After 12 entries in Amy's I've been waiting for this video Chris, ta! Glad to hear you acknowledge that the GOR section isn't just flat, too. There were/are opportunities; just not so many as the initial 110km clockwise AGF versions had with their 'summit' finish atop Benwerrin. When did your 123rpm peak occur; anything to gain by going higher? What I'm dying to know is what you'll try to change, so you can win a rainbow jersey next October against 'the world' in Lorne, & not just the top podium spot at a 'local' GF? (Congrats again!!!) Any thoughts to revisit the course before next October, to actually 'know' it, rather than merely respond to it in the race? (I'd bet that those 'foreigners' bothering to attend, won't just arrive on Saturday night! Hell, I didn't qualify & I'm already booked from Tuesday.) Any Jesse Coil aero or weight-savings ideas you might be willing to try to get that rainbow? Doesn't the S5 allow 34mm tyres, if your wheelset will still allow for the rule of 105? 🤔 So you carried a small ring, & shifter, that you didn't use! I personally played with my gearing so much over those 1st few years & ended up never carrying a gear I wouldn't be using (42/25 for that 16% pinch; 'optimal chain-line' anyone?). Go straight-blocks & mono-blocks; thanks 7800 & Edco!

To non-racers such as myself: The ranting about the first descender is interpreted as just like a personal disagreement or dislike? im struggling to see why somebody taking different lines to others is an issue, its a race people are racing eachother: as long as it doesnt hugely disrupt others (they're not actively cutting anyone off or risking a crash etc) just overtaking and then stagnating is there anything wrong with that? like they might just be taking a different style of line to everyone else or doing something they enjoy or are doing something they're more comfortable with or maybe just havent done as many races so dont know what to do, cant see why you cant ignore him unless im mistaken? i'm trying to identify if this is more of a personal opinion or if there is actually a reason people cant do this even if its less efficient, thanks
@brizziefritz47943 ай бұрын
The main issue with the first descender was that he was all over the place, from the far left hand side of the road to the right and back again, weaving through the paceline. This made it dangerous for the riders around him. The second descender did nothing wrong, maybe somewhat unorthodox but he was never close to other riders so what he did was perfectly fine.
@peterlip83 ай бұрын
Also as a non racer, I was back in the rec ride category. That descent was long and fast. Having anyone, anywhere near me, was internal panic stations for me. I can imagine descending in a bigger group like Chris was in, and most of the people around you, you don't know, you don't know their abilities. Granted, 80 km or so in, anyone left up the pointy end, has spent a lot of time on a bike, but does that make them a predictable descender? Plus there were places where the road is a little damp, you just don't want unpredictable people anywhere near you when doing 60-70km/h on a road I've never been on before.
@swites3 ай бұрын
yep it's dangerous riding. He's riding like he's the only one on the road. Unpredictable weaving like that is what takes out people's front wheels. Or is what takes him out, then causes people behind to fall. Seen it happen more than a few times and been badly injured because of it. My wheel wasn't taken out, but I was caught in the carnage when people fell in front of me. In a bunch on a descent you take clean predictable lines with no sudden change of direction. Because u can't see people behind, or much to the side of you. A person can be following u, or move up beside u ,without u knowing .So if u suddenly swing left or right it's quite dangerous, esp at 60kph!
@cmathews13 ай бұрын
It's far far more than just a "personal disagreement or dislike" - Riding those lines is unpredictable and dangerous in that environment. I am in that video and you can see me shaking my head at the guy in red as he chops in and out of the pace line when we're going 80kph. I actually had a go at him about it when we got down onto the coast. There is a super high degree of trust you're placing in people you don't know in those situations. It's generally accepted as sh*t riding that's putting everyone else at risk for zero benefit - to use your words he is potentially "hugely disrupting others" - i.e. putting us in hospital or worse. And he is clearly "actively cutting people one off" and "risking a crash". That move he pulls @11:15 is ridiculous, he could have easily taken out the front wheel of the guy in orange and then I'm going straight over the top of them both. So yeah, I have zero tolerance for it and it totally deserved being called out.
@klovercast42663 ай бұрын
@@cmathews1 Cheers for the response! it definitely falls into my arrogance of the race format it seems: while i identified that his movement is sporadic and not synchronising with the others: definitely thought it was freedom of the sport to race your own lines without causing a crash and use your own advantages. So while it seems dangerous, i thought that was inherently the compromise of any racing (it is going to be dangerous) and while its always good to avoid risk when unnecessary: this (for me) played on the edge between "the risk of a race" and "should not be tolerated"
