As a Patron, we get to see these videos earlier then they’re released on KZbin. What I compliment Maya on is, while we get to see these videos early, she goes the extra mile to further develop them from their Patreon preview before they are posted here for the YT public. When you become a Patron, not only will you get early video insights to their projects and their travels, but these two creators go beyond what other channels do so watching the public video is as worthwhile and entertaining an experience as the Patreon videos they share with their supporters. Their videos here are on YT are not simply a repeat as so many other channels do. Aladino brings expert craftsmanship and detailed shipbuilding artistry to this team and Maya brings expert videography and storytelling creativity (as well as sweat equity and musical flair) to this effusive duo. I applaud them both for truly being one of the best channels on KZbin and would highly recommend fellow viewers become supporters of this dynamic couple.

#1 One important thing when working in a hazardous environment is to protect oneself. I must say that I'm a little bit impress of how you both do this. You protect all important intakes; mouth, nose, eyes and ears. All to few of other youtubers do this. #2 How do you solve the ventilation of your gaslocker? Propane travels downwards against the keel...?
@SailingMagicCarpet
@SailingMagicCarpet 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rolf! Boatyards are quite toxic so protection is key:) The propane locker will be a fully glassed top loading hatch with a vent at the very bottom that goes out of the boat via the transom:)

One thing I've noticed on most channels where they do boat work is they almost never talk about proper drainage for water that gets on deck, in the lockers or other places it's not supposed to be. They also don't mention how they prevent water from getting into those places.

I read about a method that I thought was called "trick sticking". 40 years later I found out it was called "tick sticking", which is well documented on the web. A great system for fitting odd-shaped boards into an existing space. I do have to say that Aladino's mock-up of the bulkhead piece was amazing.

The boat is really coming along nicely!! Maya mentioned a future redo on drawers. Something that worked well for me on my past two boats was using strips cut from teflon cutting boards as glide surfaces for drawer runners. Stuff cuts nicely on a table saw and with counter sunk screw heads last forever.

I try to see back into the past and find myself without resources like access to the knowledge base at hand now nor the technology improvements experienced between then and now. I secretly plot out this refit without a hint of love or admiration of the unappealing nature of wood and it's youthful beauty requiring man hours of nurturing. No instead I plot a way as I watch this magnificent hulls' structural elements impose on me. My favorite episode touched on my desire to place much metal into as many places as possible and that mindset began at the deck ever increasingly I now sit with a plasma torch in my left hand watching and occasionally drifting off into multi process welding equipment not to mention sheets of copper stainless and aluminum. I've come a long way since observing Aladino and Maya's affection for details where they seem to appreciate even the quality of the shop vacuum. And I think the best way to summarize my look back is too emphasize always check, test, and verify. My struggle between the limitations of steel vs wood are now merging into even reinstituting plastics wherever and whenever they offer benefits. I shall only be a purist of structural integrity alone and I will love the feel and sound of as many wood elements I can salvage.

There's something oddly satisfying about ripping out material that has been installed incorrectly or that just plain looks bad. That was a lot of work, but it appears you now have a more solid, and much better, base to build up from moving forward. It was nice to see that the inside work resulted in revealing some cork that wasn't rotted, which makes your jobs a little easier. You both do very nice work and it's fun to watch the progress as you rebuild and refit your future home on the water. In a few weeks, we will be departing our home of 21+ years (it's sold) and spending all our time in a 43 foot Fifth Wheel RV. Hopefully I can still get reasonable access to the internet to continue watching your progress.

Kind of surprised you aren't melding the old with the new and going for a LiFePo battery setup with inverter to run a small induction stove. No issues with trying to fill bottles that have different fittings the world over. Assuming you will be installing some sort of solar array and a high output alternator. This seems to be the trend for many live aboards.

I added 20% styren to the polyester when I glassed the deck on a mahoany boat I owned in the early 80s. I worked a treat. That was a trisk I learned from I guy that started building fibreglass boats in the 50s. Believ it was osome of the first of it's kind built in Norway. As you probably know Aladine the styren slows down the curing process and allow the polyester to grab into the wood before curing. Love to see how good the results that comes from both you boat builder and assistant.

When designing your new cockpit don't loose sight that there is only one proper width for a proper offshore boat of this size. When you are heeled and going to weather your feet need to be braced on the front of the seat and your butt braced against the bottom of the opposite coaming . The footwell on most Cape Georges is too wide as is the case on most boats. The bathtub style coaming that Bob Lange liked to build almost never meet these criteria. Fortunately you folks have about the same leg length, so it should be possible to choose the ideal compromise. ps: Balsa core installed with resin infusion Never rots or de-laminates because every block is completely saturated and encased in resin.
