New California clean air rules may force many port truck drivers to leave

The California Air Resources Board aims to replace all diesel trucks with zero emission vehicles by 2035. But for port truckers, the deadline is much closer.

Supply and Demand may result in better rates for those who can still operating as port trucks in California. I understand that you will not be able to register a truck for port use after 2023 unless it is electric.

A lot of these trucks provide drayage from ports to inland shipping terminals. They’re older model rigs that basically haul containers. They mostly operate in port areas; Long Beach, Oakland, Stockton, etc - these are not the long- haul interstate trucks. A lot of small business operators will be forced out of work. This may have beneficial results in the long term by reducing some emissions, but in the meantime there are a lot of logistical and supply issues that will result.

The new manager forced the large and medium-sized transportation companies that have been in normal operation for many years to move out of the port of Oakland site, and then sent the benefits to AMB to operate the parking fee, which increased the parking fee by 3 times for the current transportation company! It makes it difficult for the entire transportation industry to operate normally, and seriously affects the customer service of the port of Oakland. Many customers feedback that they want to switch to the port of Long Beach, not to mention the customers in the e-commerce industry!

The new trucks aren't there and NO infrarstructure exists even at entry level. Do they expect trucks to park next to cars to charge? Reality check, no one's parking a 100,000 car next to a truck to charge.

Good! Putting a deadline means innovation happens faster, inventions to make the batteries last longer, more charging stations for all. If you think moving to electric and emissionless vehicles is tough, you might want to get out of the industry now before self driving trucks replace you by 2035 as well. Precisely. Someone has to force the issue on this, no matter how painful it might be, or we'll never make progress. We've known for over 50 fucking years that we need to switch to renewable energy sources, but nothing has changed. Now that we can actually see the effects on the ground (massive wildfires, hurricanes, insane tropical storms, etc) we're starting to do something about it, but I fear it will be too little too late.

I'm a truckdriver that once worked in Oakland port I'm sick and tired hearing this climate change crap there is no climate change I moved to Texas the air is the same as California I owe a 2008 Frightliner still working no problem here as for California thar state will go bankrupted
