Nice looking tool. Nice set of new features. But, more than a starrett? Aluminum head? Even anodized, won't last and hold tight like the cast head of the starrett. The holes for the pencil tip is so big the lines will be off by too much for anything but rough carpentry. He mentioned running the line to the end of the board, but watch the video he didn't complete the line, because you can't because of the hole being in the middle of the ruler. The indexing pin idea while clever will wear the pin and hole over time again causing loose connection. Not meant to be critical, just things to consider before your purchase.

For me the most important part of a combo square is the locking mechanism. I have had many squares where the mechanism doesn't hold well, rendering the square useless. Question: When adjusting to a new indexing hole, I find that the head feels a bit stuck in the last indexed position, preventing me from repositioning the head unless I first wiggle it a bit out of parallel with the blade after releasing the clamping screw. Is this normal technique, or am I doing something wrong, e.g. over-tightening the locking screw when using the indexing pin.

@@BlackSwan912 I have Woodpecker tools, they are well made for sure. But no one or no company is perfect. I have a tool I bought from them, quite recently actually and it is not a square or a measuring device, which is their mainstay. Upon receiving it I immediately found a design issue that could make it useless to many who bought it. I contacted them, shared photos etc. In about five days I had a re-machined part in hand that corrected the issue. I was told these corrections were made to the production run which was still in progress. This is quite a testament to their support I must say. By the way, it is one damn sweet tool, and you could not pry out of my hands if you tried! So, yes, I will sell you the first one they sent me, got $150??? And this also goes to the point of many claiming that Woodpecker’s tools are just overpriced eye candy and not everyday tools. If a steel way (which Starrett squares use and last a lifetime+) were inset into the body for the blade to ride on it would have addressed any wear issues and would also have allowed for re-squaring as any square that is actually used will eventually need. As it is now, once the body wears, and sooner or later it will, it becomes useless, well as a square anyways.

@ZenMinus3 жыл бұрын
I Like the tool, but think the slide out "foot" on which to rest the body of the square on the wood, has a minor flaw. If the wood is narrower than the distance from the blade to the "foot" then you have the same problem. Why not (re)design it so that the foot slides out to almost the full height/length of the body. A tapered arrangement designed similar to an adjustable parallel could work. The body should contain a tapered groove and pushing a similar pin moves a matching tapered "foot" causing it to slide out from the body. :-) Great tool I'll consider the metric version when it finally makes it to Australian shores, but over here it will be VERY EXPENSIVE!
