New Brunswick Muskie | Fish'n Canada

Angelo heads to the province of New Brunswick with good buddy and Muskie fishing nut Steve Niedzwiecki (owner of Chaudiere Lodge, Upper French River), as they seek Canada's number one predator... the Muskellunge. You read it correctly, there "are" Muskie in NB and they are thriving in the waters of the Saint John River... one problem though, in this water they're considered an invasive species and many of the old school locals want them eradicated! Ang and Steve try to bring new light to this magnificent sport fish and open up the eyes to the entire country saying "these Muskie are here to stay, so let's embrace and take full advantage of this relatively new and exciting east-coast fishery"!

In the way that they like it being there. That's it. As least brown trout look like they're supposed to be there lol.

invasive species by definition means: a non native species causing ecological or economical harm. so while not native, muskies are certainly not causing this kind of harm to the fishery. on the contrary it could be argued that they are in fact doing the exact opposite and having a positive effect in both regards and should or could be considered "naturalized" meaning: A non-native species that is introduced to a wild area, where it successfully establishes a population. A naturalized species may become invasive if it grows large enough and has negative effects on the native ecosystem. by the very nature of the species, plus the mount of forage in the system, and given the size of the water in New Brunswick, there is very little to no chance of muskies having these negative effects

there is absolutely ZERO evidence muskies have caused any negative effects on the ecosystem and all studies/research completed by non biased entities such as UNB and Canadian Rivers Institute show this. unless of course you talk to and believe the guys that take their limit and more of every over and undersized trout from the brook each and every time out while complaining "them muskies are eating all my trout"
