Thank you for this video. Firstly, I would like to say that Pioneer is my number one audio/video brand and I have over the years owned a few different machines of theirs. I now have a hi-fi tower, which is all Pioneer - turntable, double cassette deck, 6 disc multi-changer, a minidisc deck, and even a CD recorder which is a 3 disc changer and single disc recording deck and of course the Dolby Pro-logic receiver all Pioneer. I even have an audio timer connected to it too, which is as you guessed Pioneer, not to mention that I have a Pioneer DAP/Digital Audio Player and Pioneer bluetooth headphones, a BluRay DVD player and a DVD recorder/HDD recorder but I have yet to own a DAT deck. I only knew about them a few years ago. I had heard of DAT but didn't know what it were until watching KZbin videos. Your insight into the world of DAT that you explain so well to me when showing off your incredible machine is just entertaining and I hope you won't be offended if I say that you have a lovely (and can I say sexy) voice, which I also find entertaining, soothing and relaxing. It's not just how it sounds it is also the way you speak. You sound like a very sincere and decent easy going guy and apart from your voice I loved the video. I think I could watch anything that you are commenting on just for your voice. I'm sorry. I don't mean to sound inappropriate I just wanted to pay you a compliment. Thank you again for the video. I hope to see a follow up video i.e. where you turn the machine on.

Without bias adjustment it is very unlikely that a good recording can be made. Your deck does not look having either auto or manual calibration. The cassette is more than good, if done properly. Dolby must be used (preferably type C) to reduce hiss.

Tampoco hay diferencia aunque hayan sido usado más de 100 veces los MD. Recomiendo siempre usar la conexión coaxial, tiene más ancho de banda. Y al amplificador por rca análogo

How and why can you not like Dolby B & C (and S, if you can get it) noise reduction. You mentioned a lot of hiss, so it boggles MY mind how you can not want to you it. With my Onkyo TA-2700, along with Dolby C, using a Type II (and especially a Type IV) tape, I have to say that I can pretty closely copy a CD.

Hi! Just want to thank you for this in-depth video. I know nothing about these machines, so why did I find your video? My dad used to be a bass player (musician) and sound engineer (idk if that’s what it’s called) for radio and television. He’s getting old (70) and he’s got a lot of these machines, I want to be able to preserve them once he’s no longer with us. But these machines haven’t been used in over 15 years and I don’t even know if they work. So that’s why I thank you for your video, I’m not ready to test these machines (I wouldn’t even know how to) but your informative video lets me know, once I get my hands on them, I might have a chance of getting them to work and be able to listen to my dads vintage collection of cassettes, vinyls and CD’s.

16:20 “there’s no way that pops out that easily” I literally just did what you did and that thing came out smooth as butter. What the hell? These machines are making me exited about cleaning them 😭 I can actually get behind that glass and clean it neat? Thank you for the video! I cannot thank you enough

Clearly a pure Sony product, just rebadged at Onkyo. Case in point: the speaker connectors. I have a (slightly earlier) Sony system that came with the exact same connectors. Thankfully mine came with the (miserable) original speakers, so I could simply cut the wires and put clamps (for lack of a better word) on them and use other speakers. I have also seen those connecors on other Sony products (like A/V receivers). Interesting info on dishonesty of some Japanese sellers btw. I always got a different impression from other videos, so I thought it might be worth it buying some stuff from JP (even though the cost of shipping to Europe is quite high)
@summerrr19 ай бұрын
It’s possible, but why would Sony license designs to Onkyo?
@theol10449 ай бұрын
@@summerrr1 Sony has been a supplier of parts, notably CD and MD drives, but also microchips and other electronic parts, for many other companies over many years, and Onkyo was the only 3rd party to go along with Hi-MD, so why not build the whole thing for them?

the reason why those have more hiss is the more close to the 2000´s they were released the worst they become but one as to have the deck demagnetised and using good belts, your system is great but maybe not so good with type I cheap cassettes , the grey casing maxells put out of tune any deck, i had restored a SONY TC-K920QS ,the same as the old TC-K611S, i have only recorded there two maxells c 90 XLII with those light grey casings for two monthes no problem after some times the sound decreases it´s quality at after a few seconds of playing them, but i made it as a test as i have better cassettes that were ofered when no one was using them and better decks, well i have a big colection of high-end decks, i had a 555ES from 87 and it was a great sony deck

i have very good decks and the UR i record them today from difrerent years and sound perfect,if the deck iosn´t a very good one might not sound that good o0r if it isn´t tuned or with tired belts, have lot´s of SA-x from tdk and sony UX-pro but i´ve been using the tdk D ,AD, AD-x and maxell UR also the black casing XLI-S, type I was always my favorite ones, it cames from the use of reel decks that only recorded ferric tapes but with a higher quality not possible with decks but each knows what´s better for his system

I have Onkyo FR-71A which is for Japan market. I have it running in UK, on 110V of course. The sound output is too loud and. Volume know is only 5% rotated and the level bars are going into the red. Do you know how to adjust sound output setup?

I'm in the USA and I have a ONKYO FR-X7A arriving in post from Japan and I purchased a step-down transformer so I could provide it with 100V electricity. Maybe the 110V is causing it to be too loud?
@barrygreen99187 ай бұрын
@@SeanFlaherty The user "Recording Level" setting is the solution. Page 40 of the manual. Set mine to -5dB and it's now perfect. I purchased my FR-X7A from Japan also. It is only available as 100/110v so you should not need a stepdown transformer. I am in the UK so I made my own stepdown from 240v to 100v. If you do use a transformer then make sure it is a torroidal type. The cheaper types hum like mad.

Hi I like your set up I have the Sony MD JB-930 single 1998 & the Marantz 607 CD player with the Marantz NR1200 amp & the Dali Opticon 2 MK2 speakers with the Dali E9F sub so a great sound experience, and I love my Mini Disc deck I still go to the Labrery to rent CD’s & then record them on my Sony MD machine and I also enjoy the experience like you I also recorded quite a few vinyl albums on to MD by analogue way I have over 300 MD recordings some compilations I made but mostly albums I also recorded all my Beatles vinyl albums of course I do also have a nice CD collection & yes there is a slight difference in sound quality but still a very good hifi sound I get from my MD recordings, my hifi is the same silver colour as yours except my MD deck is black but still a fantastic piece of hifi equipment that keeps on going that’s over 20 years old, as vinyl’s have made a big comeback & CDs are making a comeback I really hope Mini Disc’s will make a return as it sounds so much better than streaming services as well as CD’s, sorry for my long text anyway peace ✌️ and thank you for reading this.

I just recorded on to an identical tape. I set the level to peak at +3 and it sounds phenomenal for what is by today's standards, a cheap tape. I did use Dolby B. I don't usually like Dolby but on my new deck it sounds great, without making playback sound muddy. I wasn't expecting such great results to be perfectly honest, but I will definitely pick up some more of these cassettes!

Hi! Late to the party, but the Intec 275 series were released in Europe indeed, at least in Germany. That's where i bought my A-933, C-733 and T-433 years ago. Still working just fine. The MD-133 was only released in Japan, had to get one there along with a 240 to 100 volt transformer. It still works but it's struggling a bit with Hi-MD recordings, now... Regular MD still play correctly. Cheers mate :D
