For those who may want to go deeper into the artistry of this genius, Partch's book "Genesis of a Music", is an account of his life's work in his own words. That 1958 edition of "The Bewitched" seems to be kind of a treasure, isn't it? Greetings from Portugal.

Hey Alex from Motorik to Marimba. 🙂 Wonderful wormhole to fall into. One of my favorite things by him as much as the music is a video on YT of him making rose petal jam. Thanks for sharing. -Carm

yes, it's quite an entertaining video, hard to know if it's an act, he's high as a kite or losing his mind (or all three at once).

@@diamond_marimba Ha, well I'm guessing it was really just him by nature. I remember somebody being interviewed in a documentary about him saying something to the effect "I didn't consider Harry to be eccentric...most people I know are eccentric. Harry was an original."

Alex, good luck with the new name. Any of those Gate 5 releases would be desirable. Michael Valentini was surprised that I had no Harry Partch, at some point. I have since changed that but much more to explore. Looking forward to the VC meet-up video. Thanks, Chris

Chris, the Bridge label released at least 2 volumes of Harry Partch music, they are only issued on cd.

Cool name change, Alex. It's good to change thing up from time-to-time The Harry Partch is new; can music sound both new and intriguing, and yet still sound familiar. I like concept of music as ritual and ceremony. In many ways that seems to be the very origins of music. Man's attempt at dialogue with the gods (so to speak). Or a language with the spiritual. Always enjoy your videos. Cheers! Shawn

"a language with the spiritual" ... Quite insightful Shawn, in that context i usually end up coming back to Psychic TV's "Themes".

I wondered why l was getting notifications of an unknown channel. Cool reasoning behind the new name. I don't suppose it matters. I'll have to try and track down that album.

Congratulations on the new channel name. Wow, Harry made up his own music system! He sounds like he was totally committed to his vision. I'm a fan of the Baja Marimba Band....would be awesome to see them incorporate that bass marimba into their band.

hey randy, don't think I know that band. yeah check out footage of the bass marimba, it's quite a beast goes down to 30 Hz or so.

@@diamond_marimba I listened to a few bass marimba samples on KZbin videos. At first I listened thru my laptop speakers, but then I listened thru my Beats by Dré earbuds and wow! what a difference. You can't even really hear it thru the laptop speakers.

I am digging the new name Alex. My dad graduated from MIT in Boston. I remember a friend of his giving my dad something that had to do with Harry Partch. It may have been a book or an essay. I have never heard any of his music. Where do I start? I will looking for some new diamond_marimba posts~ Rob/Boston

Alex, '' Diamond Marimba'' evokes the culture of California, ''Motorik247'' evokes the culture of Dusseldorf. So now you are more geographically accurate in describing your current situation. Harry Partch was a ''Rugged Individualist'', he carved out his own Path and was really ''plugged'' into The Old, Weird America cultural reservoir. John Fahey is quite similiar to Harry Partch, blending many elements into a unique sound -world that is totally his own and instantly recognized by listeners.

One of those characters one bumps into and finds it hard to assess. 'arry, to use the English pronunciation, often struck me as all concept, no content, in that his sounds could be a struggle to tolerate, or penetrate into.
