Geoff's getting very creative. walking backwards, talking to himself on the stairs - Great Stuff
@Ruscombephotos2 жыл бұрын
Very creative with talking to yourself on the stairs. I’m no videographer, but I’m guessing good editing software makes that possible. If only Ealing Studios and Alec Guinness had that when they shot Kind Hearts and Coronets; it would have made the scene where all seven characters played by Sir Alec appear on screen simultaneously much easier. As it was, it was a technical marvel at the time. I had never heard of Imperial Wharf.

Love this content! Still my favourite. Portraits of stations or (more general) Transit Passenger Infrastructure. And not only of the Underground of course, but all of the TfL / London Railway Transportation realm. And how fitting that this was funded by the DfT as it is the Overground, which is part of the NR system (as is Cross TfL ElizzaRail of course).

This video could have easily been a few shots of the stations with a few descriptions, but it is clear that each shot is carefully considered, the sound is well mixed and edited, and technically simple but well executed visual effects add to an already polished film. About time that TFL updated its "Avoiding Stairs" tube map for new lift openings, the Elizabeth Line and the Overground. Including the Thameslink would also be good. They could also remedy the omission of the cross-platform interchange at Finsbury Park and include the GN electrics at Highbury & Islington. For some inexplicable reason, the new tube map shows the Cambridge Line of the Thameslink (rather than the GN line) and the stations at New Southgate, Oakleigh Park and New Barnet, when the Thameslink doesn't stop there most of the day even though GN does. It also shows the Charing Cross Branch of the Northern Line as the connector to the Victoria Line, when it should be the Bank branch Truth be told, disabled access on mapping and station signage needs a bottom up change. I have been looking , this week at central London interchanges by visiting them, and most are unfit for people who have difficulty walking long distances, or people with luggage. In many cases more than one lift is needed and the signage between them is non existent. On the other hand, the obsession with completely level access to the train (as in the "Step Free" tube map) and the ignoring of huge distances on the flat appears to be a huge omission by TFL. The reference to distances on tube maps is selective and inconsistent. Many of the stations are really separate rather than interchanges. Harry Beck needs to unsolder all his joins. As for the hash they made at the lift interchange at Custom House by increasing the walking distance by over 1000% by putting a one-way gate line in the way; it is inexplicable. National Rail, as well as TFL have a blind spot for signage. Try and find platforms 10a, 11 and 12 at Stratford and then when you have found the stairs, try and find the lift access. Stratford is an awful interchange. I hope that once the Elizabeth Line goes through in November that mapping can show the cross-platform interchange between Elizabeth and Central lines as well as the DLR on platform 3a. The current connections between Central and Elizabeth lines at Liveropool Street and Tottenham Court Road are ridiculous. I assume that most National Rail station improvements are funded by the Government rather than TFL. I think that the only part of the Overground owned by TFL is the East London Line.

Can you do an episode on the London necropolis railway. Tom Scott did it but didn't show much just a description. I bet you could get more access to where it ran and all its stops maybe even find an old train that ran the line even if it's just a museum piece. 1st 2nd and 3rd class funerals were run on the line and so much more right there in London. I'd love to see more

I always think London Marylebone could do with a second entrance on Rossmore Road. It would free up congestion on the main concourse, and could be constructed quite easily with a concourse sitting above tracks of platforms 2-5 with a gateline level with the street and stairs and lifts down to the platforms.

Unrelated question to the video. I went to London last weekend and I noticed where we stayed Piccadilly trains ran through district line stations near Hammersmith but my question is why don’t Piccadilly line trains stop at all stations along that way when they have platforms to do so ?
@cjayos76542 жыл бұрын
Stamford Brook, Turnham Green and Chiswick Park have Piccadilly line platforms for early morning and late night trains. Piccadilly line trains can stop if there are works on the District tracks. Otherwise on this stretch of the network the infrastructure allows the District line to act as a local service while Piccadilly can use the fast inner tracks, which help get people to the airport promptly. There may be some reconfiguration of this arrangement in future with regards to Chiswick park, once much needed new trains are placed on the Piccadilly line.
