it's more than that, people might call the cops on the wrong people but it is also the officers job to gather additional information and not shoot someone point blank before knowing the situation. It's not illegal to answer your door with a gun pointed down, finger off the trigger (non aggressively) in your own home. Even if this was the guy arguing with his girl, why shoot him without saying a word? The officer didn't say "put the gun down" or "drop your weapon". He just killed him.

While the person making the call has an obligation to either say, "I THINK the disturbance is coming from (apartment number), but I don't know for sure", the cop has a MUCH BIGGER obligation to not assume the information he's getting is correct. At the end of the day, as you said already, it's not illegal to answer the door TO YOUR OWN HOME with your gun pointed down. Unless you're black. Then it's an immediate death sentence!

Everyone asking why would he answer the door with a gun. 1st as stated he was talking to his girlfriend on video when the officer knocked. 2nd the cop moved away from the view of the peep hole as the victim looks through peep hole. Sees no one gets suspicious. 3rd he opens the door and as soon as he does see the cop he raises his unarmed hand to explain himself but gets shot regardless. 4th he was trained well not to have his finger on the trigger and pointed down.

it is legal in literally every state to have a firearm in your own home. cops need to stop assuming people who are armed are a threat just because they are armed. when i was a Marine infantryman if I shot at someone who hadn't shot at me first, I would be court martialed and imprisoned at the conclusion of which I would also have been dishonorably discharged, which carries with it a felony conviction. As long as cops get to claim they felt they were in immediate danger of serious personal injury, the courts say they can use deadly force against anyone, regardless of whether that individual is breaking any laws. Cops in Florida killed a cosplayer a few years ago for carrying a wooden sword... a stick. they killed a guy for carrying a stick. their unions make sure the people writing the laws are friendly towards law enforcement. endorsements from police unions is the fastest way to NOT get my vote.

I’m a former USAF Security police, now known as Security Forces. We, along with OSI, would have been investigating this situation. If our Airman would have been found not at fault, there would be consequences for that cop. We would have found away around any obstacles stopping us. The same way the civilian cops do! That cop would have found his way onto the Base and would not have left on his own accord. It would have taken a lot for the civilians to retrieve him and he WOULD be facing federal charges, if he even survived the apprehension.

This was a case of the wrong apartment. The new release documents states that there were two other apartment numbers that have been documented in the days prior to be the cause of disturbances and even anther caller saying that the argument was still ongoing during the time the cop was at his door. Plus the lady that meets the cop wasn’t sure what apartment it was until the cop pressed her for it, and she just told him 1401. That all proves that it was the wrong apartment. FDLE is dragging feet on this for a reason.

If the man answering the door knew and saw it was the Cops, and answered with a gun in his hand whether pointed down or not, that was not a smart move by the victim. But it's a sad situation all around. The Cop a little overly aggressive, but I would think he was trained to shoot in a situation like that. He's assuming the victim was dangerous from the woman's account, and assuming the man may quickly pull that gun up and kill him. The main issue I think is the story from the woman, and leading the Cop to this apartment, did she give false info, was there a different motive behind what she told cops. It's just a situation that shouldn't have occurred.

The Deputy should be charged . The Airman was attempting to show Deputy he has no deadly intent by rising his non gun hand. The gun was pointed at the ground finger off trigger the weapon was never raised ir attempted to be raised. I hope the District Attorney sees this situation in the correct light and charges the Deputy.

Gun was pointed down with finger off the trigger and was never raised. Cop never allowed the victim to identify (kept stepping away from peep hole) and did not even give him enough time to drop the gun before he opened fire. Surely this deputy is no longer employed in law enforcement, as this video is clear evidence he is not suitable to be trusted with a firearm and cannot perform the job without endangering the public.

The police officer made to the apartment complex in three minutes. No fighting no noises of domestic violence. The neighbor under Roger's apartment called the police soon as she heard the gun shots, but she didn't hear the domestic disturbance, no where. I'm sure she would had called the police if she heard noises.
