I know it’s a slim chance…. But you are so right with roustabout… nobody would have guessed there was another version. Yes there were reasons for that other recording with Hal not liking the song!!! But…. Why can’t this be the case for this one?? Eeekkk it would be the find of all finds. Let’s hope RCA dig deep! What a great find it would be!!!! Great video xxx

How could "Smokey Mountain Boy" have originally been written for DOUBLE TROUBLE, a movie that came out three years AFTER 1964's KISSIN' COUSINS...?

Ben Wiseman once said and i have this Elvis recorded many songs that were never released different versions of the same title did studio sessions that were never documented in a uk the man and his music mag
@robertmorra86032 жыл бұрын
Possibly he never recorded this version if he chose the released version. Elvis did not record vocals on every demo he was given.

The same was said for Roustabout 25 years ago. Let’s hope RCA digs deeper!

This is a great find! RCA would hire several different sets of writers to write songs with the same name for possible use in Elvis's upcoming movie he would be filming... such as the mentioned Roustabout... but also from the same movie was 2 completely different versions of Poison Ivy League.. Elvis chose the one we hear in the movie, the other version was subsequently recorded in '64 by Ral Donner for his new single on the Fontana label..... great song! Keep up the good work and keep on rockin Jon!!!!!!!😎

That note on the label of “Smokey Mountain Boy” is in correct, as “Double Trouble” was filmed 3 years after “Kissin’ Cousins”. It must have been written later by someone who didn’t do their homework.

@@TheEPBlvdPawnShopJonDaly For every musical scene in a movie they commissioned songwriters to provide dedicated songs. From which Elvis would pick one to record. So there are many leftovers. Rarely would Elvis select and record two songs with the same title like Kissin Cousins. Nobody would pay for recording sessions with Elvis Presley to record something that was not meant to be used. Roustabout is a different situation because Hal Wallis didn’t like the title song that was first recorded. So Elvis re-recorded the other Roustabout by Giant Baum Kaye. However Otis Blackwell insisted that his song had also been recorded. That could only be proven when an acetate turned up that was kept by Winfield Scott, because the sessions tapes for Roustabout are essentially lost. However for Viva Las Vegas the set of sessions tapes is complete. There were songs there that were not released at the time (among them all the duets), but no Viva Las Vegas. Most everything is documented regarding these productions by now.

@@TheEPBlvdPawnShopJonDaly I think we are both right. The opening song on Live A Little Love A Little was Wonderful World. The song lyrics was rewritten for Elvis and this movie. It was a Cliff Richard song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gomnlGenfcZ-ZpI

The are a few great exceptions. But in general the Elvis movie songs were awful beyond understanding. Humiliating. And really hurt the King’s career.
