Such wisdom: fit bread-baking into the rhythm of your family life or you won’t bake bread. Very nice bread bakers. The bread looked beautiful!!!

I definitely think it is important, if you are going to approach baking your own bread or really doing most things from scratch, you need to find the rhythm that works for you and yours, trying to fit someone elses rhythm into your lifestyle is just going to make it seem all too difficult!

I love, love, love a good sale! It looks like your new cast ware will be multi-purpose as you should be able to use the top and/or bottom as vessels for cooking, baking, stewing, frying. GREAT PURCHASE, Nyssa.

you could stitch some cloth grips designed to slide over the edges of cast iron ends or purchase silicone grips for your batard pans. I have cloth grips for one of my pots and it's a game changer for removing it from the oven or balancing while serving, etc. Because it has quite some weight too it, you could even look into making a double pocket oven mitt or picking one up from kmart

Have you ever done it over a fire during burn offs? At the end of winter we do burn offs. Not big ones as our block is tiny. But once everything is tried we do mini firepit burns offs and roast marshmallows whilst the bandicoots sit around us enjoying the fire too. I feel like we should be using this time more efficiently. Even more so when the smoke keeps the mozzies away 😆
@OurSmallFootprint11 ай бұрын
We used to do a bit of a burn around Apollo's birthday, a bit of a celebration type thing, but lately we haven't been doing much in the way of burnoffs at all, the weather is so unpredictable and with Just D and I and all the kids we hesitate, I know it is good to get rid of excess fuel by burning off some of it, but we don't have much in the way of cleared space to do it and the effort of bringing it all to that spot.. urgh lol. I do make the bread in the wood stove though! But its not in prime position atm, another reason why we need to get the kitchen sorted! :D

I've had many many iterations over the years, the bakers have given me some great results compared to what I used to do! I've been really impressed with them, but in the end, I think its just perseverance, and making one loaf at a time, it might take just that little bit longer hehe. There are some perks to having to make so much food, I improve faster! lol

Lovely looking bread - I bake sourdough bread but also use breadmaker to make the dough if I don't have enough time for sourdough. I use my cast iron pots (Dutch oven) to bake my sourdough as I have round one and a oval one. My sourdough starter works better if I feed it rye flour but I use just bread flour to make the actual dough. Petra (Tony's wife)

I loved this , came at the right time for me . That’s my problem no rhythm I just get impatient and wonder why I’m trying so hard, plus not a lot of encouragement from the husband , so I feel like I’ve failed before I get started . Anyway I’m trying this again and I’ll let you know if my husband shows up on your doorstep you will know. Lol , he knows how to process chickens gs

Hehe, yes, you need to work it in so its just another task, within your day! and your end result bread might be different to what I want my end result to be! I am lucky though, Darryl does love my sourdough hehe, sometimes he requests a change from loaves, for like bagels or something, but in general, he'd be happy to eat my bread every day lol.

That bread looked amazing! I'm imagining the crunch of the bread, especially if spread with butter! I'm still working out our pizza oven with regards to temperature . It's too hot when the fire is blazing, but also cools down quickly, especially if the weather temperature drops quickly. Cooka a mean roast lamb and baked veg though.

Beautiful loaves of bread. How many times a week do you have to do the process? They remind me of asiago loaves I used to get in the states.
@OurSmallFootprint11 ай бұрын
At the moment, because I only bake two loaves at a time, it's normally about every 3rd day, we can easily eat an entire loaf between the 8 of us in one meal, but I like to intermix other types of bread in there too, some focaccia, some flat breads etc.
@annelefevre945711 ай бұрын
Is there a reason you don’t use your Kitchen Aid stand mixer to mix your bread?
@OurSmallFootprint11 ай бұрын
I use it for enriched doughs, or yeasted doughs, but for sourdough, I prefer the result from the every half hour folding, it just seems to have a better end result :D I definitely use my kitchenaid for things like pizza dough, and my bagel dough and my flatbreads, burger buns etc etc.
