NEW Colored Pearl Cell Recipe & Paint Mixing Demo PLUS Bonus Pour | Acrylic Pour Tutorial

Hello everyone! Today I am doing a tutorial specifically centered on my colored pearl cell recipe. I have been working on this recipe and trying to perfect it for a couple months and even though I don’t have it perfect I am finally ready to show you a step by step tutorial along with how I mix those paints specifically. I go through not only the recipe but very detailed in how I achieve the colored pearl cells. Stick around til the end to see me do a pour demonstrating how I achieve the different colored pearls. I think it turned out pretty cool but I need you guys to let me know in the comments what you think of it. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Materials I used in this demonstration:
2- 12”x12” Traditional Canvas’
Amsterdam: Titanium White
Amsterdam: Turquoise Blue, Turquoise Green, Sky Blue Light,
Pebeo Studios: Iridescent Blue Green
DecoArt Metallics: 24K Gold
Golden Fluids: Payne’s Grey
Art Alchemy: Teal-Blue
Golden GAC 800
Golden Color Pour Medium
US Floetrol
Behr Satin Enamel (untinted deep base)
Colored Pearl Recipe:
4 -6 parts Behr Satin Enamel Deep Base
3 parts US Floetrol
2 parts tube paint or 1 part fluid paint (to tint)
1.5 parts Golden Gloss Color Pouring Medium
Water to thin (approx 4 parts depending on Behr satin enamel ratios)
Pouring Medium for puddle and Dutch pour paints: 50% Floetrol 50% Golden GAC 800
Water to thin consistency
Puddle & Dutch Pour Paints mixed 1 pt paint to 5 pts PM and water to consistency (tube paint approximately 1 part water, fluid paint no water)
No silicone used for cells. It was all the layering of the paints that made those cool effects.

Tara, thank you so much for this very detailed video. Before I found you and watched several of your pours, I had watched a few tutorials but some artists wanted us to join and buy a class to learn this mixing. I don't have that extra $$ that they are asking to show the mixing procedure. Just a few of you do. I truly thank you. I did not have golden pouring medium. I had Floetrol, and was experimenting with ratios, but was not having any luck unless I added a little silicon. I will go buy some golden and I wrote down your amounts. Hi Terri! Thanks so much for your kind words. This is a pearl cell pour and Dutch pour combo. I do list all of my paints and pouring medium on the screen and in the description box in case this isn’t the white u r referring to…I think you are referring to the pour over paint - Amsterdam Titanium White mixed with my pouring medium of 50% Floetrol/50% Golden GAC 800. where do you find the Golden Gloss Color Pouring Medium? The only one I find on Blick is Golden pouring medium gloss. Are they the same thing? This was a good, clear, detailed lesson. I've been using DA SE to do the same. I love the way they come out.

@@PiecesofTaraArtistry Good morning Tara. I made up your recipe yesterday but cut everything in half. Also do not have Gac or any pouring medium except for a couple squirts on Liquitex pm. I got nothing. I used Amsterdam white and Floetrol with water to thin. I have Behr satin enamel deep base untinted interior with primer. I did it 3 x. I'm wondering if it has to be the exact one you have or have you used another? I may keep trying but I may move on to something else. You are a great artist and tutor. Be safe.

I’m sorry you didn’t have success. Amsterdam white might be the problem. If you are going for white pearls my other recipe is better with the artist loft white. Amsterdam paint is heavy so you need more satin enamel to get it to float. What is the recipe you are using for the puddle paint?

She is the originator of the “cloud over” pour and recipe. Her recipes are in her description box. I don’t do the cloud over so I really can’t speak to what it is exactly. I’m so sorry. ❤️🙏🏻☺️

Hi Patricia. I’m not sure exactly what you are saying. I’m a little confused. Are you asking if you can use the Liquitex with the Satin Enamel? If so the answer is yes. You can use either the Liquitex Pouring Medium or the Golden Color Pouring Medium. They can be substituted for each other in this recipe. If that’s not what you mean please clarify. I’m also not sure what that has to do with ventilation. I’m really sorry I’m not sure I’m following you…but I’d like to…☺️

Hi Macska! With this technique you have to have satin enamel in the basecoat and you have to use a pour over color with no satin enamel in it. That is what makes the cool cells. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Thank you so much. Yes the Golden GAC 800 and Golden Gloss Medium can be used interchangeably in this recipe. They are not exactly the same product but react the same and the purpose of the GAC is to help eliminate cracking and crazing. The Golden Gloss Color Medium has those same properties. ❤️☺️🙏🏻

Thank you Milly! I really appreciate your feedback. So as far as the 7050 in white…yes I can use it. You will have to dial back the water to 2 parts approx. and add Artist Loft White. So if you have the 2019 version of the artist loft white you will be ok with the white pearl cell formula of: 3pts Floetrol 2 parts artist loft white 2 parts Behr 7050 white 1.5 parts Gac 800 or Color Pouring Medium ( or 1 pt gac 800 and .5 part Liquitex Pouring medium) If your artist loft paint is 2021 version you will need to mix it half and half with apple barrel white from Walmart. The formula changed for artist loft white and it has not been creating nice pearls so there has been an adjustment to the formula. Recent videos from Sara Taylor and Michelle Galli have explained it and I will refer you to them for the explanation. Hope this helps! ❤️☺️🙏🏻

Wow! Thank you for the detailed explanation! I've heard others (i think it was Tammy) say that GAC800 is Goldens PM - you said you spoke with them, did they say how this PM is different from GAC800?

Thank you so much Julie! Yes, Golden GAC 800 was their first product that was specific to acrylic pouring. Basically they said that the Golden Color Pouring Medium is their improvement on that original product, if that makes sense. They are definitely not the same exact product if you look at them side by side but the company said that the Golden Color Pouring Medium has the same properties in it as the GAC800 plus other benefits. Golden is super great at getting back to you on questions that you may have. I suggest, if you want to know specifics to email them. They usually get back to you right away! ❤️☺️🙏🏻

Wow you use a lot of paint! Looks beautiful though. I was wondering, can I use deco art satin enamel combined with a white paint like Amsterdam and get the same effect?

Hi Roberta! I do use a lot of paint but I always scrape my table and reuse my drippings as a basecoat. It always makes very interesting color combinations. If you watch my latest video you will see I do just that. As far as the DecoArt satin enamel with the Amsterdam…it is possible. I have a how I mix my paints for a white pearls video as well as another video with an experiment with several different whites. You may want to check those out. If you use the Amsterdam white I. The formula you need to add in more of the satin enamel paint. Amsterdam white is very heavy and will keep your cells from forming unless U put in more satin enamel. It’s doable but you have to tweak the recipe a little bit. Hope this is helpful! ❤️🙏🏻☺️

Oh gosh, I feel another question brewing; this is so embarrassing how strung out I can get on this mixing…! But do you think it’s possible to mix up this PM (4 Behr deep base, 3 floetrol, 1.5 gloss color PM ahead as a large batch? Then proportionally take out that which would be about 5 x the amount of colored paint one wants to blend in ( think you recommend 1 colored paint: 5 PM )? Txz again! Jeanne
