Join me on board as I review the British Airways First Class product in their new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from London Heathrow to Abu Dhabi.

I am surprised that BA's First Class seating is what other airlines have as their Business Class seating. I am dumbfounded that BA kept their Business Class seating on new planes.

Hi Jason, while I agree it looks like the reverse herringbone layout in many other airlines (ie CX and QR) but they are more spacious. Still, they're not as spacious as what's found in the Qantas A380 or as private as the Emirates first class product.

Hi mate, I've recently bought a new microphone so hopefully the audio quality is a little better. :) Unfortunately Apple make is quite hard to get microphones to work with their products.

BA's lack of investment over the last decade has meant that their first class is more comparable to the business classes of many other airlines.

This was a new product a few years ago so I wouldn't say that they haven't invested anything into it. Having said that, it's just not that great of a product. I didn't find the hard product that bad (while it looks like Qatar/Cathay's business class, it does feel quite a bit bigger), it was the services that really let it down. I withheld a lot of my criticisms of the services in the video.

Yes you're right. I felt that BA didn't really try with this new seat, considering at the time Emirates and others were going all out with suites. What were your thoughts on the services?

Sorry for the slow reply. The service was really quite bad. I really toned down my thoughts about the crew in the video because I didn't want to be too mean, but it really was pretty bad.

Coming back from Antigua in December First Class was as you described but as they were not selling it as First we had business food (inedible) and they had not cleaned the plane - nuts and crumbs in the seat and on the floor. Crew were OK though. They still have a way to go

BA are putting out a new business class in late 2019, it will eventually be on all flights, it is going to be the same as Oman, Japan business, a staggered 2,2,2 across

Yes why fly 2-4-2 in a cramped cabin when you can fly 1-2-1 -for example with Cathay. BA 777 Business is very poor value for money. Go figure

Great video Paul. Your videos are easy to understand, unlike some other airline reviewers which only use subtitles are hard to understand if you have a headache or something similar. BA first class is more like a premium business class. But I do prefer the more ‘mature’ black/grey theme over the tacky looking gold and shiny sliver look of other airlines.

Decent trip report. I appreciate the abbreviated departure and arrival video. Twenty minutes looking out the window in First is no different than twenty minutes looking out the window in economy. We've all seen take off at night and adding one more after 1,000 times is just agony and I hit 'next' quite quickly. Thank you.

LOL I must admit I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. If you're not meant to store stuff in there, I'm not really sure what the purpose of it would be! They said to disconnect electrical items if I was going to sleep but otherwise it seems odd to have a storage hole and then tell people not to put anything in it.

Another great video. Please check your shutter speed and that it doesn't pick up on the LED lights. A few scenes in your video were hard to watch. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Chris. Was that the scenes towards the end when I was looking at my watch? The camera did struggle to there. I must admit that I leave it in auto mode. What's causing the distortion?

It tended to occur when you were filming the food. Its because of the frequency of the LED lights and the cameras electronic shutter. Try experimenting with either your FPS (24/30/60) or shutter speed (1/50, 1/125, 1/150). You'll find a frequency that doesn't exhibit this light effect. Again, great videos - keep it them up! :-)

Nice video. That’s not actually a buddy seat on the 787; the clue is no seatbelt! You’re a braver man than me going in to the toilet with socks and leaving your clothes on the floor, regardless of whether you’re the first user or not. They don’t get that good a clean between flights!

An interesting review Paul, thanks for posting. As is the general consensus, it's not a great first class product is it. It's not as flash at the emirates suite or as spacious as the Qantas suite. I look forward to your next video!

Booked our BA First for our trip to New York in December on the 787. Did BA First on the 777 out of Gatwick last year so be interesting to see the improvement.

It would be a pity to fly out of Gatwick and miss out on the Concorde lounge. Were there decent lounges at LGW?

We had to fly out of LGW in Decemeber as were going to Barbados. We are doing LHR this year and going into Newark on the 787. The lounge at LGW was OK, I imagine the Concorde Room to be significantly better!

Another good review. Now that’s what first class cabins ought to look like. Much better than Qantas A380 for style & modernity. I wonder how often the visitors seat are used in first class. I couldn’t imagine 2 people ever eating together on a small table given they’d already have the comfort of their own first class seat. Maybe good if people still played cards or games together.

Thanks mate. Apparently people aren't meant to sit on that 'other seat' although I did see people doing it on the flight. I agree that the table is probably too small for two people. I agree that the colours and design is nice, although in the defense of the Qantas product, this is a lot newer (QFs is over 10 years old).
