I love how you’ve made your space so homey and comfortable! I’ve tried to incorporate some special things in my room as well. I have a small painting I purchased from a friend of a giraffe, a favorite animal of mine, some special pieces that I’ve collected that bring me joy. I have an old typeset drawer full of my collection of thimbles and a few small trinkets as well! It makes my space personal and reminds me of what I love! Thanks for sharing your way of displaying your things. I love the great stuff you acquired from your stamp guy! How fun is that!

My husband and I were newlyweds stationed in Germany (and expecting our first child) when they switched to the Euro. It did definitely make travel within Europe easier as far as spending money goes. Every once in a while we’ll find the odd Deutsche Mark coin tucked away in a box a memorabilia. This was a fun video and I have a new perspective on what to do with costume jewelry now :)

I like miniatures, anything small. I used to have it all displayed on the wall in printer boxes. My children called it the "I Spy" wall. Today I have it in a glass top coffee table with two drawers. We replaced the glass with plexiglass. The top drawer is visible from above, the bottom drawer pulls out for viewing. My grown children and now grandchildren STILL enjoy playing I Spy. I do add items to it now and again. My youngest son usually spies it ( a grown man with a child of his own 😂). My little hobby is now a fond family thing and I love that! There is also costume jewelry in there!

The onset of the Euro made me want to cry. I love the beauty of currency and the history each country puts into it. I understand the desire for "ease" but I think there was a certain indefinable, intangible something that was lost with this decision.

Wow! What treasures you got! I recently got one of those stamp collector books, I got it bcoz I was inspired by you. I love the airmail envelopes, used to use them for international letters in the 80s, 90s. Should’ve kept some. I’ve got family in San Jose and visited several times in the past, before I got to know about your channel. Would be a dream to meet you/see your “she shed” or a whole tiny home for crafting! I used to have a separate craft room done for that purpose in our MI home and since we moved to GA, the spare room in the basement is slated for it but needs remodeling as it has closet with wire shelves and rest need to be built up. I store my spare stuff, collected craft table/shelves etc for that future room waiting to be finished. In the meantime, I have a good size bedroom upstairs overflowing with craft materials (needs organizing as thrift store finds lately have been a bit too good 😅). Can’t wait to see what you’ll make next. Looking for my local stamp club now 😊

Since the early 1980s, I've kept a lifesize clear plastic ear which I assume was from an anatomy teaching prop. It has all the proper folds, curves, and even a scale earlobe. I love it because it's so surreal. Being in my 60s most of my trinkets are long gone, but I have the first rubber stamp I bought of a triceritops wagging its tail. I've collected and give away hundreds of rubber stamps but not this one -- nostalgia, I guess.

Just for the anecdote... my son was born the day the Euro officially became the European currency. The French government offered 100€ to all the "Euro babies" born the same day as the Euro to celebrate the event! I also could not believe how fast we got used to the Euro! The Franc has long been forgotten! Thanks for sharing your experience with the metric system!
@MargareteMiller2 ай бұрын
OMG, what a special day for you and your son! I was remembering, too, that so many people were complaining before the euro came, saying "We're never going to get used to this!" and within 2 months everyone had switched over like nothing had happened. All that worry for nothing! 🙃
@aprilwicker66112 ай бұрын
I am 73. I don't oppose the metric system, but it is just not intuitive because I didn't grow up with it. It is not ingrained like miles and feet. And the current trend of measuring cooking ingredients in grams rather than volumetric ounces just confuses me. Do I need to go buy another bag of flour, or do I have enough? Who knows! But you did remind me that I need to get out my stamp collection boxes and weed out some of the old stuff that has no collector value and imbue it with art value. Thanks for the video

Good! I'm so glad you're going to pull out some of those materials that don't have collector value, and will use it in your art. I hope you find some fun things to play with! 💜

What makes me smile is a creation that my younger son made with a cardboard roll of toilet paper when he was a child. I still have it on a shelf and it makes me laugh all the time. Regarding the Euro, I was still living in Paris when it happened (I’m French living in L.A.). It was very hard to get used to it, I had to remember all the time that 15 Euros were about 100 Francs. We had the feeling not to have enough money anymore because the incomes were not increasing but the prices increased a lot, especially for the bread, it was insane! It was even worse for my grandmother because she was still counting in ancient francs, so she had to convert from ancient to new francs and from new francs to Euros, it was kind of complicated but we got used to it at a point. The difficulty is chiefly economical: a country can change the value of their money according to the economy necessities. With the Euros, this system was over, it had to be decided at the European level. I remember a friend of mine who was from Croatia, her family there couldn’t afford to buy some bread anymore because the prices went to the roof while their incomes were very low. It was an adjustment for sure. Regarding the miles, I still have to convert them to kilometers to understand a distance, but I use inches every day in my work and weirdly, I am becoming very uncomfortable with the centimeters, we forget with time. Thank you for your video, it was quite interesting.
@MargareteMillerАй бұрын
Wow! Thanks so much for sharing your memories and experiences! In Slovakia, too, there was a big "sticker shock" at the new prices. What you pay in Austria for milk or yogurt shouldn't be what you pay in Slovakia, which has a much lower GDP that many other European countries. It was hard to find the balance. I think a lot of people thought it was going to be much harder to transition than it really was. I'm not saying it wasn't difficult for many, but for most I think they were able to adjust relatively quickly.
