New DOCTOR WHO ‘The Daleks’ Colourised Images Revealed! I’m Not Convinced About The Blue Floor!🤔

As odd as the blue TARDIS floor looks, it is actually accurate to the actual set. The production team originally wanted a white floor, but because of how black and white studio cameras work, they had to paint it blue as the plain white floor would have caused too much glare. I do find it strange that they have went to the efforts to make the floor the exact colour of the set, and yet the console, that should be a pale green colour has just been left grey.

That was for the same reason you mentioned, the pale green painting of the console actually helped it look cleaner and brighter when broadcast in black and white

I’ve always been fascinated by the way old black & white shows and movies were filmed back in the day. I suppose the only other option for the floor would be to leave it as it was but then it would just look black and white. I’m sure it will be fine.👍😉

I would love to see all 7 episodes colourised and released as a steelbook some day. Also include the original B&W episodes too and upscaled to full HD as well. I would buy it.

I’m sure if ‘The Daleks’ is a success next week and the Blu-Ray/DVD sells well which I’m sure it will, then you will likely see more episodes colourised or at least the whole of episodes being done. Not long now.👍😉

Yes the original tardis floor was blue... It wasn't that blue, but it was a blue. That is very over saturated.

I agree. I think it was far too saturated in the photographs. Barbara’s top was also too pink. Looked much better in the episode last night. I think they did a good job.👍😉

I don’t mind black and white doctor who at all but I’d also love to see some of these 60s stories in colour like tomb of the cybermen that would be a great story in colour

I remember when Tomb Of The Cybermen was found and quickly released on VHS. It’s a great story. I’m so impressed by the colourised images for ‘The Daleks’ which the BBC released yesterday. Tomb would be a great storey to release as long as they don’t cut out too much.👍😉

I knew I’d seen an original set photo before. Don’t get me wrong, I love pink but it just doesn’t suit Barbara.😂😂 I notice Susan has a blue top so maybe they didn’t look right wearing the same colour🤔

Yeah, it was light green. Maybe they are using artistic license. I am currently watching ‘The Daleks’ on BBC iPlayer. I still think it is great and although it is not fast paced like the modern era, I think it flows nicely. 👍😉🪠

You think the blue floor is bad - the console and walls were actually mint green. You can see the original color in the Pertwee story Inferno.

I remember, and the console is proper green. The whole prop was a bit of a mess if I remember. I must rewatch Inferno. I haven’t seen it for ages.👍😉

I’m sure they said they would release the colourised 75 minute episode with the original black and white episodes included with the set. Im sure they will release all 7 episodes in colour if they can make money out of it but I can’t really see it happening. Let’s hope they sort out the rights with ‘An Unearthly Child’ so a season 1 Collection Box Set can be released.👍😉

@404TVfr Well, it'll be nice to compare and contrast the two versions when we get the chance. Personally, I'll always favour the original, even though you're right about the unnecessary padding. Some judicious editing would have improved the story greatly.

Colour photos exist of the original serial being made. The colours are known. The Daleks 'bodies' themselves are not 'silver' or metal, but a 50-50 mix of silver and white, to photograph on video as metallic in contrast to the white sets. Some people re-create Daleks in this colour, and some do them almost chrome. It's a personal choice, like when making model aircraft, but are we recognising only what we wish and ignoring true things at the same time?

Yes, but those sets were never intended to be seen in colour. The colours they painted them in were only selected to make them look good in B&W. If the BBC had colour tv back in the 60s, they would have made the Daleks metallic silver and the floor white. The Addams Family crew used a similar technique, painting the walls of their house bright pink. If they colourised those episodes, they definitely would not have kept the pink walls since it is not canonical to how the Addams' home is supposed to look. The same is true of Doctor Who, since we know how the TARDIS is supposed to appear, based on the 3rd Doctor stories, which used the same console and police box.

It doesn’t look right coloured blue but maybe it will look better when we finally get a chance to watch it on Thursday. I was in two minds when I heard it was being colourised as felt it was completely pointless but now I am really excited to see it. I love the episode and it is great that there is something special to watch on the actual 60th anniversary. Time will tell.

@blueknight07 It blew me away too. I watched it at 7.30pm on BBC4. It will never replace the original but was a great tribute to the classic series, especially William Hartnell. I’d like ‘The Seeds Of Death’ and ‘Tomb Of The Cybermen’ next.😉👍

Would be nice. That private collector is said to have a missing Hartnell Dalek episode. Daleks' Masterplan episode 4? How is it we got surviving episodes from a story that was never sold overseas yet nothing of Marco Polo?

It’s a really strange storey which coincidentally came out during the 60th anniversary.🤔Apparently he doesn’t have any Dalek episodes as says he never mentioned them but does have some Hartnell episodes. I really do hope it is true. I believe that every single missing episode is out there, somewhere.😉👍

Unless it's all done through AI? The AI will be able to be given black, white, grey, and will work out what colours they should be. That would be my guess.

@@MartinFutter70 I think it's quite neat for a one-off, or for certain iconic episodes. For instance, I wouldn't mind seeing 'The War Games' given the same treatment. I don't think they're going to go through and do this with every black and white episode, so I wouldn't worry. It's interesting that they're going to shorten the serial down into a 70min movie, basically. I'm curious how. We'll have to see. But yeah, don't think too much into it. My advice would be to just tune in when they bring it out and enjoy the novelty of it.

Maybe some of the colours didn’t work together. Also, certain colours used on set in the original filming would have been used because they look better in Black & White.

It is supposed to be an artistic colourisation as stated on the press release, which means that it is not going to be exactly the same as the original.

It’s all about expectations. Being cut down to 75 minutes was a concern but in reality this will never replace the original. You’ve got to look at it for what it is. A tribute to the classic series, especially the wonderful William Hartnell. It was something different, especially done for the 60th anniversary. I loved it for what it was, a celebration of the last 60 years. I won’t be buying the blu-ray but I would if the whole story had been colourised. You will notice that the same people who moan about it are the same people who will still go out and buy the blu-rays and steel books for their collections. As it is classic Doctor Who, my review will be coming very soon although I know that I am a complete sucker for nostalgia so it is likely to be very biased.😂😂👍🪠
