Sit with me for a light discussion on the new Civivi Vision FG. I discuss my impressions after a few days of carrying and compare its similarities with the Demko Sharklock.

After another day I still get a few thumb stud fails here and there but nothing major. Only reason it kinda gets to me is that I have several knives that I have NEVER thumb stud failed, so I feel if it was just a bit further from the handle it would be perfect. Personally, a version with a hole instead of the stud would be amazing! I am really enjoying everything else about the knife, and I highly recommend picking one up!

So if you take a more relaxed grip with it, and pick it up off a table you'll be more prone to the types of failures you're seeing. Both you and I have a natural grip that causes our index finger to stop the travel even. If you hold it with the butt of the handle higher into your palm you'll have a much lower fail rate but that grip doesn't feel natural or quick. Lower for the stud would also work better for us

@DillonNunley-wm8cd It is great! I really like the knife. Thumbstuds working much better after a slight adjustment, and it is definitely one of my favorites with the Superlock action!

I have had the Vision FG for two days. I have no problems with the thumb studs with either the thumb or reverse flick. I have never handled a Demko so I can’t compare but I’m loving the Vision FG.

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I am as well. The thumb studs are not really that bad, but it was hard to find anything wrong with it. It is pretty awesome. As for the Demko, it is really a great knife all around as well. Highly recommend both!

I love my CIVIVI Vision FG so much I bought a second one, being ambidextrous, so I can dual-wield. Only knife I've done that with (though I came close with the Kershaw Iridium). A fantastically fun and functional EDC! Thanks for the vid :)

Hey there, fellow southpaw here. Haven’t had any issues with my vision fg, have had it for about 4 months now I got the jade g10 with nitro v. Been a big spyderco guy off and on so middle finger flick for me is dialed in and I have no problem flicking the stud from the opposite side. I find it’s easiest to index my thumb to the hole in the scale closest to the pivot to get extra grip for middle finger flicks or I index my middle finger there on the opposite side for thumb flicks. I love the operation of the super lock it’s really friendly for us lefty folks. Been looking at the 20.5 but the price along with it still also being overseas produced has stopped me from purchasing yet but it’s on my short list for sure, spent my 20.5 money on the kershaw bel air instead and it’s been amazing so far, it replaced the vision fg in my left pocket for edc even though it’s not quite as satisfying for fidgeting, especially the sound the vision makes I love the click sound of the vision super satisfying. I really wanna give magnacut a good test drive so the bel air took over.

I've had my Vision FG for a few months, and got my 1st AD20.5 almost 2 weeks ago. 2 of my favorite knives in my collection for sure. I LOVE the mechanical clicking from both. I can't decide yet which I prefer, which is a pretty big complement for the Civivi at a fraction of the price you pay for even the AUS10A/FRN version. Really stoked for Christmas, though, cuz my daughter ordered the 3V Tanto DLT exclusive as part of their BOGO deal (she gave me the AUS10A Sharkfoot already, just waiting on 3v now)!

The clicky sounds are great on both. They are both awesome for different, and also similar reasons, couldn't part with either! Sounds like Christmas will be great! Thanks for sharing!

Rather than the studs being a farther away, a simple solution would have been to to scallop out the G10 scales on both sides where the index finger grips the handle which would serve to both index your grip and provide clearance getting to the thumb studs.

I agree. That extra cut would help. Replace the stud with a hole....now you're talkin!

The action on mine is completely different now! It broke in and is now really smooth and much easier to pop open. Great knife!

For sure! This video is from a ways back, but at this point, I really love both of these knives! Fantastic. Demko is probably my favorite to fidget with, and the clicky sounds are perfect. I hope to one day have a better steel blade and titanium version! The Vision FG is just a win all around. Still holds the spot on my banner of my channel! I am glad I could give you some 1st hand insight.

I think the clicking sounds mechanical and uniform. Reminds me of a handgun or a typewriter. It’s audible feedback and I dig it.

i just recieved my micarta vision today and i friggin love it!! the sound it produces is like music to my ears. feels premium, i think civivi could have charged more so im happy they have the knife at this price. its solid, its fun!! thanks for the video... i am looking for some scales though...

I agree the studs are tight , they could of put them forward a bit and it would have helped some. I own a demko ad20.5 Ti linerless in 3v and I love the knife especially the 3v steel but the vision fg is a better design, better detent, and feels somehow more solid than the ad 20.5 and it was a fraction of the price. My only gripes is the pocket clip position and the weight is a little heavy even when compared to my Ti ad 20.5 . If I had to choose between the two it would be hard.

I appreciate the input. As time goes by, my Vision breaks in a bit more, and now it's just super smooth and fantastic. I love both knives! I'm considering getting a Flytanium Arcade since it has a Sharklock

Honestly they are near identical as far as ease of operation. I think the Civivi Gimping feels nicer, but I think the clickyness of the Demko is better. Eventually you want them both!

This knife is a banger. Absolutely love the acoustics. Sounds and feels amazing. Agree about thumbstuds. Gimme a little space to be able to flick it open.

That's weird you're having that issue with the thumbstuds. I've been fidgeting with mine for two days straight and it never even entered my mind that there was any difficulty accessing the studs--with either my thumb or my middle finger. Not an issue for me at all. They are pretty close but it hasn't bothered me at all, and I have kinda fat fingers. I'll agree that the lock can wear on your index finger to operate a lot. I actually took the very tip off of my index finger a couple years ago in a minor carpentry accident, so it's a little more sensitive than it used to be. 😂 I have been using my middle finger to operate the lock half the time.

I suppose each hand is different. I definitely don't use thumb studs as much, but a few I have snap out easy and flawless every time, so comparatively, this thumb stud is not as good for me. I still love the knife. If they make a thumb hole version, I'm in for sure!

Received mine a few days ago and have been carrying it everyday. Have similar issues with thumb stud deployment. But figure I will get used to it. Love the knife, hate the belt clip.

I have that exact one. I’m curious if the blade tang will take damage over time & change the action. I’m not comfortable with it sticking out all the time. On the Demko, it’s in the handle like it should be

I doubt hardened steel is going to have a problem unless you are throwing it onto rocks.

@@tgonzalez1983 You make some good points. Everyone treats things differently, and some will drop it more than others. I also find that I don't put things in a pocket with a knife if they will rub against each other, but that is not always an option

Knives like this, Fidgeters, I tend to just use the Lock-Bar to lock and unlock and to deploy and return to it's folded position. I hardly ever would use the Thumbstuds. That looks like a very cool CIVIVI. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

Civivi Vision FG is a great knife a bit thicc but if they did another version would make it thinner and make it a flipper frame lock super lock is cool but if you like to fidget it will get to your finger you have to dig in to it to close

Those shark lock Demko knives are incredibly boring to me. It's not the lock, it's the design. The Vision FG is a bit ostentatious but it's nearly half the price and it isn't boring. I agree that the Vision's thumb studs don't flip open well with the thumb. However I think it's great for reverse spidey flicking, and that's what I like to do.

1. The lock bar sticks up and out. That's a bit concerning. 2. The thumb studs are in to close to the frame and scales. I suspect they was trying to make the blade less wide for better design, more streamlined. 3. The holes on the scales and frame is an obvious crkt m16 rip off. 4. The clip is off to the side. It wont clip in and sit well in the pocket. 5. A lot of the design features are for weight savings too. The locking mechanism added significant weight to the knife.

I have no problem with the thumb studs and I have large hands. Spidey flicking is a little difficult to learn on this particular knife at first but I figured it out. I've had it for about a week. I hated the pocket clip so I switched it out with a civivi milled titanium pocket clip I found on Amazon and it looks so much better and gives better ergonomics, not to mention the one that came with was complete garbage and bent within two days of going in and out of my pocket
