Welcome back to my channel! In this video, I chat about my week in and out of the sewing room. This week, I finished my Think Pink project for this month, tried the Nancy Zieman Pivot & Slide method, made myself an amazing white tank and accidentally made a pair of cropped pants that I'm not sure I love.

Your cropped pants look good on you. I think the secret is not having them too cropped. Your pants hit you at a flattering point of your leg.

So glad your grandma is doing well! Those coco pants are cute on you. You have me looking into that pattern. I’m so glad your clear water worked out well. A buttom up is on my list of things to make. How long does it normally take you to make a Vernon or other button up? I really think that will next on my list. I am hoping to get my 4 Lenox tops made this weekend while camping. It’s chilly and rainy. Have a great weekend!

I’m not sure how I feel about cropped pants on my 5’2” frame but I love your lavender cropped pants! They are a perfect length! You’ve encouraged me to rethink this. I might also have that E&M tank pattern. I like the back seam for shaping. Did you have to make any bust adjustments? I have a 4” difference. Yours turned out so well, the fabric looks like it has a bit of drape to it. Greece sounds so exciting, can’t wait to see your entire wardrobe.

You definitely should try the cropped pants - you might be surprised. I did not make any adjustments to the E&M tank except for shortening it and I have a 6" difference. The fabric is very stretchy and drapy so that helps with the fit. I am ridiculously excited about Greece. I spent some time last night booking our day trips and excursions and I'm now counting down the days! LOL

Hi Izzy. What a lovely vacation wardrobe you have made/are making! I don't know if at any time in Greece you will be renting a car, but if so there's the technique of laying out the wet bathing suit on the back dashboard so it dries out while you're driving around. Works like a charm on a sunny day (even for wet socks in the winter too). Wishing you a wonderful trip to Greece, Antonia

There is nothing worse than making something too small so I think that makes us err on the side of a larger size. I was looking at my own cropped trousers when you were talking and they are ultra comfy but too roomy also!! So glad you loved your Clearwater swimming costume 👍

@dizzyquiltsandsews Ай бұрын
You're totally right - there's nothing more frustrating than making something that's too small. The issue with pants that are too big is the whole issue of needing to remove in-seam pockets, etc. to make them fit better. I often find that's just too much trouble! LOL

Your top is beautiful! Also I love the linen pants, that cut looks great. I think you just have to get used to a new silhouette :) And although they are loose, I can't stand summer pants unless they are that loose , because of the heat. In the winter I like the closer fit. Looking forward to seeing your new tee, and the other videos coming next week

Oh Izzy those cropped pants look fantastic on you 💕. Love the length, you got that spot on. You have lots of lovely pre holiday plans and I like the look of the Vernon shirt. Yep... now you see why take about 4 costumes with me on holidays! I hate trying to dry them in hotel rooms especially if we are on a touring trip. Why don't you just order another different one as there are so many varied styles out there and would probably cost less than the fabric . You may find it hard to buy one out there that suits you if you run into trouble. Whenever I've looked in Europe they are always teeny tiny string bikinis 🤣 Please don't send Debbie to us, we've had our share of rain this Summer😂 Have a great weekend and looking forward to see you pivot and slide on Tuesday 🕺🏻 😂 xxxx

The fabric is just STUNNING. I’m glad your Clearwater was such a swimming success! I agree with you about the whole wet swimsuit thing. I think I’m going to try to find swimwear fabric on sale later this season and make myself at least one more over the winter months so they are ready to go when the nice weather hits. I feel like cropped pants are tricky because you have to hit just the right length for you. My sweet spot is right above the ankle--any shorter and my legs look chopped off. i almost always err on the side of slightly too long and try on the pants before hemming with different pairs of shoes so i can find the perfect length. not gonna lie though--it doesn't always work b/c sometimes the pants end up shrinking a little or maybe i was just off that day. all we can do is our best. 😂
@dizzyquiltsandsews
@dizzyquiltsandsews Ай бұрын
Yes, I think mine are on the verge of being too short. I could probably have used another inch or so to have them end right at the bottom of my calf. I also did look up how to style them and most sites I found say to wear them with heels. I don't wear heels anymore, especially in the summer so I'll have to find ways to make them not look too sloppy! LOL

Hello Izzy. Ease is a really personal thing, isn't it. I'm also scared of making things too tight and being uncomfortable, as well as looking like I'm trying to wear something in a way I really shouldn't. As a larger woman, have been all my life, I really understand what you mean about letting your eyes get used to something like a different length of pants. So often, lately, I keep trying to remind myself that what we find 'flattering' comes from the things we've been taught about what we should look like or what we should be highlighting or trying to hide, etc. In the process of that, because we've been told so much that we should hide this or camouflage that, we end up wearing things that are too big, because we're so worried that something will skim to closely and someone might notice that we're a bit rounder than we're 'supposed' to be, etc. Or a cropped pant might make us look shorter, or not elongate our legs enough... ugh! Because the default we're supposed to aim for is tall and slim, and we buy into the idea that our clothes should do magic tricks that fool the eye into thinking we're closer to that than we actually are. I'm only starting on my garment making adventures, so proper fit is something I know I'll need to start working on as I get more into it. I've paid more attention over the last while at how people who are sewing for themselves talk about their bodies. I love that you corrected yourself about "problem" areas. I've seen a lot of the Brits refer to their mum tums, and I know there are some who are resisting and rejecting the word 'flattering' because that often just means "makes me look thinner." It's a good thing to see people learn to accept themselves and show themselves some grace, but it's also honest to just say there are pieces and parts that we're not fully happy with. I know this is a bit of a rant, but some of what you said really got me thinking. From my point of view, that length of your Coco pants looks really cute on you. I only just started to wear cropped pants myself not long ago, and it really was just a matter of getting used to how it looked. Now, they're just my pants. 🙂
@dizzyquiltsandsews
@dizzyquiltsandsews Ай бұрын
Such an amazing comment - and you really have me thinking! I try to focus on fit and make garments that help me achieve my goals in terms of what I want to highlight and show off and what I want to minimize. Most of the time though, for me, it’s about proportions and not about size or length. Through sewing, I’ve learned to accept (love even?!) the body I have and my feelings about it are much more neutral now. My measurements are just data I need to make myself garments I’ll love to wear. I do still hear myself talking negatively about my tummy or my legs or my upper arms but I try to correct myself right away. It’s definitely a work in progress! And to be honest, I’ve also noticed a trend with the brit youtubers about weight-loss and being overly critical of their size 2 bodies and I’ve had to unfollow a few of them because it really got me feeling bad about myself. Not their fault obviously, they can talk about whatever they like on their channel, but I choose not to watch them now. Thank you so much for watching and for commenting!!
@callitags
@callitags Ай бұрын
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I started to see things like weight and measurement as just data points, and that's been so freeing. It can be difficult to see people being critical of themselves while living in bodies that we see as more traditionally accepted and desired, and most of the time, these days, I can see it for what it is, that they're also caught up in the idea that not being a certain size, shape, weight, etc, means that their bodies are somehow wrong and not matching an ideal they're comparing themselves against. There was a time when it would make me feel negatively about myself, too, but mostly I just feel sad or frustrated that so many of us deal with these battles of self-image and insecurity, regardless of how near or far we are from whatever the fashionable body type is. I completely support your decision to not watch content that makes your path to self-acceptance more difficult. We're up against so much when it comes to that!
@MaryCunningham-u5j
@MaryCunningham-u5j Ай бұрын
So much of the look in clothing is proportion - the advice is to have cropped pants end at a point that is the thinnest part of your leg so the hemline doesn't add visual width. I'm 5'6" with long legs and think they always look like I couldn't find pants long enough for me when I've tried them on, however - can't win, right 😄?!? The white tank is great and will also look good under the chambray shirt. Good news about the bathing suit working in real life! As I said, mine is like a short dress on top and stays down in a pool because of the fabric weight but seated in a hot tub near a jet it balloons up around me 🤣. I'm making a toile for Vogue 9258 which is an easy tank but the armholes were way too low and raising them requires adjusting six pattern pieces because of the design - so much for easy! Debby is here today and I've already picked up a number of branches. So glad to hear about how well your Grandmother is doing!!!
@dizzyquiltsandsews
@dizzyquiltsandsews Ай бұрын
I agree - proportions are key. I need to find different ways to wear the cropped pants which I feel are just a little bit too short. I really wanted them to hit me maybe 1 inch lower. And because they are too big, they really don't look nice if I tuck in my top so I'm going to try them with various tops to see if I like the style. Oh my goodness - that Vogue tank sounds super complicated LOL Debby hit overnight and it's been raining for hours now but nothing too bad. Very windy too!
