Correctly throwing a shot is holding disc back. It’s hard! I’m an 850 player, have played hundreds of rounds, and the number of “correct” throws I’ve had where the disc rips out of my hand is maybe a dozen. Out of 10s of thousands of throws. A majority of people who play this game have terrible form (me included) and may never in their life throw a true disc shot. Factor in water hazards and crowds and these are all factors in what holds disc back.
