Alex, I dig the groovy vapor trails, they dance nicely with the music. 1967 was an amazing year for anyone who had two ears.

I don't know what I would have thought of this music in 1967, the year I turned 17, but I was definitely ready for "A Rainbow in Curved Air," when it came out early in 1969. I heard it on late night FM radio, and made a bee line for the record store, that was right across the street from the college dorm where I lived, on the north side of Chicago, and bought the copy that I still have, and cherish. I'd not done the digging that would have brought me to this album, so I'm glad that The Algorithm brought me here, to be educated! Thanks for doing the homework, and sharing the results! I've subscribed, so you may just see me again in the comments section! All the best!

@@diamond_marimba Loyola, on the lake shore in Rogers Park. A hundred yards north of the El station. I remember being stunned by the presence of several Frank Lloyd Wright homes a few blocks north of there. My family had lived at Armitage and Cicero when I was born, but moved away in 1960, when my dad’s company did the “promotion and transfer” thing.

That is a fantastic find, Alex. Probably the cleanest copy in existence, too! You inspired me to pull out my Music For The Gift CD on Cortical. It has 4 recordings from 1960 to 1965: The Gift, Bird Of Paradise, Mescalin Mix and Concert For Two Pianos And Five Tape Recorders (with La Monte Young). Each are very interesting works and show Terry's progress towards the sound on Reed Streams and beyond. Thanks for sharing what must be one of the jewels in your already fine collection. It was a pleasure to see and hear it.

An album I've never seen except in photos. You ARE very lucky. I saw him once at The Exploritorium in San Francisco. It was in a small room and we were in the first row. That was in the 80's.

@@diamond_marimba Like a portable synth. I'm terrible about naming just what it was. He had programmed music and improvised on top of it. That's how I remember it anyway. My wife might remember better than me. 40 years is making things blurry.

Interesting you mention the potential for gassing due to the silkscreen... as that is exactly what happened to the copy I had. Congrats on sourcing a good copy.
@StuntrockConfusion10 ай бұрын
My first copy of it came sealed, in this heavy but soft PVC sleeve. That's what caused the off gasing. Thankfully, even if it looks bad on hte record, it plays great, which is not hte case. of most records I have that experienced similar damage. At least, the cover was literally new, mint. So cool Alex got his!
