Looking at the diagram for the PSXX/PSXX-AR setup at 20:30, I realized I've done the same with my Digitrax gear, substituting PM74 districts for the PSX zones, and an AR-1 for the PSXX-AR. This provides reversing through the AR-1, with underlying short protection with the PM74.

Larry, are you still using suitcase connectors now that you switched to speaker zip cord for the main bus? Thanks

Yes, they work on stranded wire too. You just have to,slice the two conductors apart using an Xacto blade.

I don’t see why not as long as you don’t exceed the maximum number of LEDs it would be the same as connecting them directly.

Hi Larry, thanks for the info on these new products. I'd like to make one suggestion regarding adjusting trim pots on any circuit board and that is to use a plastic screwdriver. With a board powered on, a metal screwdriver slipping into a live part of the circuit could damage the board. Small plastic screwdrivers for adjusting trim pots are available at most electronics stores. All the best and I'll look forward to your next video.

When adjusting the Pot on the "Legacy Lighting Control Board", Is there any change in voltage output of the incandescent side of the board. I assume there is no change in the incandescent output as there is no brightness change and that the trim pot only varies the LED voltage output.
@TheDCCGuy

It did change just not as much as with those high i tensity LEDs and with my lighting for the video it made it even harder to see.

Here’s a tip on how to use the internet. For DCC Concepts just enter that in your browser search box and it will come up. Same for Tonys Trains and Iron Planet Hobbies. Real simple and easy and no need to look it up in the description. PS-same thing for DCC Specialties.

Hi Larry, good luck with the personal stuff, hope it all works out. Great discussion on the AR board, but as I have said in the past, I really do not understand why folks rely on "letting" a short circuit occur before taking action like reversing polarity. I use PSX boards to manage my power districts and I love them. They make the layout secure from Accidental shorts. But for reversing loops, wyes and turn tables, I use a combination of a solid state switch that is controlled by two or four block detectors and a tiny program running on a baby Arduino. The Arduino and the sensors detect that a loco/train is approaching the loop and they switch the phase appropriately via the solid state switch. Very simple, very cost effective and, so far, very reliable with no deliberately induced short ccts. BTW, the software will, if there is a problem, switch off the power to the loop altogether.

Can you tell me, What is the total current consumption at 15 volts on DCC with 12 street lamps? (first part of video)
@TheDCCGuy
@TheDCCGuy Жыл бұрын
That depends on the current demands of the street lamps. Assuming you mean LEDs that I showed drawing about 10 milliamps each that would come to 120 millamps. Now if you have a 5 amp booster then 120mA is only a drop in the bucket (120/5000=2.5%). Compare 120mA for the 12 LEDs to say 200-500 mA for a single loco. So if you are only operating a few locos on your layout then you probably have a lot of excess power you are not using that could be put to lights. Or you could install a DC accessory bus and use that to power the LEDs. The circuit board gives you the flexibility of using either AC, DC or DCC without having to worry with dropping resistors and rectifiers, etc.
@SamBarr-cx5er
@SamBarr-cx5er Жыл бұрын
@@TheDCCGuy Sorry I should have made the question more clearer, How much total current would be drawn including the unit itself. if I used it on a DCC Digitrax system? Surely the the unit itself uses a certain amount of current.
@TheDCCGuy
@TheDCCGuy Жыл бұрын
Sam I figure the board consumption would be so low I could not measure it with my setup, probably about as much as a LED.

Larry, hope all is well and best wishes for your time off as you take care of other demands. You deserve a break and your loyal fans and followers will await your return. When you do get time, if you have an alternative source for electronic parts I see that All Electronics is going out of business. Many of us got their name and used them as a result of a mention by you I think years ago. Great supplier in my experience, great inventory and fast shipping, but unfortunately no more here soon. If you have another you'd recommend I suspect many of us would like to give them a try. Thanks and take care.

What is your experience with the PSXX devices and the Cobalt Digital iP turnout motors? There is an article on Tony's Trains that states, "Cobalt machines are not well designed". Cicuitron has a comparison article on their site where they talk negatively about DCC Concepts. As a representative of both DCC Concepts and DCC Specialties, can you get to the bottom of the issues, if there actually are any? Is this just one company trying to speak badly of their competition, or are there really issues?
@TheDCCGuy

Watch video 307 & 312, I addressed this issue there. Turned out it was a problem with the PSXX not the iP Digitals!

Great episode! Unrelated question though. I need some help. Referring to a Rapido RS-11 which LokPilot(no sound DCC) do I go with using an NCE PowerCab, the NEM660 or MKL? I am so confused between the two versions. The manual says to use a LocPilot version 4, but going with version 5 as they are more readily available, it comes in either NEM660 or MKL. Does it matter? I put an email into Rapido and ESU with no response yet. thank you
