The sound D.O. has produced as a soloist is not what I was expecting before his first album dropped. He’s best known for how well his voice suits R&B and I just assumed he would lean heavily in that direction. But this acoustic sound is the music he loves and I’m so glad he’s chosen it. With a pared back melody like this you can hear every nuance of his unique voice. I love listening to his first album and I can’t wait to hear what else he has in store for us. I expect it will be another beautiful no skip, no matter what genre(s) it is.

Love I Do, perfect, sweet little pre-release. Sounds deceptively simple, but you can feel the emotion in his voice. D.O. messaged on bubble app today saying how he hopes we can feel calmer and happier when listening to the song, and I can definitely say, I Do! The Title track MV and the rest of his 2nd mini album will be out on September 18! This ‘I Do’ MV is a continuation of the MV for his super popular single That’s Okay, which he dropped just before enlisting in the military in 2019. That’s Okay was dubbed South Korea’s “nations healing song” and has been covered, mentioned, and shared by over a hundred idols and korean celebs, even to this year. It was even recommended by the national mental health campaign and various mental health centers in playlists for healing songs… if you’re not aware, South Korea has unbelievable societal pressure to do well in school and the workplace… they spend the most amount of money in after school study programs and tutoring just to get into the best universities. They even ban certain kpop songs with extremely catchy and repetitive lyrics from being played during exam weeks! Because the repetitive lyrics can create that “ear worm” and be a distraction to studying. Pkease check out D.O.’s first mini album Empathy. While it is laid back for the most part, the emotion in his voice and the range in his voice and the type of songs in the album is actually amazing. Thanks for the Exo love!

do not expect high belting notes from D.O... he is always in charge with low to midrange vocals in Exo, insane runs and adlibs of all exo songs. and his vocals are so stable and R&B ish. Dont forget he is main vocalist of exo too, apart from chen amd baekhyun. but good vocalists doesnt always need belting high notes

Laid back vibes and gorgeous vocals have been the hallmarks of D.O’s solos so far. We’ll see what the rest of the album brings us as we know he is capable of pretty much any style and genre. But so far I kinda dig that he’s favoured a calmer more soothing vibe for his solos. He is my go to when I am upset or feeling fragile because his voice is like being wrapped in a warm blanket.

Kyungsoo does tend to prefer this softer acoustic vibe for his solo work. His first album, Empathy, is pretty much in a similar vein, and IMO a no-skip album. His voice is very comforting and soothing, and there's definitely a reason why his pre-military track "That's Okay" is considered the "Nation's healing song". Not only did that song do a lot to help get people through the pandemic, but I found myself coming back to it when my mom became ill and subsequently passed away at the beginning of the year.

I agree that D.O. makes the songs appear simple & easy to sing through his deceptively effortless singing! That only comes from years of training & practice. There's a certain 'zing' in his voice that makes the same song sound very different when he sings it. Like lemon zest, it enhances the overall flavor of a song. Also, his songs become better & better after every play as we notice the various nuances. Such a gifted & mature artist. Looking forward to his upcoming album!
