New DR 30" Mower SP30! Unbox and Run it around the yard!

just picked up a new 30in Toro timemaster clone called the DR SP30.
pretty simple to setup out-of-the-box add some oil insert the mulch plug or the bag and you're good to go

I like it okay but I had to put a clip on the blade engagement lever. It's in an awkward area and it's hard on your wrist if you don't have something to hold it down for you. Other than that it seems to be a pretty good machine

I’ve got about .75 acre yard, front yard is about .25 and flat, back yard is about .5 very steep hill, bit rough as well. I’m comparing between this mower and the Toro TimeMaster. With you having experience with both, which would you recommend for my yard situation? Mostly concerned about the steep hill in the back.

The DR has really good pull going uphill. The time Master is my go-to but its sixhundred dollars more so you just going to have to figure out if you want to spend the extra $600 or not

I also use Timemaster's. I bought one of these thinking it would be better. I didn't like anything about it. I could not sell it, I couldn't even give it away. I ended up taking it to the dump...b/c that's where it belonged.

I like it pretty well it runs fine! The only thing that I would say is you need to put a clip on the blade engagement lever because it's kind of hard on your hand to keep it depressed while you're mowing

For some reason DR/Generac seems to want to keep this a secret,but it is a Chongqing Rato Power Manufacturing Corporation RA225 (223cc) engine. (RATO). It isn't bad, per se, it's a widely-used Honda clone. But why not just be honest and up-front about it?

You were not set at your grass height, because that mower will vacuum up or mulch that tree bark.

The pulley control arm is installed in the wrong position. (You can see this in the video.) This is a major reason why the belts break so frequently...! This seems to be a consistent problem with this machine. DR makes this unit in two sizes. If you look at the left side of the mower deck, there are two holes; one marked with 26 and the other one marked 30. The control arm needs to be installed in the one marked 30 (for the 30" mower).

I see it at the 0:21 mark. I noticed it right away three years ago when I got my SP30, that the bolt is, for some reason, in the "26" hole and the "30" slot is unused. But The idler pulley/brake arm (which does have the number "30" stamped upon it) is so long, I was guessing that it would not fit in the "30" position; the arm would interfere with the pulley. Were able to successfully re-locate to the "30" mounting hole? Did you get a clarification from DR customer service on this matter? I just surmised that DR had committed a stamping error, and that the "26" and "30" were transposed on the deck.

OK I emailed Doug in Generac customer service. He says " I asked one of the guys who has been here for many many years and he told me that the older model SP30 pin went in to the "26" hole, no idea why...engineers." This, plus the fact that the idler arm is too long for it to fir in the "30" hole, means that for my SP30 at least, it MUST be in the "26" hole.
