"Dangerous Type" is a 1979 song by the Cars from their second studio album, Candy-O. It was written by Ric Ocasek.
The core guitar riff that "Dangerous Type" is centered on resembles the T. Rex song, "Bang a Gong". The song features Ric Ocasek on lead vocals. AllMusic critic Tom Maginnis compared the song to "All Mixed Up", a track on The Cars' self-titled debut album, as they both were the final track on their respective albums, with both tracks "vamping on an upsweep of grand chord changes as the group's entire sonic palette eventually fills the tape to capacity for the big finish."
Although "Dangerous Type" never was released as a single, the song has since become a fan favorite. It has appeared on numerous compilation albums, among them Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology and Complete Greatest Hits.
"Dangerous Type" has received positive reception from music critics. AllMusic critic Greg Prato said it was one of the "plenty of other standouts [besides "Let's Go" on Candy-O that] can be found" and cited the track as a highlight from Candy-O.Tom Maginnis said, "'Dangerous Type' is the Cars' idea of a musical epic", and went on to say, "After the impossibly infectious leadoff single 'Let's Go,' 'Dangerous Type' would become the album's second-biggest hit." In the Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology liner notes, Brett Milano said, "'Let's Go' and 'Dangerous Type' [stood] out as the best of [Ric] Ocasek's enigmatic-woman songs."

I usually prefer the songs Ben did lead vocals for over Ric's as a general rule, but this is one of Ric's standouts imo. Sucks that both of em are gone now. Here's hoping their legacy and the legacy of their bandmates live on like they have already

I just gotta say this, first of all I Love The Cars. Second, I'm 65 years old and this build up of sound y'all are talking about is nothing new. It's been part of rock n roll since the 60's. It's a natural progression used to build up the energy, the beauty of the song itself and finally the climax of the whole musical experience. I and millions of others have been rockin' out to music like this for decades! Glad y'all are getting to have the same great experience! ✌️❤️

I remember like it was yesterday when I was in a record store in Thornton, Colorado, North Valley Mall. They were doing a promo for The Cars first. At that time it was still a lot of Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath. But the new sounds were on their way with The Cars, Van Halen, Blondie, Prince and many others. Working in a movie theater back in the late 70's to the first years of the 80's, who could ask for more with that and music like this. A great time to be living. Not everything was perfect in the world, but The Cars and many others made it seem like it was.

They were the epitome of New Wave only now that label means nothing just like Alternative rock or Grunge mean nothing now. What’s left is the music and Cars had great songs because Ric Ocasek wrote great songs and he and Orr sang them well. They also weren’t afraid of technology and embraced it early on. Using Synths and Electronic drums for effect. The result was they sounded so futuristic and still do! Those first two albums are almost perfect and Produced by Roy Thomas Baker. Thanks Ric, Ben and Roy!

Can't begin to tell you the impact The Cars had in the late 70's. Most of the big bands had fizzled. Beatles, Led Zeppelin and even the Stones were doing disco. Boston picked up the heavy guitar mantel and lifted us up again. But New Wave bands were picking the 70's up and getting us fired up for the 80's. The Cars wrote and performed some of the most legendary tunes of my generation. Candy-O was my favorite (I married a redhead) but their first 3or 4 albums set the tone for all of the dance clubs in SoCal for years.

I first heard this song in a movie back in 2003. I was around 16 going on 17, we were using CD players and the console of choice was the PS2. Anyway, it was Times Square on a gamble of choice. It seemed like an interesting film ( I didn't see any trailers nor read any articles or reviews in regards to the film I was about to take a gamble on) I was sold immediately simply on the fact the film was set in a late 70's - early 80's, Tim Curry was included in the cast and I had nothing left to lose. After viewing the film it left quite an emotional impact. I thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack and this song was part of that soundtrack.
