I did this race a few times back in the 80's when I was a Cat 2. For some reason that course was always good for me. One year I did the Cat1/2/Pro race, that had all the top US teams at the time; Coors Light, etc. On the last lap I went up the wall with the leaders, best ever for me, was totally psyched for the sprint...only to drop my chain at the top of the wall. Had to roll in for 18th. Oh well. Almost my best race ever...;-)

Glad you squeaked through that crash. I went down at the same spot earlier in the day in the rain when the whole road was still wet; seems like algae is growing in the house runoff from the curb…it was like black ice. Am out for a bit with two broken ribs. Hope your teammate and the other riders recover well. Thanks for the commentary!

Somewhat unrelated, but I found myself binge watching "Deadliest Catch" on a very long flight the other day, and one of the deckhands in one episode is coaching an inexperienced deckhand, and he says "slow is smooth and smooth is fast". So I think you have a fan in the Alaska crab boat fleet.

Stoked to be racing against him! I generally start with the folks who made an impact on the race. Nothing personal it's hard to recognize everyone and keep it a tight recap video - this one ended up being ~15 min. I'd love to brag about the C2C star in future videos 🤙

Great work on the post race breakdown. Clearly this was a huge speed event. I guess if there is a >20% climb, there was a pretty sharp downhill. That surely makes for a very peaky effort each lap, and very draining.

Can you comment a bit on this HR drop: at 10:23 his HR was 182 and this was right before the climb, then he went up that climb at speed most of us could not do, but exactly there when he produced over 1000w his HR dropped to first 178 then even more to 167 and then it got up again to 190? Looking at that hill, power, speed and cadence that exact place would be the place for HR to shoot up and compared to yours which is much more stable, you were 160 at the bottom of the hill 165 at the top and continued to increase as you go harder then stabilized and fall down again which looks much more what I would expect, it is like his HR is lowering when he is going hard which is pretty counter intuitive for me?

Hey Jeff - Every time I see footage of Tyler Williams riding, it looks like he is sporting a VERY low saddle height. Is that an illusion or part of his strategy?

@@NorCalCycling LOl....don't get me wrong....I'm certain he knows what he's doing. That's why I'm curious about it. It definitely looks like his saddle position is much lower than the norm. I was just wondering if you had any insight.
