If you decide to swap out your motors please note the following - there is no need to return the old motors before receiving the new motors. Don’t let support tell you otherwise. It is done on the basis of trust. Pay the trade price for the motors. On receipt you need to return the old motors within a reasonable time period circa 30 -45 days. If you subsequently decide not to send them back, you will be charged the shortfall.

I see the footprints listed on their site but do you have an idea of what space you need to compensate for the say the seat during a tilt or yaw for example, does this extend the footprint listed? Thanks

@ you need circa 1.5m x 1.8m ideally.

@@SimHangerFS thank you I appreciate that trying to figure out if I have that space or might have to opt for the HERO-2 which needs a little less room I guess because of the yaw. Another question if you don’t mind - can you reduce the motion at all so like set it to a max of 50% for instance? Thanks

It's really great they have addressed the stepping problem. I don't own one, although I would love to have one, but I'm intrigued to know how the new motors handle something like an aircraft carrier launch, I'm guessing that the abrupt motion is a little less aggressive with the new motors compared to the old ones.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the update. I have just received my H2, hopefully with the new gearboxes 😊. Now all I need is a PC! I notice that you have changed your seat to the Next Level Racing flight seat. This is the one I’m intending to get. I just wondered how you got on fitting it to the DOF platform? Did you need to drill more holes as before? Many thanks for your great content. Yes I needed to modify the cross rail (drill) to fit the seat. DOF have some recommendations on their website.

@@SimHangerFS I used an intermediate 18mm plywood board, painted black, bolted to the cross rails, then drilled holes to match the seat rails. This also means you can easily mount a collective lever or throttle on the side.

I *so* much want a rig like this - a decent amount of smooth 3D linear motion + pitch/roll/yaw.; something that as you strap it on almost feels like the slippery/buoyant motion sensation you get as you step into a canoe. Lusting after this, I realize that by purchasing it I will need to cash in all the chips w/ my wife (accumulated over the last 30 yrs). What should I do ??

Hello Mark, that's very helpful to see your rig layout. It's identical to my H3K. I've also ordered only 2 motors and their current status is shipped & on route to the UK. Can you elaborate on the firmware upgrade issues, anything I need to do, make sure of, etc. I've already downloaded and read the 7 page instructions.

You’ll need to get the model number/code for your unit from support to enter during the firmware update process

@@SimHangerFS Firmware upgrade done, finally sorted the Config. Note to others doing the motor upgrade, I used the in quotes example ini file supplied by DOF and only edited the characters I needed to. Also unplug any other USB devices. I suspect one of mine was interfering. The end result is superb smooth pitching & banking, no stepping.

It shows how many configurations of layup there are out there because mine is nothing like yours Mark- can you confirm that this is a final fix (subject to it being compatible with my H3 setup) because I forked out to get the previous 'fix' that DOF put out there!

looking for a motion rig the last few hours, i have found the dof reality webside, and was wondering, what is the difference between the h2/h3 flight version, and the h2/h3 race version, because the flight version cost a few hundreds more, but seemed to be the same platform. so i guess the difference which lead to the higher price of the flight versions, are the updated motors and gearbox which is mentioned in this video!?

You guessed correctly, the higher price of the flight version is for the new 3:1 reduction gearing, which the car racing variants do not have.

I have an H3 which is just over a year old, mine does not have the Kardon joints but i do have the SFU gearboxes. When i emailed DOF support (included the photos of the motors an control box) they said it was the H3K model. They said they could supply the motors but I know its not as simple as that. Do you know when they are going to provide an upgrade for non Kardon platforms?

I am very interested in the DOF H3 Motion Platform. I only play MSFS2020 in VR (Pimax Crystal). Does the Motion platform also make sense if you fly the A320?

Reaction speed is adjustable in the software as is axis travel.

Is it worth going for pro version? It’s about £500 more I think. Ive never done any motion or vr gaming only Xbox until I tried my mates which blew me away. Now I’m going to build a high spec pc a couple months after mfs24 release. Want a motion rig and top notch vr. This looks decent

Depends on how many hours you intend to use it per day/session. Regular 5-6 hour uninterrupted sessions = pro. Less than that = H

Appreciated. Think I need to be realistic. Don’t really have time to do anything 5-6 hours regularly except sleep 😊 Just love flight sims and never had opportunity for a proper set up till now and trying the vr had me stunned. Motion rig s must buy maybe best to ease my way into it

@SimHangerFS Sure Fabian Lim announced it on Discord. Round about Q4 2024. Their Yoke is really God quality. If the DOF, the rudders and Stickbase is also that good, then the FFB and DOF future shines bright .

I always hated the DOF systems because they seemed very jerky and not refined at all. So I moved on to Dbox and I've never regretted my decision.

There are several on the market. Also a guy from France building DOF (MotionXP) But his DOF is huge and 10.500.- and building just 6DOF. Flitesim also brings out a 3-6 DOF now

Hi Gorilla. This is totally off topic but I was just wondering, are you still using the XTAL VR headset on your rig? If so, how are you liking it, and have you heard anything from VR Engineers on whether or not they're planning on announcing the XTAL 4 any time soon?
