New Deposit Return Scheme for plastic drinks bottles and cans comes into effect from February

Eimear O'Sullivan, who heads up Lidl's sustainability team, takes us through how it will work.
Reverse vending machines like the one used here are being installed at shops all over the country.
Smaller shops taking part in the scheme may not have a machine but will take back your containers over the counter.
Your voucher can be used against the price of a purchase or exchanged for cash.
Any plastics drinks bottle or can from 150ml to 3 litres in size with the Re-turn logo and special barcode on it can be returned in any participating shop.
Just remember - don't squash the container - the machine needs to read the barcode.

It's not new deposit refund when you purchase these items your paying extra for them so what your getting back is the extra money that went on it so in fact your getting nothing only your own money back

Who made those machines? Installation cost labour and money also. Paper rolls for printing are not free either. It is stupid idea for stupid people.

This is all well and good. I don't drive so it makes it difficult for me. I would not mind but you cannot crush the cans or bottles beforehand to save space. Pain in the arse to satisfy the Green nuts. Am happy to do my bit but this is getting ridiculous. Next it will be anything in a tin can.

How quickly can you feed bottles into it? Like can you put them one by one with no delay between them or do you have to wait a few seconds between each entry

can some1 please find out for me that if I walk into a store and I buy a red bull can or something and it cost me 2.50 to buy and deposit is 15c if I just pay the 2.50 can I walk out off the store without paying the deposit surely they can't force me to pay it sure not really breaking the law cause I am paying for the drink already ????

They don't get charged the deposit when you buy, so there's no deposit to get back from the machine.
