That is fair but I mentioned AL I know of no nonAL organised groups who play that rule. And AL organised groups HAVE to follow that rule.

Those new dragonborn certainly give some new variety to the race. It's too bad they can't come in and rework the breath weapon entirely for the edition, but this'll at least make them more flexible for class options.

I appreciate Matt doing something with the Dragonborn race as it desperately needs some help. Unfortunately, these subraces still seem pretty weak to me. They should not have given up their draconic resistance. Especially the intelligence based one. Those extra features do not make up losing that resistance.

@@TyranusRex721 Yeah, I've been experimenting with reworks to the breath weapon for awhile now. The only consistent change I can say is necessary is adding 2 dice at every tier instead of 1. Other changes either get too complicated or face some controversy.

@@malmasterson3890 Yeah, if the Breath Weapon is going to be an action and a rest recharge, then it needs to be far more powerful than what it is right now. I have done some experimenting of my own and I think I have gotten a decent rework going.

@sum body That's a change I've seen yes, but that doesn't really accomplish the effect I and others are looking for. Imo the breath weapon should be this big impactful attack that's only seen once maybe twice a game but actually does something when it is used, but this change just makes it feel like a limited aoe cantrip, which is only slightly better, and imo actually worse, than the original version, and many of my players would agree. I am of the opinion that the breath weapon should always be one use per short or long rest for these very reasons, and is just one of the many controversies surrounding reworks to the racial trait.

Hallowed One Shadow Sorcerer sounds like a fun build. Works with the undead warlock/undying monk too. I like the idea of a character who was crushed by a massive magical event and was reformed by the magical fallout and crawling from the ruins of the area that was hit.

Good morning to all nerds! I love the "Crow" type character possible with Hollow One paladin. (Oath of Vengeance) I am also looking for a build that takes advantage of the 7 ability score increases available for a 8th lvl fighter/12th lvl thief. Are there any Race/Subclass options in the new book that would work?

OMG!!! I hadn't thought of that!!! Also, if you play D&D you should definitely buy this book!!! Worst case scenario you have some insight into another man's mind and see how he has adapted the Core stuff to fit what he wants for his own world!

Another thing is, thanks to the Wildemount book, if you're the sort who doesn't get PDFs (like myself), you now have a physical copy of some of the races that were previously only found in PDF-only items, like the Tortle and Aaracokra.

The hallow one reminds me of the character from dark souls. It would be fun to play the character as a former cleric that got reblessed by the Raven Queen or Mystra.

So what I did for my Kenku was get a book where he just wrote down words in it, and whenever he'd need to speak he'd crack open his book and read a few words also using arcane mouth is a thing you can do

If they are, you have to buy the entire book. If you try to buy just the races from this book on Dndbeyond, you can only buy the orc. You can't buy any of the reprints from this book, which is very unfortunate

Wow I am a huge fan of critical role and I have been writing a book for awhile now in my own dnd like world. In this world one of the main characters dies and is brought back to a sort of undead state like the explores guide to wildemount says about hollow one revenant. I have barely seen anything about this sourcebook and somehow we ended up with a revenant type feature about them really strange how much of a coincidence that is.

Tbh I was glad for some of the reprints, Genasi were stuck in an adventure book till now instead of player options book like this and as for aaracockra and tortles they were only in digital formats till now it's nice to see them in print form

Got my copy (along with a bunch of other books) the other day, and as I was reading it, I saw the Hollow One part, at which point, a couple of lightbulbs went off in my head. 1. My human fighter has a necromancer wife - yet to be run into in the campaign we are running - whom I've been talking to our DM about, and one of the things I wanted said wife to have was an intelligent (or at least self-aware) undead servant/guard, who acts like a friend, and protector, but the NPC builds in the DMG p282 for skeleton and zombie aren't all that great for the standard stat spread, yet the Hollow One template would allow that to happen. Explanation could be something like, guy fell in a fight, healer short on spells and potions, necromancer had ancient scroll, and used it in an attempt to save the person, only for them to be an intelligent undead. 2. In campaign, our tiefling assassin (along with half of the party) recently got some sort of plague, and he prayed to any god willing to listen (bit of a shortage due to a lot being killed in a battle among themselves) and he gets the God of Death, who makes him an undead thrall, and now must obey the Death God's commands. At least he was cured. This would make him really scary. Needless to say, when I got my books, and read up on the Hollow One, what I did was text my DM (can't wait until we can play again) and said "Hey man, I'm going to give you an Advantage on your upcoming Wisdom Save, and tell you that the things in my new books will make you go wtf, including a template for playable undead." (Guy only had the Core books for a long time, and when I had borrowed a copy of Xanathar's Guide to Everything, early this November (2019), from the library, I showed him the Celestial warlock, and it just blew his mind - let's just say that the previous session we'd had a mild debate/disagreement over if a holy priest could be a warlock, along with him pointing out his 20 years of experience compared to my two months (as I am fairly new) - I might have been new to the game, but my library connections had brought me the means to humble him a bit and open his mind. He's got Xanathar's recently, good for the Inquisitive rogue wood elf.) DM: Are they Official wizards of the coast published books or third-party? (he doesn't allow third-party material) Me: Official. DM: I look forward to checking them out.

Am I understanding this Hallow One correctly? The Hallow one registers as Undead, which mean you cannot cast Revivify on a Hallow One. So when you make a death save, you get an automatic stabilization on a 16 or higher, but if you fail 3 times, you’re DEAD. Thats a cool concept

I'd really like to see some, for lack of a better word, "pure" races. I'd like for dragons, demons, and angels to be playable. I obviously don't mean like half-dragons, or dragonborn, or half demons, or tieflings, or half-angels, or aasimar. I mean actual dragons, actual demons, actual angels. The wyrmling is already stated out, there are a few of those that are cr1 and cr 1 creatures are notoriously easy to convert into a player race. Since the wyrmling is a pure dragon, just a younger one, I don't see why we can't do the same with the other boss monsters in the game. For the demon, make it a young pit fiend or a young balor. Same with the angel, a young planar or something. While we're at it, let's make a baby cthulu. That's an scp so at least there's a template to work with. I'm just saying, wotc keeps trying to introduce similar things to the pure races, they just heavily water it down. Why not just find a way to use the real thing instead of just a knock off?

@@dicorockhimself No, I mean like a really young angel. Planars are thousands of years old or older. Wouldn't be too hard to just scale everything back a bit to when they were only a hundred or so. Same with the pit fiend and the balor. As for the dragon, I already said that cr1 creatures are incredibly easy to convert to player races. Nothing too hard about that, and nobody should be playing a dragonborn anyway. Horrible race. Inferior to the half-dragon template in every way and anybody from any race can become a half-dragon. Technically the template itself is only a cr 1 so you should be letting players start off as half-dragons anyway. Same breath weapon as the wyrmlings btw, so if one works the other will too.

Neverfate Gaming Really? I have someone playing an Air Genasi in my current campaign. He uses his ability to hold his breath indefinitely on a regular basis. They even put him in a Portable Hole for more than 10 minutes and he was fine. Levitation is also really powerful as a racial ability. It can immediately end and encounter! 🧞‍♂️

There's 15 pages of magic items, of those 15 pages 10 1/2 are vestiges (legendary magic items that get stronger the longer you have it), and artifacts.
