I purchased the full set a couple of months ago when first released; obviously, all imperial. Whilst i’m comfortable using either metric or imperial when i started purchasing woodpeckers rules, squares etc a few years ago i had to make a conscious decision on which units to move forward with for both my tools and designs. As i am Australian i chose metric. I really hope you guys will release a full set of metric blades to suit.

@@WoodpeckersLLC Please do a metric version of the new mini combo square! I understand these tools are American-made, and probably primarily catering to the American market, but anytime I see a woodpeckers tool available in imperial only, it's a dealbreaker for me and I turn to Starrett or something else I know I can rely on. I care about precision, and I want my tools to have some absolute physical basis (hence the SI units / metric system, which is calibrated in reference to the speed/wavelength of light in a vacuum).

Nice looking tool. Nice set of new features. But, more than a starrett? Aluminum head? Even anodized, won't last and hold tight like the cast head of the starrett. The holes for the pencil tip is so big the lines will be off by too much for anything but rough carpentry. He mentioned running the line to the end of the board, but watch the video he didn't complete the line, because you can't because of the hole being in the middle of the ruler. The indexing pin idea while clever will wear the pin and hole over time again causing loose connection. Not meant to be critical, just things to consider before your purchase.

For me the most important part of a combo square is the locking mechanism. I have had many squares where the mechanism doesn't hold well, rendering the square useless. Did Woodpecker rethink/re-engineer the locking mechanism? Skipping over that function in both your written and video media is a major oversight. Unless I can be sure that it is highly functional and durable I won't make the purchase.

What is the accuracy of the combination squares? Also, will the six inch blade fit the head for the 12 inch combination square?
@WoodpeckersLLC

Adam, the combination squares are built to the same standard as our fixed blade squares, which is .0085 degrees, or .001" per foot. Since it is adjustable, we do not offer the same lifetime guarantee of accuracy that we offer with the fixed blade squares, but you can rest assured, they start life at the same point. Yes, the 6" blade fits in the combination square head that comes with a 12" blade. 3 blades, 2 heads, everything fits.

I bought this tool and love the repeatability that the Indexable head feature provides. Question: When adjusting to a new indexing hole, I find that the head feels a bit stuck in the last indexed position, preventing me from repositioning the head unless I first wiggle it a bit out of parallel with the blade after releasing the clamping screw. Is this normal technique, or am I doing something wrong, e.g. over-tightening the locking screw when using the indexing pin.

Sounds just like what I've experienced. The fit of the indexing pin is pretty snug. Takes just a little wiggle to get the spring to pop it out.

@@BlackSwan912 I have Woodpecker tools, they are well made for sure. But no one or no company is perfect. I have a tool I bought from them, quite recently actually and it is not a square or a measuring device, which is their mainstay. Upon receiving it I immediately found a design issue that could make it useless to many who bought it. I contacted them, shared photos etc. In about five days I had a re-machined part in hand that corrected the issue. I was told these corrections were made to the production run which was still in progress. This is quite a testament to their support I must say. By the way, it is one damn sweet tool, and you could not pry out of my hands if you tried! So, yes, I will sell you the first one they sent me, got $150??? And this also goes to the point of many claiming that Woodpecker’s tools are just overpriced eye candy and not everyday tools. If a steel way (which Starrett squares use and last a lifetime+) were inset into the body for the blade to ride on it would have addressed any wear issues and would also have allowed for re-squaring as any square that is actually used will eventually need. As it is now, once the body wears, and sooner or later it will, it becomes useless, well as a square anyways.

I Like the tool, but think the slide out "foot" on which to rest the body of the square on the wood, has a minor flaw. If the wood is narrower than the distance from the blade to the "foot" then you have the same problem. Why not (re)design it so that the foot slides out to almost the full height/length of the body. A tapered arrangement designed similar to an adjustable parallel could work. The body should contain a tapered groove and pushing a similar pin moves a matching tapered "foot" causing it to slide out from the body. :-) Great tool I'll consider the metric version when it finally makes it to Australian shores, but over here it will be VERY EXPENSIVE!

I know I'm alone in this and I completely understand the cost. Wish I could afford your stuff. It's too expensive. Hopefully you'll consider a line that's just a little more affordable for us guys and gals starting out in the hobby. Cheers!

Why no metric options - it is only the rules that would need to be changed. Also: Scotch is the drink, Scottish are the people.

You forgot to mention the $170 price tag for the 12”combo square ($650 for the set). I guess I’d be embarrassed to mention that too. No thanks... I’m doing just fine with my $15 antique Stanley I picked up at the flea market.

Checked your website just last week, you had no combination squares for sale. It showed that they had only ever been available as a One Time tool about a year ago, and that was it. That you now sell combo squares is the real news here, if that is in fact the case. What's up?

I don't like combi squares because it seems their angles aren't true. What is it about your square that makes it a reliable and accurate angle every time?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 жыл бұрын
That's why we make a wide range of fixed blade squares, too. For the absolute best precision, a fixed blade is superior to an adjustable square. Adjustable squares are versatile. They can do a variety of jobs and do them with an acceptable degree of accuracy. We did not -- nor would we -- say that these combination squares more accurate than our fixed squares.
@MixingGBP
@MixingGBP 3 жыл бұрын
@@WoodpeckersLLC cool. I already own 2 of your fixed squares...use them on every job. I like the idea of a combination square, but when I learned that my big box combi square was not accurate, it essentially went straight to the trash bin.
