. You can do whatever you'd like. That's the beauty of new breed. There's no right or wrong. It's whatever YOU need to work on. Cheers!
