Glad to know you chose Wooden Ships. It is also a favorite of mine. Ironically I found your video just days after we lost David Crosby.

My understanding is that they had been using a particular tape stock that either ran out or somehow ceased being produced. Meaning the newer version is not quite as good. All I know for sure is they stopped making Maxell UR's for Europe and you can only as of 2022 get them in Japan. Perhaps wherever they are sourcing it from is just not as good. A very detailed test. Would love to have heard the comparisons when you toggled between the sources. The best type 1 new tape I have tried is the RTM Fox and even it is not quite as good as the older tape. Getting there but not yet.

I didn’t know there were other makes of cassette tapes currently in production. I hadn’t heard of RTM Fox; where did you buy them? Certainly, the only brand new tapes I’ve seen recently in Japan are these Maxells in different lengths as I’ve mentioned in the videos. I’m always on the look out here in Japan and will post on my channel here the moment I find anything. Regarding these current Maxells, I’d really appreciate any further reading on the matter if you can recommend something such as via a link here. Thanks for your comment and feedback; it’s really encouraging and compels me to make more content.

I just got to the part where you were asking about the original album. I have two copies on vinyl and did buy it when it first came out. They all sounded amazing. Extremely well engineered and recorded. I didn’t know if it was KZbin’s compression but it did sound really dull. Try to find an original on vinyl.

There is no reason screw around with tapes or vinyl when superior format available!
