I'm so ready for your glow up. Great stuff. Reading Lefebvre "The Production of Space" for fun now and hope one day you'll cover it.

So excited you’ve gotten such a lovely teaching position, David! Your lectures have been a key part of my intellectual journey and have helped get me into gender theory, postmodernism, critical theory, and postcolonial studies. I can’t say I’d be who I am intellectually or personally without your presence here on the internet, so thank you :)

Hi, I love your channel, it is by far my preferred channel when I try to navigate the amount of frameworks and concepts I need to conceptualize for my Ma degree in cultural anthropology😅 I am interested in Polanyi’s take on commodification and exploitation in contrast to those of Marx’s. Have you considered covering him on your channel? Excuse me if it is already mentioned somewhere and I missed it! Thanks!

First of all, thank you for your amazing videos, they have been very helpful for my research proposal for PhD. I have a request, please cover Alfred Schutz his phenomenology and his seminal work 'The Phenomenology of the Social World'.

Hi David, fantastic channel btw. I was curious to know whether you're planning on making videos on Bernard Stiegler's Technic and Time, and The Neganthropocene.

Howdy. In the past you have covered some of Judith Butler's work. Somehow through conversation and media consumption, was involved in a conversation about *The Zone of Interest* and *The White Ribbon* that ended up to a minor extent involving Hannah Arendt and Siegfried Kracauer. Heavy subject matter but didn't get very technically rigorous, constructive nonetheless (imo). Somehow the conversation started to focus on cognitive dissonance (or surprising lacks thereof) and it occurred to me that I had heard someone mentioning that in Judith Butler's *Who's Afraid of Gender* they discuss what is called a phantasm... I am ignorant on this topic, less so on Judith Butler (but not an expert by any means). I received the idea that a phantasm was a sort of mental phenomenon that somehow and in some way provides a form of "shelter" from cognitive dissonance. I don't know if my description is accurate, but the concept seemed presented as an intriguing tool for understanding contemporary social discourse. I feel like I am reading 20 texts at once, I'd like to get to more Judith Butler, but I guarantee my state library system isn't going to be making this available very soon. If you've read it and find covering this aspect as sympathetic to your overall project, I would appreciate it. I found your work in this forum while trying to learn in order to read Deleuze and Guattari (which is going slow but fairly well, partly in thanks to your analysis/synopsis of A Thousand Plateaus). Thanks for your help whichever direction your critical lens turns next.

Dive into Anti-Oedipus my friend! Provided you have a moderate understanding of phenomenology and maybe some Freud, you’ll be cooking! I’ve done an Anti-Oedipus Primer three-video series on my channel aimed at helping those in a situation you seem to be in (prepping for the daunting task of reading D&G) and I think it’ll help give you some confidence to just jump in the deep end!

@@gavinyoung-philosophy Thanks for the advice. I started with Kafka: Toward a Minor Literature (which was great) and am 1/3 of the way through Anti-Oedipus (which is also great with plenty of Freud and less Lacan behind me... I am learning, which is the project, at present and always).

Love your work…in one of your Baudrillard videos you said you’ve moved beyond his theories, could you to elaborate on that?

I’d be interested in that too. I’ve always wondered what David’s attitude is to him now and how it’s changed.

@@gavinyoung-philosophy From what I've seen of his summarizing of Jean Baudrillard, he doesn't understand him. He seems to think his discussions of why terrible things happen was justifying them. It's not an uncommon misinterpretation. Also, Baudrillard was a huge opponent of critical theory, or to be more precise the philosophy it came from. So, it's not exactly surprising given his teaching post.

@@anotherjewishsharpnicholas9425 Eh, Baudrillard does to an extent justify terrorizing for example by romanticizing (if we can use that term) the symbolic dimension of violence and turns it into a purely theoretical question of outdoing the limits in an attempt to seduce and overturn.

@@gavinyoung-philosophy Baudrillard never lost time justifying anything. He just observed how any system approaching perfection by totalization is exposed to the power of reversibility through the unpredictable. This is what Taleb called Black Swans, 30 years later in his book. Terrorism (term used by the system) is just a form among many others (natural disasters, pandemics...) to describe how overprotected systems secrete their own internal virulence. Baudrillard secretly suffered living in a world dominated by a nihilistic elite. What is deplorable is that people often misinterpreted him as such.
