Mixed reactions on that so far. I think it is definitely do-able, but I really want to see Sony release a mirrorless camera with 10 bit that is capable of S-Log3 without significant artifacting. That may be a big ask however.

seeing the a7iii side by side is astounding, if that little camera could do 10 bit then the fx9 may not even exist. i feel bad for all the a7siii holdouts, cuz they are gonna cripple that camera bad or else there wouldnt be a reason to buy the fx9

It seems that the next gen of alpha cameras must have 10 bit internal given the competition. One bit of positivity is that the FX9 has the potential to be upgraded significantly via firmware updates if Sony does release a camera that encroaches on its market.

Congrats on the new cam bro! What made you pick this over something like the BMPCC6K or the closer C500 II (when it’s out)? Also, what kind of projects are you using it for? Assuming you won’t be hauling this thing around on weddings lol

There’s a myriad of reasons I chose this over the 6k including af, usability, DR, but the biggest factor is that I really ate EF mounts. I like to use vintage glass, and I love my e-mount lenses. I’ll definitely be taking this with me for weddings though 😉 2020 Kristin and I are diversifying a bit and shooting more music video and doc style work too

@@AustinBlackvideo Canon itself is in a trouble, they have released two low-spec RF mount cameras more than a year ago, but at the same time they have made and released a bunch of brilliant and very expensive RF lenses for these two RF cameras. For a year Canon hasn't released any other EF camera, only the C500 mark II. What is going to be future of Canon Cinema camera line? With the $11000 price the FX9 is not cheap at all, but the C500II is even more expensive. As for BMPCC6K, it is not FF and has no video AF at all. As far as I can see from some examples of the shooting style of Austin, he loves or would love reliable smooth video AF, which is only available from Sony and Canon today. Philip Bloom picked the FX9 as the video camera of the year for him. The only camera that could be an alternative would be Panasonic S1H, FF, IBIS, high-spec codec, but it has no full-frame 4K/60fps and its video AF is pretty unusable in practice because of the errant and erratic pumping and hunting that jumps in when you don't or least expect it.

Ahh yea that was a nice part of the fs5, they should definitely consider that since the fs5 had it. 16 bit is a huge jump but makes the rig quite heavy. I’ll probably make a decision after they release a competitor to the S1H. Hopefully first half of 2020

Which is fine for 99.99% of users. The downsampling lends itself to more accurate colors as well.
