Awesome, I love the K-9 content! 😁 The Ruffwear Palisades pack is very similar and has accessories like a "cooling plate" and "brush guard" that help reduce chafing. I like to clip Joker's leash in and accordion fold the rest into the one of tiny top pockets. I leave about 4inchs sticking out of the zipper as too easily grab quickly and it deploys. Opposite tiny pocket holds his cool dyneema food bowls😁

I tried the Palisades but I didn’t think it had removeable saddle bags? Because Remy is broad chested he wears a larger harness but then the saddle bags were way to big comparatively so it didn’t work for us.

The Palisades will separate from the harness and it's a little priceyer. The Approach doesn't but it's same price point as the Alpha. Interested in the Alpha pack quick connects, Palisades is secure but a bit fiddly. The Groundbird looks super cool, did you review it?

Great video! Gus uses the Groundbird Gear bags becasue the one side fits all bags did not work with his body shape. One thing I do to keep him balance is use the Ruffware water bladders and adjust the amount of water to compensate the weight differences. Nothing better that hiking with a dog.....

How is the Alpha Pak working? We have a Ruffwear palisades pack at the moment which is bomb proof but I would like to lighten up Lucy’s pack so she can carry more of her food without going over 5 pounds of carrying weight. Plus I live in Nashville and you said they are from here. Thanks Robert and Lucy( four legged backpacking buddy)

I definitely like the harness because it’s wider. Some things on the actual pack I’m still trying to get used to but adjusting it is much easier. Remy is wider on the top so the middle part between the saddle bags isn’t wide enough so the bags tend flip up more than I would like.

I've been sharing my bed and quilt with my dog when I go out with my dog have you tried this before? If so what made you feel like bringing a separate bag and potentially bed was a better idea I'd be interested on your insight before I find out 1st hand on trail... have you ever tried using a small opsak for the doggy waste? I used one on the section of the pct I did with my pup and just tossed on top of my bag and I did not notice any smells coming from it... if I had got a pack for my pup I would have probably stored it on him but it was effective as far as smell goes Thank you for the content I find it helpful since I prefer backpacking with my pup much more than solo style I really liked my bungee harness it made the yanking much less noticeable and made it easier to carry all the extra weight when he was pulling I found the ruffware 7-11 foot leash a bit too long personally I got the 5-7 foot and wish there was a goldilocks middle distance but there was not so I stuck with the shorter one

Remy is about 80 lbs so definitely doesn’t fit to sleep with him on my pad and bag. Even at home he is in the kennel at night and not allowed on furniture so normal for him to not be cuddled next to me. Plus if he’s wet or super dirty he doesn’t get my bag dirty. And I definitely use another recloseable bag to store the pooped in bag. Opsak would work. I usually try to bury as much as possible to avoid having to carry it around, especially if I’m 4-5 days on trail without having a trash can near by.

Yah I went with a synthetic bag for the water or dirty dog issue but they pack down so big it takes up like a 3rd of my bag at least which becomes an issue one thing that had me super worried about sharing a sleep system with a dog that hasn't been an issue on the oregon section of the pct but I'm sure will be an issue other places is poison oak from Mt ashland to odell lake it hasn't been an issue but at lower elevations where poison oak or ivy or sumac may be more of an issue I'm sure there would be problems with my strategy which is a reason I'm looking into other options like a 2p tent and some things for my pup to sleep without sharing with me...80lbs Is a big'n my pup is a small 56lbs and we barely fit in our 1 plus person shelter Have you ever had to deal with sap on your dogs foot grabbing hold of rocks and random debris that doesn't usually get stuck in their paws and causing issues ? I ran into this issue recently and I'm curious if you have any insights into cleaning sap off so things don't get stuck in there... I was thinking something like gojo or sap of soap might work well if you rinse it off enough so they don't ingest any if they lick at it afterwards I've got my dogs pads pretty strong through training/conditioning over the last year but sap got little things that don't usually cause issues stuck in between the toes and caused some issues for us Thank you again for the replies and the info it's hard to find good info about hiking with pups and I really do appreciate you putting info out there for people that wanna trek with their dogs

The sap issue is interesting. I have never had to deal with it yet, but since it's more on the adhesive/sticky end of materials you should be able to warm up the sap and then loosen it up w/ an edible oil like olive oil or peanut butter. I usually have some sort of microfiber cloth with me and usually carry both olive oil and peanut butter on trail. You can dip the cloth in hot water then apply to the sap if it's hardened. Then massage the oil or peanut butter into the same and wait 5-ish minute. Clean off the sap w/ the same cloth. I also usually carry a small bottle of camp soap so then you can clean off afterwards.

Hi, how do you like the pack now? I’m thinking of ordering this pack for our Wind River Range trip in a couple of weeks. Thanks!
@GIRLplusDOGAdventures
@GIRLplusDOGAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
The harness piece is great for his wide chest. The backpack comes easily on and off now that I practiced a bit. The only thing is the saddle bags seem flip out or hang off to the side so it looks weird. I think the piece that lays across the top is not wide enough for him, however, it does move back and forth or drop to one side so that’s good

@@GIRLplusDOGAdventures Thanks so much for the response! I’ll order it soon. For $80 bag, it is not that bad comparing to the Ruffwear Palisades.

What’s been your assessment of the dog pack?
@GIRLplusDOGAdventures
@GIRLplusDOGAdventures 9 ай бұрын
I really like the harness with the exception the front chest straps don’t stay tightened but it doesn’t really the ability for the pack to stay. The pack clips don’t 100% stay clipped so I would need to check them every once in a while. Remy is wider on too so I do wish you could adjust the width the pack could lay over the top. But for the price it worked really well and went 150 miles with no quality issues

Not yet. I wanted to take it out for more miles this year. Last year, I was only able to do 2 trips. I actually had a baby and got sciatica from the pregnancy so wasn’t able to backpack much. There are some great features and the wide chest plate on the harness worked great. The only thing that really bugged me was I could adjust the top piece that connected the saddle bags to Remy’s width so the bags almost stuck out straight to the sides when they were full.
