For the purposes of informing anyone who is watching/has watched this video, and of course, the keepers of these hens, this is absolutely NOT the correct way of introducing new hens to an existing flock, particularly when the existing flock consists of mature hens and the new hens are significantly outnumbered. What has happened here, is actually, downright cruel!
@lennie50513 жыл бұрын
Correct. But what is the right way? I usually put the newcomer chicken in a cage the size of the pen..
@LeoTheYuty Жыл бұрын
@@lennie5051 I'd definitely say separating them with a fence or cage is the best idea, allowing them to see each other.

Hi. Even though your coop looks quite cozy and safe, I think it is not spacious enough for so many chickens.

Introducing new hens is difficult the more room you have the better in my experience it takes about two weeks for things to calm down and the pecking order to be established you tend to find that the old last in the pecking order hen is the most aggressive toward the new comer just keep a close eye on what is going on ,there will be aggression this is natural but if the new hen bleeds remove it and put it in a temporary pen with just chicken wire to separate them until the wound has heeled
@agathadolan3626 жыл бұрын
U should always introduce new chickens slowly like with a fence between them for a few days at least til the flock gets used to the new chickens. It’s always best to have them separated until the existing flock accepts the new chickens.
@alexd942511 ай бұрын
I agree. This prevents unwanted stress and fights among the flock as they establish a new pecking order.

I know everyone has there own way to introduce new hens in to a flock. And yes they have a pecking order just as any animal would. I have had great results introducing new hens and night. They end up sleeping together which makes a difference, instead of just putting them into your pen. I feel that is a Bad call and definitely asking for trouble!!! Just Say'n!!!!

hardcore hunter I don't know who you are calling a BITCH.But I sure hope that's not Me. That just shows how petty you are and how disrespectful you can be. If you don't want people to make comments on your videos I suggest you don't post your videos. We all find that KZbin is very useful tool and we all learn from other people's videos so all of us out in the chicken world are learning from one another whether it's good decisions or bad decisions. So it's a shame that you are so petty that you have to stoop to the level to call someone ugly names

@@caweinbender1 Yes Ma'am folks leave comments to learn from each other also but name calling helps knowone I have tried both ways and i found out the new chickens need room to hide as well and slowly work there way back in Broody hens as well have to earn there spot again . This is a good video and your comment is something to try as well Thank you

That's not how you add new chicken to a coop, you should of had a separate area for them but make it so they can see each other, and then give them time to get use to each other then put them together, even then you have to keep an eye on them so you don't have to much aggregation or even having your chickens killed. That is cruel putting them together like that. It's like watching a cockfighting. So wrong
@TruthFirst0055 жыл бұрын
But yet, you just said, even after a slow introduction you need to keep an eye on them? I bet in either circumstance there could be a bad or good outcome. Even slow introductions can have some serious fighting 3 weeks later.
@urbanrat844 жыл бұрын
They do this to each other regardless so keeping them separate just delays them sorting out who's where in the pecking order. This was supervised and they were not too stressed, eating, the odd peck or getting out of the way. Pretty uneventful

What happens if the old chicken is laying eggs daily and I introduce her to a new hen? I have a small area with a hen and a rooster only. Then hen lays eggs daily. I am unsure about putting the new hen in with the two because I fear they might fight. Any advice? Thanks :)
@RavishingEddie9 жыл бұрын
If you have a rooster then they will not fight as much. Usually when you have a rooster he will put things in control. I have a rooster that kicks both hens and puts them in their place if they start fighting in front of him.

technically it would be best. you are supposed to remove the bully hen if the behavior continues and gets worse. after few days they should be ok, but depending on severity may need to be longer. takes two fucking seconds to look this up. and also there is better ways to introduce chickens I dont even have to fking own one, again takes two 2nds to research with this magical thing called google.
