In the summer, when its hot, i use the gas grill to season outside. It seems to be a little cleaner and easier to regulate. I had started using grape seed oil to season with and since, experimented with blackstone seasoning. So far i feel it does the best job and is the most durable. However I do not criticize anybody's choice, and since i used crico for years and swore by it. My daughter still does. People esed lard, tallow and bacon grease for many years and got along fine. Thats all my mother used when i was a yonker. I appreciate your channel.

Thanks for the seasoning tips with the grill. The smell not the smoke is what happens at my house. THANK YOU. John T.

As a kid growing up my parents always had two or three cast iron pans that they used almost every day. After I got older I asked my mother about seasoning her pans. She said those pans belonged to her mom and you don't need to season them. Cause I used them all the time. When I use them I put grease or oil in them to cook foods with as a result, they season themselves. She said to wash them after use, dry them very well, and just put oil in them the next time you use them. This seasoning deal is a waste of time. Do you agree or disagree with this? Cool video thumbs up.

Well. seasoning a well used pan would be a waste of time, but, this dutch oven only has the factory applied seasoning. This process gets the whole thing started.

I seen you fishing in the stream on forge creek! I was in the grey jeep that stop briefly and asked if you've had any luck. Didn't want to bother you so I didn't hang around.

Good tips but too much oil on the inside.

Which oil to season CI is like religion or politics... but flax seed oil has been found to flake off.
@BackwoodsGourmetChannel2 ай бұрын
It does make a good base layer. If you get it too hot, it will flake from the sides.

I like to use Crisco shortening or canola oil. I like to use an old cotton t-shirt to apply it. Great video, thanks!
@steveb8552 ай бұрын
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel if your base layer ("foundation") flakes off, it's going to bring all the layers on top of it off too.
@chrissewell16082 ай бұрын
Crisco always leaves a damn sticky residue. That can later go rancid, if the pot is stored for any length of time. And it always seemed to easily be applied to heavy. Which pooled up and would char. I stopped using it.

Any oil will become sticky if not heated past its smoke point for long enough when seasoning.
