There is nothing wrong with OPC - it's a fun product. As a matter of fact when I was a kid growing up in Chicago - we didn't have OPC - we had Topps and I remember when I used to read Beckett that the Canadians had access to OPC and OPC was an extended set so they had the opportunity to pull a Theo Fleury rookie, and I didn't lol..... Yea, as kid OPC cards were quite the novelty, haha..... I really wanted that Theo Fleury rookie, haha... Of course a few years ago I bought a vending case to compensate, so now I have like 25... But I did break a couple of 21-22 OPC hobby boxes recently - I had no idea blank backs were a case hit (I looked on the back of the pack to try to find the odds but found nothing) - but I did pull one, I also pulled a printing plate - it was Dominick Kahun - so nothing special there, lol (I'm a Hawks fan tho).... The blank back was a Grubauer leaders card - so again - nothing special (although it was a retro blank back), but hey - I pulled a few decent rookies like Cole Caufield, Jamie Drysdale etc and all of those annoying team mascot cards (wait, that's MVP, lol) - and of course those "tall boy" type "mini cards".. I pulled some nice retro's like Crosby and Matthews and I think the playing cards are pretty cool and I got some decent ones - as far as the #'d cards I didn't pull anything good at all - I think the black are /99 - not sure about the blue and red..... Look, not bad for $30 bucks per hobby box... I had a fun time and that's all that matters... Look, I'd rather break a box of hockey cards any day over going to a movie and buying the popcorn and all of that jazz, haha... I'm presently working on a case of 90-91 Pro Set -- looking for the errors (and rookies) - there is more than enough to keep me occupied, ha.... Now that insanity is confusing if you're not educated on 90-91 Pro Set, lol - you're looking for bloody noses and cards missing the players numbers - among a million other "errors"... Oh yea, I did pull a "Trophy Award Winner" as well - it's a Calder Trophy of Gabriel Landeskog ... I must say I'm not a fan of these - they remind me of those "manufactured patches" they have in baseball - I mean I don't get it man..

You know what Paul. OPC is normally so cheap that it's worth an occasional break, even one of the square retail boxes. It's so playful and assorted that it's always fun.

@@Fultoncards the last time I bought was chasing Robitaille, Oates and Hextall rookies in 1987 but the all time favorite of course was the 1979 ones. They came with a hard stick of pink gum. Remembered begrudgingly eating them or giving them away they usually came broken in pieces. Still remember the taste and although it didn't taste great does bring me back to those pack breaking moments.

This is exactly the type of product you can open for fun. Nice parallels, great selection of players from every team, and updated rookies! I prefer the feel of some previous o-pee-chee sets but content wise this is a great product at a great price point. Great video as always!

Great box! Funny I grew up in the States so Topps was what we had mostly, but OPC holds a special place in my heart. I still try to collect OPC vintage cards whenever possible. This product is just what the hobby is about for me. Great fun opening packs and trying to collect your favorite players. Childhood joy in a box! Great video! #Dryden

I remember visiting the US for hockey and baseball tournaments as a kid. And, we would hit hobby stores just so we could pick up packs of Topps, which was like a parallel universe for Canadian OPC kids. Btw, I think my next break will be 2000-01 Topps Premier Plus.

Great box, product looks great this year! Couple of notes, red blank backs are definitely scarcer than case hits. If they were, there would only be 600 total cases, and there’s certainly more than that. And as for the “complete” rookie class, the product coming out when it did was by design. The plan was always for this product to come out midway through the season so as to include the debuting rookies and also move away from OPC updates in UD2. This will be the norm for the product moving forward. #dryden

Ya, certainly. The list I provided was a single case sampling, so more representative of avg boxes than cases. The red 1/1 are pretty clear. The question is the print run of the retro blanks. I could see those as case hits. I've def hit them before, but very infrequently.

Sort of the antithesis of hype, actually. It's just an easter egg throwback to old sets like Howe and Richard's rookie year 51/52 Parkhurst, which had blank backs. It's also a reference to printing proofs that surface on occasion, i.e. testing of the printing process. Since around 08/09, OPC has tossed them in as either unannounced cards or short print parallels. The OPC red blank backs are 1/1 and the retros are case hit SSP. The cards themselves have nominal value. Even an Orr is probably just a $10 card. Unless it's a SSP of a generational rookie, they are more a novelty than anything else. But old school hobbyists like myself love easter eggs that acknowledge the entire arc of the hobby.

Hey Matt. My channel is a bit diff than all the mainstream breakers, who monetize by gambling and fixating on green "cha-ching" $ figures. I myself never equate cards to money, unless it is really topical. In fact, I have music beds to underscore the sentimental aspects and my love of the "hobby." The best thing about OPC is the price point is so low that we don't even have to broach the subject. OPC is a nod to the deep history of our hobby, and its evolution. Thus blank backs. I would never in a billion years grade an OPC card. Not that it matters, b/c UD replaces anything lower than 8.5. OPC is to be handled by kids. To me, the best is when cards range from PSA1 to PSA10 in the wild like the old days, so an PSA9 is rare. Otherwise eBay is just overpriced ostentatiousness for outside money. UPDATE: UD is in fact replacing it.

Base OPC is the perfect starting point (or even old ITG hobby boxes, not arena versions!). The hobby became high roller gambling. So it's best to reenter with low-end products to get your bearings.

Might I just say... um... OPC is never about monetary value. It's about *sentimental* value. It's a history lesson for set builders, not ppl who throw their money away speculating on the name du-jour. That's why OPC is so special to us. It's been around since the 1930s. It's one of the few safe havens for *real* hobbyists who despise that outside money and adrenaline junkies have destroyed our hobby. That's why you can always grab last year's OPC hobby boxes for like US $40, and introduce kids to the love of collecting, with zero stress. Touch the cards, destroy the cards, who cares. Ppl like myself, despise having to talk about money every single second. If you want to earn actual wealth, apply yourself, do good in the world, and buy real estate near transportation. You'll make far more capital gains than bickering with ppl on eBay over cardboard. It's paper. Real wealth is a life's work, and four walls for your family. Cards should be entertainment, a sunk cost from our entertainment budget.

Great rip! OPC is somewhat an underrated product in my opinion. I guess it could be a bit underwhelming if you don't hit something that isn't guaranteed in a box though but thanks to a big checklist there's a lot of numbered cards so I assume the odds is pretty short. It looks like UD improved the design for this year, I like the inclusion of foiled cards/details. I think this is the kind of product where a manufactured patch feels like a hit, love the playing cards👍👍 #dryden
